Glad you enjoyed this one - it's kind of a classic trip that anyone who has gone to the beach from Santa Clarita has probably taken at one time of another. Cheers! :-)
That road's changed a lot since then... it's four lanes pretty much all the way now. I remember when it used to be called the "suicide highway" bacause of all the head-on collisions in that 3rd center passing lane. Had a few close calls myself. :-O Ah yes... those were the days!
Ahhh yes, those were the days! It used to be quite the adventure going to the beach that way. Remember the "suicide lane" down the middle? - weekly head-on collisions from people passng in opposite directions... one of the state's most deadly roads.
I did one of these on a drive from Visalia to Morro Bay, CA, about 2.5 hours. I shelved the video because an ugly crack in my wife's window was right in them middle of the frame. hehe
OMG, you're not the only person I thought would do something like this, with a very similar title, I just made one, and it was while we were going to the beach, this video was related to mine too, so I'm going to do a video response to you :D
Hahahaha If you know that Imp line "shoot me" then you definitely played my JCM levels! It's cool to hear from somone who remembers those. Every now and then, I break out zDOOM and play them through just to re-live those days. Ah yes... good times! XD
omg!! i think ive driven that same route about 500 times XD soo funny to see it going by so fast, usually about 5 seconds into the movie im about to die of boredum! super cool!
Not sure why but it seems like this is one of the most boring drives unless you speed it up like this! I'd go to the beach a lot more if it were this quick :D Thanks for the view and comment :-)
Ya know, that's a really question! How fast WOULD you actually be going? OK then.. the math: The trip as shown took 72 minutes, or 1.2 hours to go 48 miles. 48miles x 1 hour / 1.2 hours = about 40mph avg, including stops and slow "in-town" traffic.
The video did it in 1.5 minutes, or .025 hours. So, 48miles x 1 hour / .025 hours = 1920mph... Holy crap Batman! I wish my car really DID go that fast! Hahahaha XD
Hypnotizing, isn't it? :D I use a mini-DV camcorder (JVC), then snag frames with DVAnimator+. You can also use a digital still camera in continuous shooting mode (if it has one) to get a series of frames. The processing afterwards is where the real time and effort comes in. Each sequence ca take hours to build. Ya gotta love it! Thanks for watching :D
Hahaha XD yea, newer cards sound "nicer", but there's something about those Adlib FM chips. After all, as low-end as they may have been, they were still unique instruments which sounded like nothing else. Fortunately, FM/OPL synth emulators can sometimes still play those vintage video game soundtracks with the old school stuff.
I had to use the FM chip emulator in zDOOM to get this soundtrack. A little post-production tweaking added stereo and echo effects. Thanks for watching!
There was a Carl's Jr and Micky-D's right on that same street, but I'm glad you spotted the Taco Bell. They're going to take over the world one day. I saw it in a movie! Hahahaha XD Thanks for watching!
It's a much better drive now... did you ever drive it back in the 1970s? It was widely known as "The Suicide Highway" - the Highway Patrol's pet example of CA's most dangerous roads, complete with "don't speed" TV ads.
Right down the middle of the road (in many places) was a third lane, known as the "suicide lane", for traffic passing in BOTH directions! High-speed head-on collisions were common.
Anyway, Ventura beach/pier is great, fun fishing & no license needed! :D Cheers!
Yea, it was a lucky trip. Cops everywhere, most of the drivers half asleep or driving slow in the fast lane - and still, no crashes at all! I even made it through Santa Clarita without a door ding. Amazing! :)
your lucky. i live out thier and it is a huge shit hole for anyone who lived hear befor all the construction and destruction. They basicly gutted our city so they could turn it in to a selling monutment. Santa clarita is a huge showcase now. and anyone who didnt live their 10 years agao doesnt belong their now. Especialy the VALENCIA area. letalone snta clarita in general

I'd love to live in that Simi/San Fernando or Ventura area. I hate living in the Inland Empire.
I've been on that highway twice:
1st time - westbound when I was 8 years old.
2nd time - eastbound 2 years ago when I was 24.
