I love Celtic Tiger! It's a show which can teach you a few things about irish history. But! This is not traditional irish step dance and the goal is entertainment. So please quit bitching.
If you want to learn history, than quit from wikipedia... best to shut down the computer and simply go into a library.
Celtic Tiger is the story of the Irish and what they went through.
Their epic begins with the portrayal of the passion of the Irish spirit in a fight for freedom. The journey begins before Christianity and chronicles historic events that depict the power and courage of the indomitable Irish spirit throughout centuries of hardship and oppression.
i admit that the beginning of this number sounds like the dancers are replaying 'planet ireland' similaraly from 'lord of the dance' and at the end they're bringing in the fast finale like in 'warlords' from LOTD or 'feet of flames', either way, I see that this number picks up where Feet of Flames ended and shows us how they are doing in their new lives. I dunno if sequals are bad in your view, but most of us wonder what happens after those stories end, and I guess we wanna know how they're doin
Gah, is there anything in this show that is not by Michael Flatley? The music. A good part of Celtic Tiger (Maybe the only one?) And, Oh yeah, the choreography.... That's from Riverdance. I just don't want to hear that under a different name....
Reminds me of stealing....
And I wont say that I can out"dance" these dancers, but you all can hear that Heartland (1995) and this one (2005) sound quite similar...
and I like this costume. MF looks one time as old as he really is: fifty-two!
This totally isnt a rip off of Heartland, the choreorgaphy is very different. The dance that this does closely resemble is "planet ireland" from LOTD. I think people realized that when they saw Celtic Tiger for the first time ... the familiar rhythm patterns got the audience pumped during the opening number. I assume that was Michael's intention all along.
I hope to never piss any of these dancers off. With the sheer amount of cardio they do, I'd probably be exhausted by the time they even start to sweat. You could never out run them.
IT is in our heart and in our souls...music and dance of an undeafed nation of the world...the english tried and still try...Hail to the Irish...you crawl before you can walk...you walk before you can run...and dance before you die...
There is a lot more to this than the steps, there is a story line and if you watch the complete show you will understand, besides just how many different ways can you tap, I think Michael does a tremendous job especially at his "old" age.
I know right, totally thought Michael would've come up with a whole new group of steps for this new show... actually I thought alot of things were gonna different about this show... Irish dancing monks, gangsters, Redcoats, stripping airplane attendants? LOL
AMAZING!! I saw his show in Antwerp last year and this firs performance just blew me away! I have been a fan for 11 years now and last year was the first time I saw Michael live and when it started....my heart skipped a beat. Enjoyed it. And to Ircmonroe...he likes to put in themes that were used before so that people can still relate to it, ecpecially in this case because it is completely different from LOTD and FOF.
Félelmetes volt. Du 6 körül érkeztem. Megláttam, hogy a helyemről nem fogok látni semmit. 1 órát dühöngtem, utána leültem. Jobbra egy távol keleti néni vigyorgott a füle között. Balra két asszony zsidózott, mögöttem a svábok jól érezték maguk. 9 körül át lehetett menni egy másik helyre, ahonnan jobban láttam. Ott mögöttem a belgrádi írtánc csoport tagjai énekeltek.
A tied hova szólt? Emlékszel még rá?
Nekünk Jobb 7 13. sor 10 és 11 szék. Bejárat a Stefánia út felől. 8900 Ft. :)) Utána átköltöztünk valami überdrága helyre. Láttunk is rendesen bár igen magasan voltunk.
that background was totally stolen from riverdance! and all flatley ever does is that stupid toe heel step in a circle faster and faster. yeah that gets old.
My grams took me to see CelticTiger at the SECC in Glasgow-It Was AMAZING,and honestly i dont really like irish dancing though my aunties teach classes in it!!
Ok im not glorifying michael in any way. But he does have taps on his shoes compared to the normal irish hard shoes; HOWEVER, Michael Flately is the person virtually wit the fastest feet ever recorded. So you can guess why the taps come out sounding like they do. For all you haters, I've seen him in person and yes we asked him to do it right then and there no mics. Sounds the exact same just not as loud. This is pure talent, you don't like it? it's cause you suck, go somewhere else....
To silver3344: I met him. He is adorable. And to everyone who thinks about recorded taps: check the Celtic Tiger Budapest documentary (Tiger Feet), without mics, Flatley taps sound the same. All the best to MF!
Actually, this opening sequence was filmed in Budapest.
You have to have some showmanship. If it were just white lights and a few rows of dancers with no moving around, more people would be lost than the ones who get grumpy over some flashing lights.
It became fashionable to take shots at Flatley somewhere along the way, but he and his dancers have tons of talent and skill.
I don't like celtic tiger as much as the others. I think the other dancers deserve more credit than Michael Flatly... He is so full of himself oh yeah, they all have steel tips and heels
Again, at 1:13 I'm outahere. Why anyone wants to be tormented with so much flashing lights and switched viewpoint, everything scrambled to be confusing and meaningless, dunno. I don't.
Guess you can't please everyone all the time. Recorded taps or not, I don't think that diminishes for me the overall effect. I know it's extremely difficult to properly pick up the taps of a stage full of dancers having done it myself (you really have to pound ground, as it were), so I don't let it bother me. The fact is that they're still dancing and it's still amazing. Besides, if the taps are recorded, that still means they have to keep up with them. I'll just take it at face value.
@carolanivey-Rome never CONQUERED Ireland, but not for lack of trying, for many, many years.

I love how they are Irish dancers who look like they lived in Ancient Rome.

A little confused about the roman costume, since (to my knowledge) Rome never conquered Ireland. Love it, though! Thanks for posting!

one question: are most of those dancers college students?
