Uruguay entró con dos torres arriba: el Chenge Morales y Zalayeta. Atrás Recoba y Forlán (que salió casi en seguida) cayendo por todo el frente. Entró D. Silva que no era capaz de aportar lo mismo que Forlán.

Para peor de colmos Hiddink logró que Australia le sacara la pelota a Uruguay en el Centenario para que los celestes no repitieran el dominio que tuvieron en el 2001 en el partido de vuelta cuando ganaran 3 a 0.
