jeezz, what an idiotic argument who cares what it is spit or saliva or condensed water from breathing listen to the awesome music performed with skill and taste
@chillster66 Sorry mate, but that is not a Bb-trumpet, it is a C or something. 'Cause I played with her in the same tune, but the valve use was different! :D
@chillster66 its definetly an e flat as i have just spent the last hour working on this and can clearly see the same fingerings....... she plays both amazingly though .....
It's both actually. Warm air through a cold trumpet will give you condensation. Those of us who have spent hours on a hot football field or parking lot know that the only liquid that you're producing then is coming from the other side of the lips. The only thing I can say with absolute certainty is that Maurice Andre has more talent in his spit than I do in my entire body :-)
Played with such ease on a C trumpet - perhaps it's a favourite of hers - but Isn't it easier to play on an Eb trumpet? However it was beautifully played.
@B17MIKE I had to give you a thumbs up. Still: Moisture from the player's breath might sound like a finer word for spit, but it's not. The simple reason for the breath holding water is that the breath is "warm" air, and the warmer the air is the more water it holds. When the air is cooled down by the colder trumpet, it cannot hold as much moisture and some of the water (not spit) is released.
As for the video: Excellent performance of a great piece!
No other Professional Trumpeter who have done that by raising the bell of the Trumpet just to get rid of saliva infront of the public. Wynton Marsalis used different kinds of Trumpet and even Arturo Sandoval never tried that way. There's no such thing a condensed moisture coz everything that comes from the mouth is a saliva not a juice hahahahah!

@Requintto A person's breath is moist and it goes through a cooler piece of metal tubing. This causes the gaseous moisture in the breath to turn to a liquid. A) You must have failed High School Physical Science, and B) You are obviously not a brass musician and definitely not a trumpet player, or you would already know this.
Regarding the releasing of the water from the trumpet, it's important to realize that she's playing a D/E flat trumpet, which has no main slide and therefore only one water key.
As a trumpet player myself, I can only dream of playing with an orchestra of that size and talent. Well done, you're an inspriation to all who look apon your performance.

Please Alison if you try to get rid your saliva inside your trumpet kindly do it in a more discreet way and Not to show it deliberately to a great Audience by raising the bell of your trumpet.
The liquid that acumulates in a brass instrument is not saliva, but simply condensed moisture from the player's breath. It must be cleared periodically throughout a performance, and great audiences know this. I'm sure no one was offended.
As a trumpet player of 20 years, I'll say that a bit of it is certainly saliva. Through long periods of such playing, a LOT of moisture, and yes, a little saliva, gets into the instrument. It's just unavoidable. I'll also say that I played this piece in its entirety (all three movements) for an audition about twelve years ago, and while it's a challenging piece, it's simply a joy to play through, and simply beautiful.

It's a Bb trumpet, having played this a lot of times, the valve use is the same as I use on my Bb, as much as I can see anyway......

I play currently, and it is both Saliva and Condensation. Either way both are correct.

Calling it condensation instead of spit is like saying she's glowing instead of sweating.

That was beautiful. The third movement was just wonderful. The conductor starts to have a little fun up there also!

@acogaddicted The spit is what I like about trumpet playing. It makes you feel human, visceral and real.
kixmet 8 months ago
@Tim2723 this makes no sense, it's literally saliva. If it's "moisture from the players breath" I'd like to know how that's different from saliva
iamblue337 4 months ago
I think they focused more on the playing than some spit.
