Roger Moore was pushing 60 when he made this film, the only Bond he should have been in at this point were pension bonds. Bond should have ended after The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977. It belongs in the 60s & 70s and should have ended with dignity instead of flogging a dead horse. Only dullards like things beyond their creative sell by date.
@flaxonx3 The Spy Who Loved Me was crap. Shit score, wooden Bond girl, Moore at his most smug, and forgettable villain. A View To A Kill is superb cheese.
Rather than Die another day, I would say 'Casino Royale' is the worst james bond movie ever made, followed by 'Quantum of solace'. They lost that 'secret agent' magic and centered the movies in chases, explosions and cars. And that sucks. The last 2 movies look like giant ads to me.
BTW, this scene is hilarious, I still laugh when I see it :)
What "secret agent magic"? James Bond was becoming a comicbook hero joke and the concept had exhausted itself in the 80's already. Ian Fleming never wrote his novels like that. They were going the right direction with Dalton's movies but they were too ahead of time, so they went back the Moore-era (which should have ended with Moore) when Brosnan became Bond. A walking anachronism, if I may say so myself. A 60's character stuck in the 90's.
Oh, so "Casino Royale" was the worst Bond movie ever? Really? Rottentomatoes (the site in which they accumulate ALL reviews for a percentage) gave it a WHOPPING 94% positive rate. 202 critics loved it and only 12 didn't. 87% of the audience who voted on that site also liked it.
On Metacritic it scores a very high 81 out of 100.
AND it was the biggest Bond box office hit too with a $594,2 million wordwide. Source Boxofficemojo.
The re-boot was sorely needed. Who the hell can take a movie with invisible cars and other over the top unrealistic gadgets seriously?? Stupid one-liners which even Brosnan himself admitted he really HATED saying.
The Bourne movies made so much money and became such huge critic favorites, the Bond movies looked like they still were stuck in an outdated formula. It's not the 60's anymore
I like the old Bonds, but they have had their time, and it's time to move on!
But I think you guys are missing the real point. James Bond in 1985 invented snowboarding, paving the way for thousands of college-age douchebags to ruin ski slopes around the world with shitty music and the smell of marijuana smoke.
guys James Bond films were not meant to make you laugh, they're SUPPOSED to be action flicks with witty one liners. most are great but some, like this, are plain stupid
Using California Girls was good way to signal the end of the Moore era of Bond by going out with his flair for the jokes and gags. Scene still cracks me up today after all these years. It's right up there with him riding a horse to the Magnificent Seven theme in Moonraker.
@TheSparkyG Theres no such thing as a bad bond film and as someone else has already pointed out the beach boys music added here was a stroke of genius. Its called tongue in cheek which Roger Moore's Bond is renown for. If you don't get this scene then you just plain thick
@KevServo yes, yes i stand corrected . Die Another Day was awful but somehow I didn't think of that. Its probably due to the fact that I've burned that sorry 007 instalment out of mind!
The band used for the film was not the Beach Boys but Gidea Park who had hits in the early '80s with compilation singles of Beach Boys & 4 Seasons hits.Gidea Park still tour the world and are featured on you tube.
But the producers of James Bond films made a mistake in let Roger Moore to work in the last two movies he did (Octopussy and A View to a Kill). On both Roger Moore look like father of James Bond.
@deusirae76 at least his Bond was more entertaining to watch than Craig's. Craig turned bond into a expressionless jason bourne wannabe. Connery and Brosnan were the best even though they may have had some bad bonds.
@deusirae76 successful or not they were all still better than craig, I don't know what the fuck happend in quantum of solace but he really sucked as bond there. And honestly tim dalton was was much closest to the bond in the books compared to craig. But to me Connery and Brosnan were just perfect for the role.
@lawrence4566 Craig turned too Bourne-ish in his last installment, without any doubt, with all the shaky cam stuff ... but Casino Royale wasn't that bad. On a minor point, the fist fights are certainly the best of the serie. Each actor who played Bond has something to complain about, and something to appreciate as well. Craig might be too hard-edged with no humor at all, it works well for me.
@deusirae76 after quantum I can't picture him recovering from that bad performance, even worse I think the character of bond is will start to disappear in the next bond films. Even in the new Blood stone game, craig bond looks more like Bourne film. We're starting to see bond from an american's view
I think James Bond can't ski snowmobile skids. 0:12 how somebody can ski without ties.

Roger moore has to be one of the most athletic bonds, he's the only bond that's done a back flip.
