I know how to stop the hijackings. Put remotely controlled decoy ships and boats out. When hijackers board an unmanned ship they will be greeted by video cameras, remote audio commanding them to surrender, traps and remote controlled guns or tranquilizers. After this happens a few times they will thank twice. These decoys can be made to look and act like the real thing. Manned vessels must also take on a look of decoys.
Why can't the oil tanker companies buy those "Protector" robotic gun boats to defend their shipments? Singapore has them and so does the US so why can't we use them and free up our manned Navy vessels for the war effort and homeland defense instead of chasing around rag tag bands of capable pirates. Waste of resources playing the games we are playing with these folks.

The tanker, filled with 100 million dollars worth of crude and 25 crew members, is being held for a ransom of 25 million dollars. I dont know about you, but 25 cents on the dollar seems like a good deal to me. Perhaps one of the oil companies could pay the ransom, lay claim to the oil, and save 75 million dollars. Just a thought from the perspective of someone always looking to save a buck. ....................

A hijacked Saudi tanker, the Sirius Star, taken by pirates off the coast of Somalia last week, is being threatened by Islamic militants who say they will rescue the ship from the pirates. Stating the hijacking is a crime against Islam (and really, what isnt these days?), members of the Somali Islamist group al-Shabab arrived in the town of Harardhere to battle the pirates.

If I owned or operated a ship/super tanker, i would be sure to have at least one well trained deckhand with experience firing LAWS rockets and/or RPGs. I would also have a couple dozen such weapons at the ready. Come within 400 yards, one fired over the bow. Come within 200 yards, you get taken out. bye bye.

I know how to stop the hijackings. Put remotely controlled decoy ships and boats out. When hijackers board an unmanned ship they will be greeted by video cameras, remote audio commanding them to surrender, traps and remote controlled guns or tranquilizers. After this happens a few times they will thank twice. These decoys can be made to look and act like the real thing. Manned vessels must also take on a look of decoys.

Why can't the oil tanker companies buy those "Protector" robotic gun boats to defend their shipments? Singapore has them and so does the US so why can't we use them and free up our manned Navy vessels for the war effort and homeland defense instead of chasing around rag tag bands of capable pirates.
