Well I'll try to explain. If you played the first Blair Witch game you know that this house which is also Rustin Parr's seves as portal for timetravel by defeating Steuben he travel's back in time and is found unconcious in this house by Robin's Grandma or other townspeople
But let's start from the beginning what happened to Robert MacNichoul (Lazarus) after he was shot in the passageway to Rustin Parr's house? Well he should have died back then like his comrades but it looks like the Spirit of Elly Kedward (the Blair Witch) saved him from the same fate but it was too late like Hekaitomix (the being that possesed Robin) said
He became a prisoner of the woods he was not like the ghosts but more of an undead corpse he couldn't age as you see during the war he was 39 years old but the game starts twenty years later which means he's now 59 or 60 years old. Of course you could think that he somehow made it to the house of Rustin Parr and traveled to the future.
But my opinion is that this didn't happened because look at his clothes they're looking very old to me. He spent 20 years in the woods controled only by the ghost of Ellen until she decided that Robin should find him. After Robin brings him to her house Bess (Robin's grandma) responds to him in a strange tone "Ohh! It's you!".
Why did she answer in such a tone? Look at the Video when it's on 3:01 the date of the year is 1863! This was the FIRST time when she met him and treated his wounds while this happened Lazarus told her the whole story that will happen in twenty years what the forest really is and what she had to do when he met him again.
Before he left Burkittsville he gave her the jacket of his uniform which you can find in the first game when you visit Robin Weaver's house. In the through this time paradox he not only saved himself but also Robin from a cruel destiny.

I really liked the gameplay in these games but I HATED downright HATED the fact that they made it so its not even a witch....whoa change the story completly watch out for hecatomix......stupid and lame
