This piece should be played quickly, but I find this arrangement to be slightly too fast. This is more of a showoff speed, it should have been played maybe a bit slower, so you can savour the vibrato and the sweetly melancholy parts, but still at a fast enough tempo as to still feel the trill during.

But still, it does take a lot of skill to play this piece at this tempo. So Kantorow is a very talented violinist. :)

The devils trill is supposed to be very fast. It is one of the reasons it is such a hard piece to play. Not that I don't love Shumsky's version, it truly is beautiful, but this feels much more honest for the way this piece was originally written.
