The US spends $8,086 (Source: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) per person per year on healthcare, yet we spend $16 per person per year on healthcare lawsuits (Source: HealthAffairs). Tort reform is blown way out proportion as it relates to healthcare costs.
WATCH THE ENTIRE SPEECH on YOUTUBE, entitled "President Obama on Health Care Reform at the AMA."
It's just too bad that a camera was not on the audience, which had completely filled the hall, and was giving the President many cheers, and yes... STANDING OVATIONS! At the end of his speech, Obama shook hands with dozens of doctors and delegates before the Secret Service ushered him off. This was a very successful event, but not so, if you listen to what the Republicans wrote of it. Typical.
I WAS ACTUALLY THERE AT THE EVENT... and noted multiple standing ovations throughout the President's speech, and even after the mild "boo" he got at the midway point, which has been characterized by so many HACK Republican reporters as the main story. The President actually got huge applause throughout his speech, and at the end, there were hundreds that wanted to shake his hand! BTW, he agreed to work with the AMA to minimize these lawsuits. Get it?
Of course he won't. Don't want the little man to not have a chance to hit the lottery if he happens to experience any p ain or displeasure. What fucking joke. Was anyone dumb enough to expect a law student, progressive, liberal to agree with tort reform? lol Dumb fucks.
i have noticed your messege on a couple of these tort reform vids. i am against tort reform because it gives big business who already own the world, no incentive to care about consumer protection.
I hope he accidentally falls into a pot of scalding McDonalds coffee. And loses.

Tort reform in Texas didn't stop my 20% increase on health care.

There is already tort reform in 43 states. If tort reform worked, health care premiums in all those states would have gone down. Duh

Thank you. The saddest thing is that tort law is or was the only way for injured people to try and get just compensation for the mistakes of doctors.
bodryn 2 years ago
@bodryn What kind of compensation? Compensatory or punitive?
rrhynes 1 year ago
@rrhynes As I understand it, awards are often a combination of both compensatory and punitive damages.
