Just a question about flaxseed is there an age limit on flaxseed I.e what's the youngest ages of a child can take it just because I have a child who is 3 and we struggle to get omega 3. I've just recently started using flaxseed it was recommended by friend due to me having a rheumatoid arthritis can you or anyone help or advice on this.
Natali....A wonderful educator but she needs to advocate use of the whole seed is kept in the refrigerator and... she needs to talk about the importance of LIGNANS (yep google: health benefits of lignan and see what you get) It is why flax seeds are better than flax oil which has lignan removed.
It's really better to buy the whole seeds and grind them up in a coffee grinder. You get the most out of them that way. Oh and so many Cereals are mostly GMO Now days
I stick with Oat Meal and blue berries. I love your shows on here thank you so much for doing what you do. Doug in Calif...
Egg replacement:white(off egg) ,flaxseed or hemp nuts and tofu and soy souce.Problem is that you need a wife with the same mind to cooking and eat this products.White egg not contain colesterol, have B12,is easy to assimilate .
Buy whole flax seeds and grind them yourself as needed or a few days in advance. As soon as you grind them they begin to oxidize and can go rancid quickly once ground. So buying ground flax seed is risky.
I do not eat cereal as a meal but I do as a treat in place of ice cream etc, and when I do its usually the bad cereal, coco puffs, frosted flakes, etc.
Sorry, but Omega 3's (EPA & DHA) in fish oil is far superior to any other essential fatty acid. Flax is ALA, which is fairly common in many nuts (like tasty walnuts). The body CAN convert ALA to EPA/DHA, but the process is between 5-15% efficient, meaning you would have to consume 6-to-20 times more ALA (flax) than EPA/DHA (fish oil). And there have been no scientifically backed studies for flax seed.
If you really want to be healthy, cut out all fat but fish & olive oil and walnuts.
@Pube83 i would rather say to cut out carbs, not fats :) i would not give up my avocados, coconuts, flax seeds, turkey/chicken/pork meat(raised by my parents of corse) and a whole lot more foods with healthy fats, but I sure as hell haven't ate any cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, processed crap etc in a very very very long time.
Oh yeah good point, I forgot to mention coconut oil (which I use to stir-fry with). Avocados are also good, but not great fat (better than anything processed of course lol). And of course there's a small amount of fat with lean animal proteins. And you definitely want to cut carbs over fats and proteins. Fat is essential for joint lubrication, hormone balance, brain function and many others biological processes. I've read 0.4 to 0.5gr of fat per lb of lean body weight a day.
I'm not saying they're not healthy, it's just that there are better fats. Avocado is a monounsaturated fat, while polyunsaturated fats offer the greatest health benefits.
Flax seed every morning in my smoothie: (1) natural juice base along with almond and/or soy milk (2) frozen organic mixed berries (3) banana! (4) ice (4) tofu.
Thanks Natalie. Lot of information. I don't eat cereal, but I love using flex seeds. I mix ground flex seeds into dough and I use (blend) whole flex seeds drinks.

Don't be scammed! I've researched this, and the FDA DOES NOT APPROVE ASTAXANTHIN FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION! Only approved for animal consumption! This is on an FDA.GOV website! 2011
@1stsmosh The FDA and USDA are being run by people in the industry. The real scam is the people who look the other way when big business is poising America. If you watch tv shows in America or take a walk outside your area, you will find that America health wise is the WORST in history right now. Does this make sense?
I heard once that once flax seed is ground it loses a lot of it's benifits after a few days and that is why it is better to grind it yourself and use it as you need it. Is this true?
Now, finding that it agrees most with my digestive system and energy, raw grains like cracked wheat, barley flakes, ground flax, with maybe ground walnuts added. Just put water sometimes a little warm but no enough to kill enzymes or good bacteria. Also have enjoyed red wheat soaked over nite and eaten after it is soft.
Cooked grains just don't really accept well in my stomach anymore. Lucky I guess as raw is the best way at least for me.

Sometimes I have the same cereal as I listed below but I omit the Shredded Wheat and replace it with 3/4 cup of steel cut oats. I like it a lot but I find it easy to gain weight when I eat steel cut oats. So I try to keep the steel cup oats down to to only once every week or two. Although I think it's a very healthy breakfast! Thanks for asking Natalie!
I eat about 10 cubes of shredded wheat cereal with one teaspoon of the following: Turmeric powder, Maca Root Powder, Milk Thistle powder & white Chia seeds. I then add 1 tablespoon of Bee Pollen, 2 tablespoons of Mesquite powder, 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds, a small packet of stevia, a handful of raisins, 1/2 cup of chopped up walnuts I soaked overnight and a hand full of chopped up pecan nuts. I mix it all together and then I add a qt of my homemade almond nut milk. YUMMY!!
Ground flax seed from the store is rancid, old and has bad taste, lower nutritional value. Grinding fresh - is the way to go. I Always get whole organic seeds and grind 2 tblspns in food processor with water for at least 2 min on highest speed - best method. Also adding a bit of coconut flakes improves it.
and drink that with raw cabbage, carrots, kale as you need enzymes to break down flax seed further. Get a good food processor - that's a must.
be Careful with these little seeds they are Super high in PhytoEstrogens and too many estrogens can be a bad thing, especially with with all the plastics and chemical estrogens we get exposed to.
Buying ground-up flaxseed is NOT good advice, because then the omega3s are already rancid. Also, Natalie fails to mention that the omega3 in flaxseed is just ALA, which is only a plant precursor of the anti-inflammatory omega3 EPA, with a conversion rate in the body of max. 10% (ALA->EPA), but can be as low as 0.2% (if you are deficient in vitamins and other substances that help conversion). So flaxseed is not really a substitute for eating EPA directly, as in fish oil.
So she's saying that you can cook grounded flaxseed? Are omega-3-6 fatty acids thermally stable enough?
And one more thing. I heard that grounded flaxseed looses it's nutritional value after a really short amount of time. If anyone knows to help me, I'd be grateful.
I bought a bag of raw whole flaxseeds. If I chew them can I still get the health benefits? It says on the back you can eat them straight, but I want to make sure I'm getting the health benefits.
I usually soak my flax seed ( about 2 tea spoons) overnight and blend them up the next day morning along with some spinach and banana. Will the body be able to digest and absorb nutrients from soaked flax seeds ?
Very nice

be Careful with these little seeds they are Super high in PhytoEstrogens and too many estrogens can be a bad thing, especially with with all the plastics and chemical estrogens we get exposed to.

Cheers!

I make all my meals from scratch (mostly). Being vegan, it's a necessity. Cereal;
Steel cut oats/quick oats, Soaked sunflower/pumpkin seeds, sea salt, cinnamon, Jamaican allspice, shredded coconut, soaked flax seed,
