I'll always love this priceless Tamla Motown cut. Check out 'Truly Yours' which is another Spinners' gem from the mid 1960s. Bobby Smith and the Spinners really deserved more first division material when they were recording in Detroit.
being there was great , for those that were not it doesnt mean you cant love it .... if you werent there , pfft , stuck up little shits . ktf minotauroazul
I like this song very much, even though I never knew there was a kind of soul called Northern Soul, this is the Motown R&B sound of the early years, the best years in my opinion. Thank you.-
@minotauroazul Northern Soul is a phenomenon that cannot be described unless you have lived the dream! If you have been there then you will fully understand this text. If not then I'm sorry to have wasted 10 seconds of your life!!
@mixastompin I live in Argentina, I´ve been in England in late 90s, not in the Northern Soul time. It´s a dream, as you say, that I cannot share with you and others. anyway I don´t think I´ve wasted seconds of my life listening to this music, maybe I cannot have the Northern soul dream as I never had and I will never have that experience but I can appreciate good music and enjoy it. I´m always curious about music styles that I enjoy, even tiose that were fashionable before I was born. Thank you
Look on one of the Atlantic label SPINNERS album..and discover how AMAZING a sound is...called I CAN NEVER REPAY YOUR LOVE...please find this sooo great tune..drop it here! thanks.
Saw these guys live in the 70s in Baltimore....bad, bad....whole orchestra, led by the capable Mr. King....and Soul Wynn going out of his mind.....as for this song, I heard in a blue way because I was headed to Nam and the girl I'd been dating wrote me a dearJohn letter, with red baloons cand cotten candy in the close....Xinh Loi...my love to her anyway., Peace

@the6tssoulman I also loved to listen to this at the "wheel" and I still have a copy of this track by The Spinners, and yes it was then deleted for that reason.all the susequent copies were renamed The Detroit Spinners
I also have a copy of "Its a shame" by the Motown Spinners !!! all very confusing.why do they keep changing their name ?
awesome tune.

Big Bobby Smith on lead vocals!
The most underrated Soul singer of
this era, complained little, sang a bunch!
Bobby Sr, if you read this, I simply say
your the greatest.
joshiejjones07 2 years ago 20
@joshiejjones07 ....and Bobby Sr, you've got my vote, too!
Hey Soultime, nice channel! Thanks, Jan
jmohan23 1 year ago
@jmohan23
You agree too!!?!?!
Big Bobby was always that SPECIAL voice that few outside
of the music biz ever heard of, very talented and precise
studio session lead singer and great showman.
I've watched him for 4 decades now, he and Henry Fambrough
are Soul Music treasures.
Bobby Jr tours with the band and is a bad-ass musician himself!
Pleasure.

discoverd by BRIAN RAE during his days at the twisted wheel...
but for BRIAN,s PERSEVERANCE WITH THIS GEM IT COULD WELL HAVE BEEN ONE OF THOSE MOTOWN GEMS NEVER TO BE HEARD ,
BECAUSE UK MOTOWN HAD TO WITHDRAW THIS TRACK BECAUSE OF COPYRIGHT ON THE NAME
"THE SPINNERS"
there was a uk band using that name....
for years BRIAN was the only dj who had this track ,it was he who made it into the "northern classic" record it is today
