Data can still be recovered because this machine just crunches things, leaving pieces of the platters untouched.

If you have even an inch of platter that is untouched, unscratched, etc, it can still be recovered under an electron scanning microscope.

People just don't get it! The drive platters must be COMPLETELY destroyed!

This means, heating all the platters with very high heat for several minutes to destroy the platters data totally, or sand them all down, or acid bath them too death!

They do this to make it easier to burn it. They are designed to withstand extreme heat to protect the data so people have information. Destroying it like this takes away that capability so they can burn it.
