  • Great but where is the Hatbox Ghost?

  • who's that at 1:09 - 1:11?

  • I'd substitute as the organist on this ride any day.

  • I have the Haunted Mansion: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies book and all this was in it

  • I wonder the people who work there at night when its not open get kinda scared of it just wondering!!

  • "A ghost is playing, sure" LOL Walt Disney had alittle comedy in him

  • I. Like this ride two. The first time I rode it is scarred me to death though jdjullie

  • I Love this Ride ! What really adds to the experience is the Ghost Host Narration by the Late Great Paul Frees.

  • what's the shadow at 3:28?the phantom or the broom?can anyone help me?

  • @MultiSonic4ever I think that's in the attic scene. The shadow would be the ghost playing as ghostly wedding march for the bride.

  • @NatashaDumbeldore ok.thanks!

  • @MultiSonic4ever anytime

  • I like that ride and the Holiday version of it ^_^

  • My most recent entry and escape from Gracey Manor was when Jack took control of the holiday festivities last December

  • The Haunted Mansion is, and will always be, THE classic and definitive haunted house attraction!

  • I heard a rumor that one of the many portraits in ride looks like Eddie, the Iron Maiden mascot. I've never found that one, though...

  • @dolphin873 Funny, when I went to Disney World back in May 1986, I didn't think the HM exterior looked that sinister in comparison with Disneyland's.

  • Note the portraits for the Witch of Walpurgis and Rasputin at the 2:43 mark. Both were discarded concepts for the Changing Portraits, but the Witch would survive and become one of the Staring Portraits at WDW's Mansion. After the 2007 refurb, her portrait is now in the Doombuggy loading area. The Tokyo Mansion still uses the Staring Portraits in their Mansion. :)

  • I find it amazing how my love of HM came from me being scared of it

  • I used to be scared to the death of this ride when I was little. Seriously, I would not go near it! But now that I'm older, I adore it!

  • I LOVE the dining room Scene its Sooo awsome. This is By far my fave ride in the park this and POTC and splash mountian lol cant forget that.

  • Disney Should not stop fun!! AND NEVER CLOSE! THUMBS UP! IF U LOVE DISNEY DIsney is the best! for kids! and adults! And mostly dreams do come true :) Non-Stop fun! :D And I want to say thank you to the people that made the rides, entertainment, and helped and the person that made Disney come to life! :) and mickey's imagination ;) And thank you for the people that works at disney to make kids happy not sad :) and we should be glad disney was here :)

  • This has been my FAVORITE ride ever since I first rode it WHEN I WAS 5!!!!

I can quote the ride narration word for word! haha!

  • the Haunted Mansion is the best ride ever it will be so cool if they did the Nightmare Before Chirstmas at Disney World

  • Walt was a unique brand of genius!

  • I can't believe they created a video about The Haunted Mansion and nowhere do they show or mention Maynards evil twin.

  • It's nice to see Disney hasn't forgotten about the old rides like ATIS. Please consider bringing them back. (thumbs up 4 Peppers Ghost Effects!)

  • like!

  • Easily one of my Top 5 Disneyland rides. Have loved it since I was a kid.

  • The Haunted Mansion rocks.

  • i want to go there so much..the viedos are making me want to go ^^

  • i dont know bout youu, but i personally think Walt Disney was a very smart man ! i mean, in the 60s he made this with all these special effects and stuff. it looks very realistic then and still to this day it looks realistic. i just cannot believe he created this fantastic ride in the 60s ! and the jack skelington idea was great ! walt disney will be remembered for a long time because of his wonderful disney creations and his many creative illusions in those creations !

  • @AmandaNaqy I know! My family always wonders what he would have done had he not died so young! Could you imagine what Walt would be doing today? I'm almost positive that he would have an attraction on the moon by now! :)

  • I got to know Rolly Crump and it was amazing the stories he had of the museum of the weird!

  • I love the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. :-)

  • omg at 1:17 the chick looks just like harper off of wizards of waverly place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • disneys haunted hosue is WAY spookier and WAY bigger and better

  • Love this ride! I wish they would make hotel room much (much like the one in the top of Cinderella's Castle) and have contests to allow some guests to "spend a night in the Mansion." It would be creepy, but super fun. :)

  • i soooooooooo love this ride! its my fave!

  • The greatest ride EVER!!

  • i like disney world's haunted mansion better

  • from the outside, the mansion at disney world is alot scarier i think. this one looks too...nice.

  • Please fill in all the dead space and every dark corner.

  • I always wondered how the stretching room works?

is it an elevator which takes you down?

does the walls go up and you stay on the ground?

  • It depends what Park you're in. Disneyland's (CA) is an elevator. WDW's (FL) has the walls going up.

  • no the worst part is when the employes stand right behind you and scream.. made me shudder

  • Why does the butler do a bad British accent? Isn't the house located in N'awlins?

  • 18 century "N'awlins" when people were still arriving from Countries Like Brittan Scotland France. Everyone was just getting used to our Bland Way of Speaking. Hahahahah,

  • ooh i wanna go inside that house! 8D

  • WALT DISNEY WAS A GENIUS! :)

  • NO! he IS. Still. look at what he paved and is still being Worked on to this day. his world This Land Will never Be Finished.

  • This is the 40th anniversary year 2009 and haunted mansion holiday got a better upgrade. Those who never ride it you will like it. I'm a deluxe passholder it is creepy and fantastic.

  • did they talk about the i do, i do, i do, i do ha ha ha ha ha ha ha on the ride?

  • the hatbox ghost is returning this year

  • I loved that ride so much... I think I'm gonna convince my parents 2 take me there this summer... I LOVED IT!

  • God rest Walt. His gifts have gave us many years of fun. Thank you Disney Family.

  • couldn't have said it better myself, mrdjjames

  • Ha, I love how this was posted on my birthday... Love the ride, but I wish the bride character wasn't changed from being pitiable to practically evil just to make story connections... Even if one of them leads to the Hatbox Ghost, which I'd love to see.

  • Happy Anniversary to all Grim Grinning Ghosts.

  • Happy B Day Haunted Mansion! XD

btw, I remember seeing Maynor (an awesome MC at DL) and getting freaked out

  • Last time I was in the Haunted Mansion my ride stopped and I was stuck in front of the singing heads.

  • me to

  • i think its supposed to do that cuz ive rode it like 3 times and it always happened

  • Some things turned off. I would hear the voices but not see the faces.

  • I love this ride but i didnt get to the park after they updated it so i havent been on the new part yet, i hope i go soon to ride it though!!!

  • 40 years? WOW

  • The ride has always looked like it takes place in a real house, like someone actually lived there at one time;as you ride, you cannot help but wonder about the rest of the house---the doors you DON'T go through, the hallways you DON'T travel through, the rooms you DON'T visit.

What would you find in there?!?

  • probably all the computers and mechanical stuff programming the animetronics

  • @ctdsnark Well the actual attraction is based in a warehouse behind the house. Guests never see it because its cleverly hidden and painted the same colors as the trees. The attraction itself is one big illusion inside too. I work at WDW so ours is a bit different than DLR. About a month ago we took a backstage tour of the Haunted Mansion. It was AMAZING to see the tricks and techniques they used to fool the audience. Classic ride :D

  • @ctdsnark A ghost in the nude?

  • @iknownothing34 If you want to see THAT,you'll have to ride Horror House at Jin Jiang Action Park in China.

......OR you could just watch the video of it.

  • @ctdsnark Heh...no thanks.

  • There should be a Disneyland in Australia. That would be cool!

  • Long Live the Haunted Mansion! It's one of my favorite rides!

  • when i went to disney in august, i rode the haunted mansion 10 times and 5 were in one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is such an amazing ride. Though I've only been to the one in Disney World. It was so lifelike an scary!

  • I like the new room they added. All those stairs remind me of a painting I saw.

I heard the Disneyland haunted Mansion doesn't have it.

  • yeah the M.C. Escher stairs painting

  • That's it. I think I still have a picture of it.

  • Yeah. florda has twice as many scenes... I think.

  • I went to Disney world and all the Magic kingdom rides were shorter than the ones in California. I love Disneyland more than I do Disney world

  • thats so cool. Are there talks of a 5th theme park that disney workers are creating? If so what could it be?

  • in king kong the themepark there they are making one but it has a diffrent name and a diffrent setting the house is cursed and everything comes to life like vodoo

  • I would really love to see them make that more in line with Rolly Crump's vision of the Museum of the Weird that ultimately got cut from Disneyland

  • fat21s: The official D23 channel has a pretty cool video on it, "Hong Kong Disneyland's Mystic Manor Revealed." ....I'm not sure there's a, um, King Kong, China, though ;)

  • @229095 It's Hong Kong, not King Kong. The latter's at Universal Studios.

  • soo cool : )

  • i love the nightmare before xmas idea on the haunted mansion

  • i wanna! i wanna! i wanna!

  • Amazing how I still recognize/remember all these details. I haven't been to DL in... Well, let's just say slightly less than 40 years. My favorite things were the portrait of the Cat Lady (I was heavily into puberty at the time), and the "Hurry baaa-aaack!" girl right at the end, by the escalator.

I wish they'd update & bring back Journey Through Inner Space, though. That one blew my mind.

  • And Main Street Haunted Hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland is a walk-through!

  • omg i went here 5 weeks ago. i still cry because i miss this and my disney. i know im 18 and act like a baby but im emotional. its not my fault. i just miss disney. and my parents have a hard time with disney. i wish it was free. i cry everyday since i miss it.... :(

  • so sad

  • i know! but soon ill be getting a job and than ill go on my own ! yay me!!!!! haha!!! but right now... :(

  • Much respect.

    A personal favorite.

  • the shag merchandise released for the haunted mansion 40th anniv was amazing! :)

  • Yep yep yep. One day I gotta get to DLR and see it. They cram so much good stuff into a smaller area.

  • when i win the lottery i am so building a replica Haunted Mansion facade house to live in!

And yeah the Hong Kong version is basically just the normal mansion but it was owned by an explorer who collects Weird things, like the artifacts in the Hightower Hotel at Disneysea, BUT instead of being on a track they're on this weird magnetic invisble track like the Winnie The Pooh ride in Tokyo, so that'll be fun. Plus there's naughty ghost monkeys! Everyone can enjoy that.

  • Happy Birthday from Italy!

  • Dose Anyone Know About The New Haunted Mansion That Is Going To Be Built At The Hong Kong Disneyland With A Storyline Which Will Be Like Tower Of Terror At Tokyo Disney Sea!

  • Mystic Manor, something like "a mischevious monkey sets of an enchanted music box that causes chaos." Not much is known on if it's gonna be anything like HM or Phantom Manor.

  • Happy Birthday! It is hard to believe the Haunted Mansion has been entertaining guests for 40 years now. This is one of Sally Corporation's favorite all-time dark rides and has been a big influence on the rides we have created for 32 years now. Congratulations Walt!

    -Sally

  • Hey. Epcot+Hollywood Studios+Animal Kingdom beats DCA any day. Liberty Square was were EVERYONE needed to be back during the bicentennial of the United States. And the Magic Kingdom happens to be the most attended theme park on this planet. Just saying. ;) It's kind of fun to argue over that.

But, yeah, Walt didn't want anything to look so terrible in HIS Disneyland. However, Phantom Manor and Tokyo's Haunted Mansion both are all dilapidated.

  • i was here when they where fimling this

  • This Ride is AWESOME!! Happy Birthday =D!!

Although i would love to see the Nightmare Before Christmas edition of it its so awesome!

  • Happy 40th B-day to the Mansion!

  • LOVE IT!!!!!

...can do without the fake british accent at the beginning tho. lol

  • Happy 40th Anniversary!! May you continue to give us both the chills and joyful entertainment you have for 40 years :)

  • happy anniversary!

  • i love this ride so much idk why....i rode it 7 times when i was at walt disney world

  • I always feel like the Grim Grinning Ghosts are watching me whenever I go on this ride. O_o;; The longest I've waited in line for this was 10 minutes, no FastPass, last month. The shortest time was 30 seconds, on a Thursday in May.

  • ah i waited like 20 min lol how do you get fast pass?

  • We asked if we could get a Death Certificate about a month ago... but they said, "They are re-working the Death Certificates!" How interesting!!

  • I wISH I COULD GO =(

  • why can't you?

  • And me, I prefer the one at Disneyland Paris :) Everyone has their favorites, I think.

  • LOL I just went on that yesterday!

  • I know!! I went to Disney land and they had all that stuff and Disney next week I just got back yesterday lol

  • Not fare! Lucky:)! haha

  • Its my favorite ride! I love these happy ghosts.

  • fourty years wow. the technology just looks so brilliant in there no way you could believe that it was fourty years ago. it looks all so new.

  • The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride, and I can't believe how well the Imagineers thought up all the great stuff that goes on inside! It truly is the most magical ride the Imagineers have ever created.

  • I am a LONG TIME Disneyland fan, and I have to say, I'm not a fan of the "Nightmare before Christmas" version of the Haunted Mansion that's up during the holidays. I went on that version and I was bored to tears. It's just waaaay too campy and not enough creepy, and I think that the original had just the right amount of camp and creepy. I really wish they'd keep the original up year round. Ahh to dream.

  • it doesn't do it justice...

  • this ride opened on my birthday!!!! and its one of my favorites!!!

  • fun fact: theres only 888 happy haunts thanks to some money issues

  • I havent been On That One

But Mann I want to NOW ahaha:)

  • *favorited*!!

  • Good job Disney and Disneyland!!!! I absolutely love this ride!!!! 40th years!!!!

  • this has to be my favorite favorite disney land ride!

  • the nightmare before christmas version was probably my happiest experiance in disneyland. i went last year, i was 17, OBSESSED with nightmare (still am) and practically cried with joy. talk about recreating the movie! they should make it that way 365.

  • That has to be the worst Cast Member they could've ever used for this (the dude at the beginning).

  • I agree PanicInJune! There are def better cast members who really get in to it.

  • at 3:50 is the Phatm Manor at Disneyland Paris I thought we were celebrating Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, hahahah

  • thank you Walt and imagineers for making Haunted Mansion <3

  • A true masterpiece. Always will be my favorite.

  • That ride is so cool! It was fun and enjoying, my mom and I loved it. (Long line thought, because it was raining for a while.)

  • it totally should have been a walk through experience! I've been saying that for years!

  • The best ride ever made! =D

  • Please, can anybody tell me where I can find the haunted mansion record and book with ron howard and robie lester on CD. The original record had the classic painting you see on the latest issue of Disney's Twenty-Three Magazine. The painting still today get's my imagination stirring.

  • @elpresidio They used to sell it at Disneyland. But I haven't seen it recently.

  • Happy 40th Haunted Mansion! You don't look a day over 100 =P

  • LOL

  • i miss disneyland already :( ive been there like 4 or 5 times. i feel like to live there

  • Why do I keep seeing pictures/footage of the building lit up different colors. It just has basic yellow lighting whenever I'm there at night.

  • ive never been to the one in disney land but i have been to disney world and that one is AWESOME! :D

  • i love disneyland :))

  • this is my favorite ride!!!!!

mostly because this is wear my girlfriend and i had our first kiss. We've been together for almost 6 months and i love her<3

  • aww that's so sweet!

  • I really wish I could go do Disneyland. I want to see the Haunted Mansion so bad! :(

  • We love you Mansion! May you have many more years of haunting!

  • I love Haunted Mansion Holiday with Nightmare Before Christmas.

  • They ruined the ride when they started that. Walt Disney is likely turning over in his grave every year.

  • 1:17?
