  • the one with skiny head has playing both lead and bass....with some flickin' nt sound.. wow/.....rock well son... ^^ where can i see the free sheet music.. i want to teach my self... tnx

  • fusion

  • oumygaaaaaaaaaashhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh rooooooooooooockkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • I want those drums so badly...

  • CHAPMAN STICK!!!!!

  • Sounds like swing

  • holy shit I just realized that guy is playing both the guitar and the bass on that instrument. Who the fuck is he and what is he playing?

  • @OmegasuperJamesguy dont know who he is but its the chapman stick

  • Only real progressive part here is the chapman stick... the drumming is pretty straight-ahead :/

  • It took me way too long to realize that there is no third person :O

  • This the coolest shit!!!!love it

  • I've never been more intimidated by a guitarist/bassist.

  • You can find even MORE drumless tracks at minusdrums (dot) com. Over 400 rock, blues, metal, and jazz tracks.

  • simple nothing to see or listen...

  • This is more a blues influenced rock than prog

  • sounds more prog bass not rock drum :D

  • sounds more prog bass not rock drum

  • which is the name of this guitar???

  • vaya chufa

  • what is that thing the other guy is playing?

  • @bruceeeee559 i think its a chapmans stick

  • What defines Prog?

  • @RageMachineAgainst Depending on the genre, progressive is basically genre A plus a very artist/musically felling to the style. For example, Progressive Rock has the basic foundation of rock music, and then adds a more artist/musical feeling. Listen to bands like Animals As Leader or Liquid Tension Experiment for reference.

  • @RageMachineAgainst no man! prog bands arn't Animals as Leaders or LTE, most common prog bands are:

Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Genesis, Camel, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Le Orme, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Marillion, and Yes.

if you want more references for other, least known bands, just contact me :)

im all prog from the Floyd to Ultima Spiaggia

  • @handyguy007 Will do! Thanks a million! :)

  • @handyguy007 ma sei italiano??

  • @netsky3 I'm not sure what you said, but no, I don't know italian, and i am not italian. I've never even been to Italy! haha. I'm mexican. I know its weird, but im one of the few prog fans here! :)

  • @handyguy007 lol, i asked if you are italian, is weird that a mexican knows band like Banco or Orme :)

I'm proud of this kind of music, italian prog is good but very underrated imho :)

  • @netsky3 i know! Seriously, you italians made some SERIOUSLY GREAT prog. I mean, Latte E Mielle's "Passio Secundum Mattheum" is fucking awesome, especially at the start, and PFM's "Per Un Amico" has one of the best endings ever! And lets not get started with Banco's "Darwin"; that album must be on my top 10! :)

  • @handyguy007 Darwin is a true masterpiece of prog rock made in italy, the best album imho of PFM is Storia di un minuto.

If you want i can give you some interesting bands in pm ;)

  • @netsky3 Pm means Progressive Music of Premiata Marconi, or what?? haha

anyways, I have the Storia Di Un Minuto, thanks anyways, but I really haven't listened close to it yet.

Anyhow, yeah sure, Id love to have more interesting bands. the world is full of them and I still have lots to listen to. Even if i were of any age, but when ur 15 one hasn't listened to that much music yet, haha

(yes, I am 15 years old)

  • this guitar/bass dude is the most awesome f***** i've ever seen!

  • How is this progressive?

  • Sounds like a tame version of an Eric Johnson tune.

    Nothing "prog" about it.

Unless of course, the Tony Levin look a like is the reason behind the video title.

  • this doesn´t sound like prog rock at all

  • @DannyWDrums wtf, to me it sounded, by only context and idea, (not musicallity or structure), like Genesis...

  • @DannyWDrums it speed up dude if you would have pay attention you would have notice

  • Mike is so fluid such a good drummer it makes me mad!!!Im man enough to admit i wish i was better. And the guy shredding that "Chapstick" is talented.Great porn song no????

  • Comment removed

  • chapman stick FTW!

  • i don't understand how this is considered progressive. its in 6/8 for the whole song.

  • Good video, although I would have liked to have seen Mike provide more than merely stable footing for the stick player. Not really enough experimentation and variation to be considered "prog drumming."

  • dude.. wats da song in the beginning of the video.. its awesome!

  • i dont care what it is, it sounds fucking good!!

  • what kind of instrument is the man on the right side playing here? i've never seen something like this

  • @dontjuhu Not sure what its called, but it's basicly a bass/Guitar.

The neck is devided up so half is bass strings and the other half is guitar strings, so you can play bass with your normaly "fretting" hand and the hand that would normaly be picking would hammer on and pull off on the guitar part of the neck.

  • @dontjuhu

    it's a chapman stick

  • HEY GUYS........CAN YOU HELP ME ? I WANT THE tablatures or chord to try play ... your great

  • i just finished watching one of their "funk" playalong videos, and this one is more "funk" than progressive rock

  • The drummer is a little too loose in the pocket if you ask me.

  • Progressive rock my bum. Yeah, they play very good these guys, but there is NO way this can be categorised as prog... The bassline is a billion miles off for being prog, the drumming is way too busy without complimenting the music, and the music is just not progressing at all! This sounds far more like a jazzy jam.

  • That's awesome to see a Chapman stick, both of these guys' playing is awesome!

  • need to teach bass/guitar lessons, not drum lessons here ....

  • Is that Tony Levin?

  • This guy looks like Steve Lemme from Broken Lizard!

  • Damn, these 2 are enough for a band.

  • that guy can fucking shred that bass/guitar :P

  • read the fucking description after asking...

  • I didnt know Steve Carell could play drums like that

  • this is 4/4 though, it's just a swung rhythm

  • How is this progressive rock? This is just a long jam in 3/4, right?

  • i have as progresive in my focus and rush

  • admitt it, you were looking at the bassist

  • Nice job, Mike and Jim. I listen to the "Arbutus and Jade" CD often.

  • nice grooooove

  • sounds like any colour you like by pink floyd

  • Comment removed

  • awesome drumset...the sabian paragons are too cool.

  • woahh.....he play bass & guitar at the same time!! that guy so crazy..he well managed both hands

  • drums shit

  • this is not prog rock..

  • @DDrummr41 progressive rock is a lot more diverse than you may think, there's progressive metal, jazz-fusion, psych-progressive, etc. this is by definition progressive due to the melodies

  • thats some crazy n tough bass to play lol

  • not a bass....... its a chapman stick... read the discription

  • ooh yeaa thanks i read it =] still tough tho

  • :D yes

  • too plain

  • not for only TWO PEOPLE....go play your guitar and keep thinking you'll be a rock star......

  • sorry mad. not man lol.

  • hes man bc the sound guy totally muffuled out the drums, the guitar is drowning him. is suppose to be a drum play along not a lets her the guitar player along, thats why i hate sound dudes, they never listin.

  • It's meant to be a drum play along, as in YOU drum along to the GUITAR/BASS to see if you can create a good/cool drum beat to go with it.

  • @aikepah oo so the drums just sit in the background just creating noise i got it.

  • @soulformusic4020 Nice job totally not understanding what I was saying :)

  • @aikepah no i did lol, he was mad bc he was drownd out, i dont blame him, guitar players like to think the amp has to be cranked to sound good, thats one of our problems at pratice.

  • dam the bassist looks like a creeper

  • dudes playing with two gt-10s!?!

  • what kind of instrument is that old guy playing?

  • its called a chapman stick, look for it its cool intrument

  • Weird, if you look at his channel Mike is a really great drummer, but here he seems... uninspired.

Still five stars though, just for the Chapman Stick. :)

  • I was tired and we were having soundman issues.... I tried to look happy and awake.... haha! Rock on drummers!

  • hey... how is called this kind of bass guitar? thanks!

  • its called a chapman stick.

  • thank's!

  • no its not its more like blues jazz fusion shit

  • he doesn't play like most prog drummers do

prog drummers just dont provide a kick and a symbol for the bass

its hard to explain how prog drummers play but its fucking amazing

    NOT HOW THIS GUY PLAYS

  • very mature playing. keep up.

  • there is something wrong in this video. Its much interesting the bass guy than the drummer. So why the title of the video and the cam focus on the drum..???

  • i hate this drummer sooooooo mch!!!!!!!!!!!

  • look at his youtube channel and you would want to smack yourself.

  • well then u can go die he rocks

  • truly uninspiring!

  • sirious face at the beginning lol

    especially at 00:20

  • You kick ass Jim!

  • its 12/8 ACTUALLY :P

  • It's the same thing ACTUALLY.

  • well if i must explain myself......its all about the feel. 6/4 would be counted as one and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and...but 12/8 is a much more swingy/triplet feel that applies to this track counted one and uh two and uh 3 and uh 4 and uh. So there

  • @tdscotland17

How would you make the distinction between a 12/8 feel and a 4/4 triplet feel, if you would be kind enough to explain?

  • @akoolbhatt The composer writes whatever he feels makes sense in context.

  • this doesnt have the solid sound quility that most other of the drum lessons do

  • that ride is absolutly brilliant

  • Bit boring i thought :(

  • Nice set of Sabian Paragons, great sounding cymbals.

  • i thought that was Tony Levin for a second there... hahahaha

  • Haha same :D

  • same, i was looking john and jordan to pop up lol

  • @drummer52388 haha yeah the baldness and the chapman stick...i thought the same thing

  • @drummer52388

Glad you only thought that for a second...if it really was Tony Levin I think you'd know pretty much immediately that it was him.

  • what the fuck is that guitar lookin thing?!!

  • description: "This video features a cool instrument called a 'Chapman Stick' which plays both bass and guitar at the same time."

  • Chapman Stick?

  • that was tasty.

  • it is a shame there are such jackass's commenting on this video , .it is just two guys jamming ,and very good i might add, for two guys to make all that music that is excellent why doe's everything have to be analysed , it is just music if it is not to your liking , then don't watch or listen , but to put someone down for doing what they like is just plain stupid

  • /Signed

  • Thats a ballin type of gutair

  • its a little repetitive....

  • It took me about two minutes before I realized the other guy was playing the rhythm line as well as the solo.

  • ME TOO! I was like, yo... oh shit.

  • PLAY THAT DICK!!!!!!! lol

  • that's not progressive music!!!!

  • pretty much anything that is loosely formed music played by more than one person is considered prog...

  • how many strings are on that bass?

  • I think it's called a Megatar. Google it, they're interesting.

  • i think 12

  • 14 strings

  • what's name the opening song ?

  • ignition by Mike Michalkow

  • i wish someone would hug my wiener

but thats more of a accu-finger handjob on a giant brown wiener

  • i like it but i wish the snare would mix up the 2 and 4 on the snare and/or throw in some ghosts - pauses are all very well executed though and that guitar is just badass, even if it looks like hes hugging a brown weiner

  • "even if it looks like hes hugging a brown weiner "

    LMFAO

  • rofl he is wearing a Criss Angel shirt

  • Mike Michalkow on drums

  • fuck all you fags and your genre classifications...

this is what it is, and what it is isn't important...

get your heads out of your asses...

  • They're just talking about the genre. You have to take it so seriously.

  • Great music guys.

  • doesn't sound too prog to me but its pretty sick all the same

  • why how well you guys can play against the two on the video?

  • This is not progressive rock. The is almost like jazz fusion. Does this sound anything like any bands usually considered progressive rock bands? Yes, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Camel, Genesis, Rush, Dream Theater,

  • This is almost like Jazz Fusion for CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!A far cry from Prog Rock???

  • well the drums are pretty simple for progressive.

  • lol.. should his be a pro dummer?! he needs to move his head for remembering the time xD^^

  • Well Anderl22 he's not a world class drummer but he's no slouch either...

  • dont see how its progressive rock tho

  • Mike! I'm coming to see you guys at the Cellar on May 21st!! Can't wait... I love the chapman stick and it's nice to see your finally playing with such great musicians!

  • sympa

  • thats FUCKING AMZING!!!!!

wtF IS HE PLAYING I NEED ME ONE!!!!

  • 12 string guitar

  • i love the sound of those basses, John Myung from Dream Theater uses one on a couple of songs its a great sound

  • It's called a chapman stick :)

  • Those are two insane human beings.

  • oh those progy bores are all over the place should someone start "p...".

i mean, screw grumbling and screw the excessive admiration, this playing is at least interesting and i'd call it variable and great.

    thank you guys!

  • Well, I know a lot of prog songs that have this style of 12/8 shuffle in sections of songs.

He's in the pocket, but it's not extremely creative drumming...and I would hardly call this definitive prog drumming.

The chapman stick player is pretty good. He got a very John Myung-ish bass sound. I didn't like his tone choice at the beginning. I don't really dig the rotary speaker effect. The bluesy sound at the end was a bit better.

It's good playing. But I don't know that I would call it "prog."

  • the only thing prog about this is the chapman stick.

no technical drumming, and as far as i can tell its all in 6/8

  • Holy shit!

That guy's playing both a bass and electric at the same time!

Wierd fucken instrument I gotta say.

  • what's so progressive about this?
