That's exactly what I'm doing when tutoring my little sister. She's in an accelerated Geometry class in 9th grade, but over the summer I have taught her pretty much any algebra and trigonometry she'd ever need, and we're doing Calculus an hour a day from Mon.-Thurs. now during the school year.

Actually, she wants to major in Math/Computer Science, so this year is Calculus, next year is programming, etc.

I second this. Logic is fundamental for becoming a rational human being. I think it's the most important subject of all. Especially when you consider that one of the biggest problems in our society is misinformation and ignorance. The ability to reason about something on your own is the only way to escape "indoctrinated ignorance".

It's important to understand that there's a difference between reasoning and logic. Logic is simply a system of recognizing validity and fallacy of the conclusion of an argument.

Yes, of course you're right, there is a difference between logic and reasoning; logic is the means by which we can reason about something correctly. Thus logic is instrumental for rational reasoning, which is why I think it's so important.

I can't believe the bookstores can bring themselves to rip off starving students. My calculus book was over $100. And they come out with a new one every year, so you can't buy one used. It's so wrong.

Will you ever teach programming? Do you know of any place that has free programming lessons? I want to learn the C/C++ or "objective C" language. Most classes I find are all online anyway. It would be nice if it was free on video.
