I try to look at both sides when hearing a political argument. I see where Rush is coming from but I think he's looked over a few important things. People in Iowa have a completely different culture than those in Iowa. People handle situations based on their personal backgrounds, culture, belief systems ect. Rush defends Iowa because he was raised more similarly to the populations there. He can't even compare the two incidents because he can only put him self in one set of people's shoes.
Growing up on the MIssissippi in IA, living through the flood of '93 and unable to live in my home for a year, we STILL got to go home. We had time to prepare, it was very tough to live through floods, but I don't think it was anything like a fucking Hurricane. And yes in the boondocks when it floods, you will get robbed. We had to protect the house every time the flood stage was about 17' and up. Way more people down in LA, too. Crowded people is never a good thing

One of the major reasons the people here in Iowa doesnt act kinda crazy during the flood is that we are very much used to it...they happen every 10 years or so...how often does New Orleans get really badly flooded like the City of Ottumwa or Cedar Rapids or Des Moines have in the last 100 years? And while we didnt have NEARLY as many people die in our floods they cause a massive amount of damage to property and farm fields thats because our local gov'ts are more accustomed to it...
man please, what happened over was the failure of the city's infrastructure at the social level, right before it hit, we were showing that 50% of the people of New Orleans were living in the street as it was a national landmark for teenage runaways and even TV was expecting this exact scenario to happen 1 week before it happened on documentaries
And many of the farm lands are subsidized by the government. Farm states provide a necessity...food...and if it's flooded, that becomes a priority for the government. Blacks in New Orleans were not thought of in the government's mind because they offer less to the overall American community in terms of necessity like food or ethanol from vegetables. And New Orleans was not flooded like any other state, because of the failed levies, N.O. got hit 3x as hard.

The reason that people don't have their "shit" together is because its extremely difficult to do so when the money isn't going at all to the people that need it (only about 22% has been spent). I live in ky , and we just had a major ice storm last winter, I myself was without power for 16 days.. Most everyone in the state was without power for quite some time. My ass told me to tell you that there are countless articles on line that talk about the spike in crime since the New Orleans folks arrived in Houston. One needn't look very far to find them. The murder rate went up about 20% as I recall.

The people of Iowa pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and got to work. Sometimes even pushing back the ARMY that came to help. Government has not completed the assistance they promised 100%. There are so many hoops for these people to jump through just to get there lives back together. We are proud to be the heartland of America.

We, Iowans, did evacuate. We had the same level of flooding. In fact, many houses had over 14 feet of water. We didn't suffer a population loss as large as theirs, because we don't all depend upon the government for our existence. We helped eachother fix up our houses, and got on with our lives.

Prior to Katrina 80% of the residents of New Orleans were on "public assistance. That is a fact you can easily look up yourself. Those same bums sat on their lazy asses and flipped channels while they were constantly warned to leave.

They claimed they were in a world of hurt, yet we see them stealing tv's from stores, starting fights, killing, raping, etc. The folks of Iowa did no such thing. Take it or leave it. I have no clue why you folks stick up for the people of N.O.
Don't take everything you see on Fox "News" at face value. You saw a handful of looters - what you didn't see were the thousands who were just trying to keep their black, white, latino, and asian families safe. A flood in plains-area towns is not the same thing as a hurricane & levee breaches in a major city. And the hurricane was bad, but not as bad as the weeks afterward.
I never said that I watch Fox News. I cactually saw some of the video on MSNBC. Also, I survived two tornadoes here in Oklahoma. Not once did i see murders, rapes, looting etc. I do agree that the Huricane was far worse than the floods in Iowa. You can't dispute that. But, what I don't get is we are saying its 'ok' to do these things because they are in a natural disaster. I do not get it.
What you didn't see is the city maintenance workers using a fork lift to carry the sick and disabled who were prevented from leaving N.O. There were twelve violent deaths, not mass chaos. Those trying to leave on foot were prevented and ironically those who stole cars could leave. The director of FEMA stated that supplies were prevented from coming into the city.
TYT takes evrything out of context and I find to be rather racist themselves... When I was listening, I didnt think of race at all... and what hes saying isnt all that far off... It wasent until his words where ran through TYTs' filter that it bacame a racist statement.
Obviosly TYT either dont get out much, or they just repeat the left wing crap their spoon-fed. Iowa has a rich history of blacks dating back before the civil war...

I try to look at both sides when hearing a political argument. I see where Rush is coming from but I think he's looked over a few important things. People in Iowa have a completely different culture than those in Iowa. People handle situations based on their personal backgrounds, culture, belief systems ect. Rush defends Iowa because he was raised more similarly to the populations there. He can't even compare the two incidents because he can only put him self in one set of people's shoes.

Growing up on the MIssissippi in IA, living through the flood of '93 and unable to live in my home for a year, we STILL got to go home. We had time to prepare, it was very tough to live through floods, but I don't think it was anything like a fucking Hurricane. And yes in the boondocks when it floods, you will get robbed. We had to protect the house every time the flood stage was about 17' and up. Way more people down in LA, too. Crowded people is never a good thing

One of the major reasons the people here in Iowa doesnt act kinda crazy during the flood is that we are very much used to it...they happen every 10 years or so...how often does New Orleans get really badly flooded like the City of Ottumwa or Cedar Rapids or Des Moines have in the last 100 years? And while we didnt have NEARLY as many people die in our floods they cause a massive amount of damage to property and farm fields thats because our local gov'ts are more accustomed to it...

And many of the farm lands are subsidized by the government. Farm states provide a necessity...food...and if it's flooded, that becomes a priority for the government. Blacks in New Orleans were not thought of in the government's mind because they offer less to the overall American community in terms of necessity like food or ethanol from vegetables. And New Orleans was not flooded like any other state, because of the failed levies, N.O. got hit 3x as hard.

The reason that people don't have their "shit" together is because its extremely difficult to do so when the money isn't going at all to the people that need it (only about 22% has been spent). Insurance companies aren't giving the money out to people who really need it, either in an attempt to make a buck or maybe with they know they would run out of money before they could help everyone.

Most of the stories were bullshit. Mayor White was trying the get something for nothing. He wanted fema the police salaries. If anything it was some Houston crimnals preying on us. They knew that many of us were recieving Fema and Insurance money from our ruin houses, cars, death (insurance policies). Many of them weren't the usual thugs. They were the slum lords, politicans,police, some of the citizens. If you do a follow up to those articles you will find that many of those stats were cooked.

katrina people were ask to leave before flood,many people in other southern states offered there houses for safety, why didn't they "all" take the offers,I realize it was and is bad in flooded areas,why didn't they take help offered before?did some have a plan of other ideas?there are good and bad people in the world,people have different ideas of what they want and how toget it?I don't understand why so many stayed there,I feel for their suffering but most could of been avoided,goodpeopleoffers

New Orleans is considered the crime capital of the world FOR A REASON. It is a city -a fairly large city -of which a few bad people live.
Iowa is a STATE, much of which is rural. There are very different factors between the two which makes comparing what happened in New Orleans and what happened in Iowa incomparable.

Also realize those in N.O. were already in dire poverty. The floods hit this area and thousands were affected. But, I can assure you this. The people of Iowa pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and got to work. Sometimes even pushing back the ARMY that came to help. Government has not completed the assistance they promised 100%. There are so many hoops for these people to jump through just to get there lives back together. We are proud to be the heartland of America.

I'm from Cedar Rapids Iowa, which was severely flooded, and we didnt wait for the governent to "save us." We just rolled up our sleeves and fixed everything. New Orleans people are a bunch of lazy criminals.

@festdir You're such an ill-informed person, I hardly know where to begin. First of all, the reason so many people died in New Orleans, is because they didn't evacuate when they were told to. We, Iowans, did evacuate. We had the same level of flooding. In fact, many houses had over 14 feet of water. We didn't suffer a population loss as large as theirs, because we don't all depend upon the government for our existence. We helped eachother fix up our houses, and got on with our lives.

Prior to Katrina 80% of the residents of New Orleans were on "public assistance. That is a fact you can easily look up yourself. Those same bums sat on their lazy asses and flipped channels while they were constantly warned to leave.
After Katrina, the mayor of New Orleans held a press conference where he declared We need MEN to come back to New Orleans who will WORK to rebuild New Orleans. We don't need channel flippers so, if you are a channel flipper stay where you are".

Every time I hear some racist try to use Hurricane Katrina/New Orleans to justify their own racism, I have the overwhelming urge to punch them in the face. There were criminals taking advantage of the situation, as there is in any disaster, but most of us down there were more intent on staying alive. Once YOU go through losing your home/relatives/pets/car/belongings/clean water/food access, THEN you can opine on Katrina/New Orleans.

Don't take everything you see on Fox "News" at face value. You saw a handful of looters - what you didn't see were the thousands who were just trying to keep their black, white, latino, and asian families safe. A flood in plains-area towns is not the same thing as a hurricane & levee breaches in a major city. And the hurricane was bad, but not as bad as the weeks afterward.

I never said that I watch Fox News. I cactually saw some of the video on MSNBC. Also, I survived two tornadoes here in Oklahoma. Not once did i see murders, rapes, looting etc. I do agree that the Huricane was far worse than the floods in Iowa. You can't dispute that. But, what I don't get is we are saying its 'ok' to do these things because they are in a natural disaster. I do not get it.

What you didn't see is the city maintenance workers using a fork lift to carry the sick and disabled who were prevented from leaving N.O. There were twelve violent deaths, not mass chaos. Those trying to leave on foot were prevented and ironically those who stole cars could leave. The director of FEMA stated that supplies were prevented from coming into the city.
