@benroo89 What my father meant was that the beauty of bob dylan tracended his technical limitations (Vocal and musical) and if you want to make judgements on a hard working man stuck in a dead end job based on one sentance of dialogue that you have terribly misinterprated then you have to live with that but I would suggest you get down of your high horse and actually listen to the song you're commenting on. Astounding.
@stickyjam1 Just what musical limitations would you say that Bob Dylan has? Consider that he could write great songs faster than anyone. His vocal melodies are both intuitive and innovative. Have you ever tried to write a song? Forget great, pertinent lyrics that echo through time. Just try to write melody over some chords and see how far you get. Bob Dylan is one of the most talented musicians in history. His vocal limitations are irrelevant. His voice is honest and endearing.
@stickyjam1 If your father meant that "The beauty of Bob Dylan transcended* his technical limitations", why did he not say that? Instead he said "Terrible but brilliant though not good in any real sense." Not only is it ridiculous but patent contradiction. "Not good in any real sense" cannot be easily misconstrued. Dylan is not good, he's great. He's right up there with the likes of Beethoven.
@galleybox it's about love being simple, not all the games and showmanship and rituals ("cloak and dagger dangles...") that people do when they're in love (carrying flowers, making promises, talking of the future, repeating quotations....but that's just superficial like statutes made of matchsticks.....and bankers' nieces who seek perfection......
cdylan, i mean this in the most nicest way i can possibly think of saying. I mean if i where to try and think of some way that would put my point across any other way without offending you i dont think i could. Your a fucking freak.U must take a lot of drugs, weeks on end without any sleep. Most "Scots" live in england?? Im gonna disagree with that. I live in scotland but now you have just confused me to as where i actually live.Mmmm..
I disagree. Yeah there is loads of rubbish out there but if you dig around a bit you will find music thats really great. Just don't stop looking for it!
I'm 14 years old and British...and Bob Dylan is simply incredible! I wish more people my age listened to his music instead of bands like MCR and Blink 182.
Good music seems to be becoming a thing of the past.
I agree ilvekenn22, but if you search out bands who feel the same way you do about music then you will be very happy - start looking for smaller, newer bands that directly appeal to you...and not just what the record companies think you want to hear.
i am british and agree dylan was the greatest artist of all time tho the lennon and mcartney come close but dylan after all inspired everything that came after him
It's so amusing hearing British people slag Bob Dylan, yet I bet they idolise the Beatles. If only they could understand that without Bob Dylan bands like the Beatles would have never, ever existed. He is by far and away the most influential musician of our age.
It's a bit ridiculous to say that bands like The Beatles woudn't even have existed if it weren't for Bob Dylan, as The Beatles didn't even her about Dylan until they were a successful band in Britain and Europe. They were influenced by him when they heard him tho.
Bob Dylan and The Beatles are astoundly influencial to the "modern Music". They shouldn't be compared for so many reasons. First off Bob Dylan is one man and the Beatles are a band of people. The Beatles influenced the pop genre and Bob Dylan inspired pretty much every singer-songwriter since the 60's and is also a huge credit to modern anti-war groups. They should not be compared, they are both revolutionary
@lenstonbain Very true, plus The Beatles also influenced Dylan. The 1960's was a stomping ground for amazing musical talents, and all the artists added together today don't equal 1 hundreth of the talent of Dylan, never mind the rest of the artists in the 1960's.
Dose matter wear something beautiful comes from. He may have been born in the USA in 1941, but he would probably describe himself has a citizen of the world. I'm not an avid fan but I do like Hey Mr Tambourine Man, anyway good luck to you solder and keep smiling.
I didn't know that you had to be from Britain to get on the BBC, when did they start this rule? Maybe it has to do with the fact that he has a huge fanbase in the UK and has been touring here every year since his never ending tour started in the 80's. The guy is a total legend so shut it.
cdylan, i mean this in the most nicest way i can possibly thing of saying. I mean if i where to try and think of some way that would put my point across any other way without offending you i dont think i could. Your a fucking freak.

Put it another way-Dylan transcends trival opinions of his limitations.
This is greatness. In 20 or 30 years time, people will still be moved by this.
