Note the portraits for the Witch of Walpurgis and Rasputin at the 2:43 mark. Both were discarded concepts for the Changing Portraits, but the Witch would survive and become one of the Staring Portraits at WDW's Mansion. After the 2007 refurb, her portrait is now in the Doombuggy loading area. The Tokyo Mansion still uses the Staring Portraits in their Mansion. :)
Disney Should not stop fun!! AND NEVER CLOSE! THUMBS UP! IF U LOVE DISNEY DIsney is the best! for kids! and adults! And mostly dreams do come true :) Non-Stop fun! :D And I want to say thank you to the people that made the rides, entertainment, and helped and the person that made Disney come to life! :) and mickey's imagination ;) And thank you for the people that works at disney to make kids happy not sad :) and we should be glad disney was here :)
i dont know bout youu, but i personally think Walt Disney was a very smart man ! i mean, in the 60s he made this with all these special effects and stuff. it looks very realistic then and still to this day it looks realistic. i just cannot believe he created this fantastic ride in the 60s ! and the jack skelington idea was great ! walt disney will be remembered for a long time because of his wonderful disney creations and his many creative illusions in those creations !
@AmandaNaqy I know! My family always wonders what he would have done had he not died so young! Could you imagine what Walt would be doing today? I'm almost positive that he would have an attraction on the moon by now! :)
Love this ride! I wish they would make hotel room much (much like the one in the top of Cinderella's Castle) and have contests to allow some guests to "spend a night in the Mansion." It would be creepy, but super fun. :)
18 century "N'awlins" when people were still arriving from Countries Like Brittan Scotland France. Everyone was just getting used to our Bland Way of Speaking. Hahahahah,
This is the 40th anniversary year 2009 and haunted mansion holiday got a better upgrade. Those who never ride it you will like it. I'm a deluxe passholder it is creepy and fantastic.
Ha, I love how this was posted on my birthday... Love the ride, but I wish the bride character wasn't changed from being pitiable to practically evil just to make story connections... Even if one of them leads to the Hatbox Ghost, which I'd love to see.
The ride has always looked like it takes place in a real house, like someone actually lived there at one time;as you ride, you cannot help but wonder about the rest of the house---the doors you DON'T go through, the hallways you DON'T travel through, the rooms you DON'T visit.
@ctdsnark Well the actual attraction is based in a warehouse behind the house. Guests never see it because its cleverly hidden and painted the same colors as the trees. The attraction itself is one big illusion inside too. I work at WDW so ours is a bit different than DLR. About a month ago we took a backstage tour of the Haunted Mansion. It was AMAZING to see the tricks and techniques they used to fool the audience. Classic ride :D
in king kong the themepark there they are making one but it has a diffrent name and a diffrent setting the house is cursed and everything comes to life like vodoo
fat21s: The official D23 channel has a pretty cool video on it, "Hong Kong Disneyland's Mystic Manor Revealed." ....I'm not sure there's a, um, King Kong, China, though ;)
Amazing how I still recognize/remember all these details. I haven't been to DL in... Well, let's just say slightly less than 40 years. My favorite things were the portrait of the Cat Lady (I was heavily into puberty at the time), and the "Hurry baaa-aaack!" girl right at the end, by the escalator.
I wish they'd update & bring back Journey Through Inner Space, though. That one blew my mind.
omg i went here 5 weeks ago. i still cry because i miss this and my disney. i know im 18 and act like a baby but im emotional. its not my fault. i just miss disney. and my parents have a hard time with disney. i wish it was free. i cry everyday since i miss it.... :(
when i win the lottery i am so building a replica Haunted Mansion facade house to live in!
And yeah the Hong Kong version is basically just the normal mansion but it was owned by an explorer who collects Weird things, like the artifacts in the Hightower Hotel at Disneysea, BUT instead of being on a track they're on this weird magnetic invisble track like the Winnie The Pooh ride in Tokyo, so that'll be fun. Plus there's naughty ghost monkeys! Everyone can enjoy that.
Dose Anyone Know About The New Haunted Mansion That Is Going To Be Built At The Hong Kong Disneyland With A Storyline Which Will Be Like Tower Of Terror At Tokyo Disney Sea!
Mystic Manor, something like "a mischevious monkey sets of an enchanted music box that causes chaos." Not much is known on if it's gonna be anything like HM or Phantom Manor.
Happy Birthday! It is hard to believe the Haunted Mansion has been entertaining guests for 40 years now. This is one of Sally Corporation's favorite all-time dark rides and has been a big influence on the rides we have created for 32 years now. Congratulations Walt!
Hey. Epcot+Hollywood Studios+Animal Kingdom beats DCA any day. Liberty Square was were EVERYONE needed to be back during the bicentennial of the United States. And the Magic Kingdom happens to be the most attended theme park on this planet. Just saying. ;) It's kind of fun to argue over that.
But, yeah, Walt didn't want anything to look so terrible in HIS Disneyland. However, Phantom Manor and Tokyo's Haunted Mansion both are all dilapidated.
I always feel like the Grim Grinning Ghosts are watching me whenever I go on this ride. O_o;; The longest I've waited in line for this was 10 minutes, no FastPass, last month. The shortest time was 30 seconds, on a Thursday in May.
The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride, and I can't believe how well the Imagineers thought up all the great stuff that goes on inside! It truly is the most magical ride the Imagineers have ever created.
I am a LONG TIME Disneyland fan, and I have to say, I'm not a fan of the "Nightmare before Christmas" version of the Haunted Mansion that's up during the holidays. I went on that version and I was bored to tears. It's just waaaay too campy and not enough creepy, and I think that the original had just the right amount of camp and creepy. I really wish they'd keep the original up year round. Ahh to dream.
the nightmare before christmas version was probably my happiest experiance in disneyland. i went last year, i was 17, OBSESSED with nightmare (still am) and practically cried with joy. talk about recreating the movie! they should make it that way 365.
Please, can anybody tell me where I can find the haunted mansion record and book with ron howard and robie lester on CD. The original record had the classic painting you see on the latest issue of Disney's Twenty-Three Magazine. The painting still today get's my imagination stirring.
I hope to see it in person again someday and that when I volenteer to be ghost 1000 they will accept.
Happy Birthday Haunted mansion 40 years of thrills and hope that Hatbox Ghost Makes his first aperence in the 40 years hes ben absent for shows but present for artists.
Grrr. The singing busts shown are from the Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris. Not cool. Also not cool? Haunted Mansion Holiday. Can we just have our regular Mansion year-round, please?
I LOVE THAT RIDE!!!! DEFINETLY A FAVORITE! it has the coolest effects! i was just there over easter break and we were getting ready to leave but i said we have to go on it before we leave!
I love it...am I the only one that even though I'm 22 and have been on that ride tons of times I still get creeped out whenever I through the halls before you get to the streatching room...
Great but where is the Hatbox Ghost?

It depends what Park you're in. Disneyland's (CA) is an elevator. WDW's (FL) has the walls going up.

Still one of the best rides. Great storytelling. Both, regular version and holidays version.

Grrr. The singing busts shown are from the Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris. Not cool. Also not cool? Haunted Mansion Holiday. Can we just have our regular Mansion year-round, please?
