  • mj was a cultural icon, he was IT back then, he was the Beatles, kobe is zeppelin, not the greatest ever but a damn good substitute

  • @BodyHeatQ Kobe is not a substitute he is the IT guy too. MJ who?

  • Kobe is the best!

  • @utfanatic2000

stats lie when you compare people sometimes though...

just because someone gets better stats doesn't ALWAYS mean they are the better player.

they could just have the ball in their hands more and/or more opportunity

  • @vinsteeezul Stats never "lie", you just need to view any evidence in perspective and context. I agree that better stats does not equal better player. But Jordan was more productive and effective than Kobe in virtually every way possible, even while shooting more-a situation in which we would expect MJ to be less effecient. Kobe is a poor man's Jordan. Nothing wrong with that.

  • @utfanatic2000

ok well im telling you, stats are deceiving, and i never said anything about kobe or jordan.

but i do agree with you on all of your points, except im just gunna throw in that kobe is a better 3pt shooter than jordan, while taking more shots from the arc, which may skew kobes regular fg percentage down a bit.

but yeah i do not disagree that there is absoutely nothing wrong with being the closest thing to jordan, since jordan.

  • Post-up game; driving it to the rim; slashing, catching, finishing; mid-range jump shot; 3-point shot; fade-away jump shot; stop on a dime, pop, nothing but net! @ 20 years of age how many ballers have you seen possess such a complete game ? In all my years of watching ball I've only seen Kobe with the above described game. Others have to work each off-season to add some skill to their repertoire while Kobe had it from the start and used his off-seasons to perfect it, both mentally & physically.

  • @klirshead That's how GREAT he is !!

  • This Kobe guy might turn out to be something special???

  • @dallas021 Nobody said what kobe has done is not an "easy feat". However, it simply does not match Jordan's performance. Durability? Look at Kobe's games played the first 2/3 of his career. The last few years Kobe has been durable, but Jordan was moreso. He played a full 82 games in 9 seasons, including at age 40 with a bum knee. Determination? Kobe is certainly not more determined than MJ was.

  • @utfanatic2000 how do you determine determination? :P

  • @themantien Hah, exactly. Purely subjective through watching them perform. Tough to make a case for Kobe being more determined.

  • @utfanatic2000 and vice versa

  • @themantien You can, because Jordan has better stats and performances in the clutch, coming through more frequently on the biggest stage. That's objective, and stems from determination, amongst other things.

  • @utfanatic2000 thoguht you said it was subjective earlier? so which is it? im confused...:/

  • @themantien I said determination is subjective. But you can make a subjective case that Jordan was more determined based on objective evidence.

  • @utfanatic2000 ....i just don't understand why you feel the need to try to prove kobe's not a great player? remember that convo we had a while ago,you said the mav's were you're,but dirk would never led them to a ring. tell the truth are you reallly a mav's fan?

  • @dar818 My point is that Kobe is overrated if you are going to seriously contemplate putting him on Jordan's level. I have Kobe rated as an all time great, but in many ways, he has only produced at any average, or all star level. And yes, I am a now ecstatic Mavs fan. :)

  • @utfanatic2000 Kobe has been to the finals 7 times in his career and won 5 of them, that's average? Then Dirk is got to be mediocre compared to Kobe.

  • @utfanatic2000 o yeah, people only remember the best parts of what a certain person does because of natural selection. Kenny Smith does mention stats being of 2 lies that can mislead folks...

  • @themantien Stats tell the truth of part of what happened. It's objective. Memory can fool people, that's why people look at stats. They don't fade with time like memories.

  • Ma man Penny getting schooled lool

  • damn the league was great back then

  • kobe at a young age already had a low post move something lebron wishes he had...

this is why i would take a young kobe middle age kobe and older kobe over lebron..

  • i miss the fro and goatee!! bring it back kobe!

  • Did anyone at the time imagine that his career high would end up to be (hint: 81)?

  • my nigga...

  • hahaha was Kurt Rambis the coach . what a joke!

  • Gotta love Shaq's complete lack of enthusiasm at Kobe's amazing performance. Trouble was already brewing way back then.

  • Afro Kobe from the end of the 90's, he was so fun to watch, not very good shot selections, but was a remarkable player. I prefer Kobe 08-10, less athletic but more intelligent.

  • dammm kobe has a fro!

  • 38 points hahaha. He can do dat wit his left hand now in one quarter

  • I remember watching this, being disappointed (I was rooting for Orlando) because of the huge lead and complete collapse. The 20-year old Kobe Bryant was singlehandedly man-handling the Orlando Magic in the 2nd half.

  • 38 points a career high? What a horrible game by Kobe haha.

  • how anyone in their RIGHT MIND could ever compare le fake to this guy is beyond me....not even close. kobe can shoot lights out in his teens. give me a fuckin break

  • I remember thinking Kobe was a good young player back in the day, but once this game happened I knew at that point he was going to be one of the greatest Lakers of all-time. It was the first time I remember him taking over in that MJ kind of way.

  • I think if Dennis Rodman played wit LA in the playoffs that year, they would have won the ship that year.

  • ruben patterson played for the lakers.kobe stoper my ass

  • young kobe can destroy everybody from that 03 draft easy lbj melo and wade it aint close they all call him the best only wade is close and dats pretty disstant

  • these are the types of games Kobe had throughout the Shaq and Kobe run which is the reason I get pissed at the people who say Shaq won by himself. When it was many games every year that Kobe strapped the team up on his back and went to work.

  • kobe's been raping da magic since 99'

  • Ruben Patterson sighting at 3:27. If you can't beat 'em (and he wasn't even close), join 'em.

  • @BeefPapa Yea I think he started that "Kobe stopper" nonsense when he joined Portland which was the year after this I believe.

  • when u watch these videos and u watch kobe playin now he's not the same i like #8. u can tell kobe is getting older. the only thing he has he didn't have back then was the extreme clutch ability

  • @josette5

1- Well DUH! Of course he's getting older.

2- He didn't have extreme clutch ability back then? What video were you watching?

  • Kobe's first "great" game. Wouldn't be his last.

  • good list but, you forgot Elgin Baylor.

  • i love penny but kobe juz shitted on him his entire career

  • listen to the announcer guy when kobe makes it lol

  • as of rite now magic johnson and kareem abdul-jabbar are the greatest lakers...kobe has a strong chance of bein the greatest laker

  • Who gave that a thumbs down? Idiot

  • Kobe's voice hasn't changed at all since then!

  • kobe looks exactly the same as he does when hes 17 xD he doesnt age or sumthing

  • It's because he's not human.lol.

  • 3:35 it looks like forshadowing of what was going to happen 10 years later, only fisher hit that jumper lol

  • wow thats a good catch.

  • damn that was amazing!

i was kobe fan back then, just legend!

  • too bad the quality isn't better. but nice to see highlights either way!

  • Kobe Bryant: Greatest Laker Ever

    Shaquille Oneal- 2nd greatest laker

  • Magic Johnson is far better laker than Shaq.

  • @nineonmychest No its Magic Johnson, Karreem Abdul-Jabbar then Kobe.

  • @God0ptimusPrime nah

    nah its

    kobe

    magic

    kareem

    west

shaq cus from 99 to 05 he might have been the most dominating force the has seen i never seen wilt but i imagine he wus like dat

  • @nineonmychest Kobe could be da greatest Laker ever but Shaq aint number 2...u gotta Put Majic, Kareem, West, infront of Shaq

  • shaq was a motherfuckin truck in the key

  • Kobe

    Magic

    Kareem

    West

    Worthy

    Shaq

  • @RTR9 MJ above all of them.

  • @PinpjJ10205 they are all lakers, can MJ be on a list of the best lakers?

  • @retardopose I was just making my point that MJ is the greatest, that's all. Stupid.

  • @PinpjJ10205 Why do u call me stupid?

  • LOVIN THE OLD SCHOOL MUSIC !!!

  • lol a decade later kobe wins a championship here

  • lol amazing even as a rookie Kobe was so freaking skilled, that's insane.

  • this is like what second year he is in NBA? that's freaking crazy. it reminds me why he was my fave player from very long time ago it's been an adventure watching ihm develop his game, I have never seen more skilled player to me at least he is going down as the greatest when he retires.

  • ha ha so many games by kobe that are great there are to many to count every game he dose has some historical background

  • kobe bryant the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball. top 10 ludacris . no way in hell jordan seeing kobe on his best day.

  • bs shut up. its a great performance but just quit

  • 38 :OO: now is 81 =D

  • Kobe just abused my boy Penny Hardaway but Penny had a point gaurd skillset even though he wanted to be a 2 gaurd.Penny should have stayed slim and not bulk up that extra weight hurt his game badly he was just as strong as any point gaurd from his rookie season on out but he wanted to be a scorer.Kobe on the other hand top 10 player without a doubt.

  • Matt Harping got OWNED at 5:12. U can her Bob Costas say, "Harpring tryin' to deal with him *Kobe makes the shot*, "But nobody can" Kobe shitted on every magic player on the floor at one time or another. And this was only his 3rd year in the league

  • career high, 38

lol, he can do that whenever he wants to nowadays...

    what a beast!

  • i remember this kobe bryant. that's when he was 100% a photo copy of jordan. did you see that little licking of the fingers when he hits that shot? guess who he got it from? yep, jordan. and the media didn't help either with the endless comparissons of kobe to jordan. every single move kobe did was from jordan. the only thing original in kobe's game at that time was maybe his three point shooting because he is a better long range shooter than jordan was. but jordan was over all better.

  • Here is the thing

Kobe came to the team with shaq and everyone, and shaq was the main scorer. if Kobe came to the team being the main scorer, he could have improved even more than where he is at right now. Michael Jordan was always the main guy to pass the ball to. then slowly kobe started to take over. If kobe took over earlier, he could have been better. but then again, he wouldnt have 3 championship rings that he had before he won this year.

  • i completely agree with you. now you try telling that to the lakers and kobe fanatics and see how far you'd get. Especially the part when you said he wouldn't have his first 3 championships rings had he been the man all along in LA. it's funny how phil jackson gets to LA and feeds the media a bunch of bullshit about how kobe reminds him so much of MJ and how Kobe was a better shooter and had more skills but when it was time to win chmpionships, he wanted Shaq to lead the team.

  • Eddie Jones was sooo much better than Rice that season pffffft.

  • Wow, Ten years later, he wins his fourth NBA championship on this very court.

  • Damn I miss NBA on NBC, sickest opening music ever. TNT's music is just horrible, their music has no life.

  • ya..heart of a champion by nelly...awesome music

  • um no Roundball Rock by John Tesh. I don't like Nelly's cover.

  • Afro Kobe was so fun to watch

  • @NycGamer192 yeah hahaha he look so funny too!

    the best!

  • kobe at 23 - 28yrs old would 187 Lebron or anybody else in the L, everybody knows that, even the haters know.

  • you damn right kobe would dance around him

  • Kobe is past his prime idiot, 24 years old Kobe would litarely MURDER Lebron on the field..and anyone else for that matter.

  • @Rustaveli2k7 nah kobe aint out of his prime cuz he's still winning championships

  • @Rustaveli2k7

Kobe is not past his prime, his game has just changed with age. He can still score when he wants, whenever he wants.

  • @xsalvioutlawx He's past his physical peak. His athleticism at this time '96-'06 was unbelievable.

  • @xsalvioutlawx nope, you don't know basketball. Kobe's been past his prime since 2008/09. a player that's been in the NBA for 15 seasons is not prime, regardless of who it is & how great that player still performs.

  • @Rustaveli2k7 Yeahhh. I mean you cant say anthing about that. Kobe would make james look dumb at 24

  • @Rustaveli2k7 Kobe wasn't in his prime at 24 but he was better than Lebron by the time he was 22 Kobe's Prime was from 26-30

  • i love kurt rumbus.....hes a pretty cool coach

  • dont forget that lebron james is being compared to a kobe in his prime!!! at only 24 years old...thats how gifted he is

  • LOL, actually that is what one would call NIKE and the media!

  • uh kobe was compared to jordan at his prime when kobe played against him at age 19 hahaaha so come on man they do that

  • yea but it was all media bs..cuz if u think back kobes game wasnt as good as todays...he coulnt score at will or get his teamates involved. dont believe the hype.

  • dude kobe is on top still lebron is great but he hasnt taken it yet. Fuck im tired of this discussion ten years from now yall will be defending james from the new and soon to be the best in history rookie. Just fuckin enjoy goddamn

  • uh kobe avg 29 6 6 at 21-22 the season they repeated...kobe was no avg player...but with that said he is not the second coming of mj but he is and has always been an incredible talent....mj is an original that anot and will not be duplicated. but dont downplay kobe to build up any body else tho

  • yes he was no average player i know that. still wasnt as good as he is today.

  • Every year Kobe seems to grow in other areas of his game...obviously he isn't as atheletic as his 19 year old version...but just look at his decision making and strength backing down, he is wayy better now.

  • Lebron sucks cock

  • Haha, 38pts was a career high then. To think now that 30+pts is smth that Kobe gets every so often. :D

  • Kobe = best player ever!

  • sorry michael jordan is

  • @FMEGAIIIOI lol, Kobe is an all time great, but he's definitely not the GOAT.

  • @utfanatic2000 he will be when he is finished

  • @Rustaveli2k7 No he won't. He's simply not good enough. Kobe's peak level of performance paled in comparison to Jordan's. What Kobe CAN do is simply play longer than Jordan.

  • @Rustaveli2k7 : only in the minds of his fans

  • nice fro... he needs to get it back

  • lol...it will look pretty bad if he has it now.....

  • handchecking?!?! physical yes, effectiveness..not for this game at least

  • ive got tons of kobe bryant vids, if you like kobe bryant, check out my channel

  • All I can say is Nick Anderson fuckin sucks!!

  • who cares about PER??

  • alot of ppl, mostly basketball experts, its very important

  • Do you have the end of regulation for the game in Orlando the next season? The one where Shaq intercepted a pass at half court on an inbounds pass and threw down a dunk to tie it with last than 20 seconds left. That was amazing.

  • I remember that play but I don't have it.

  • wasn't kobe 20 years old at that time. he was already better than lebron

  • lol no he wasn't. kobe average 20 ppg that season while lebron averged 27 ppg at 20 yrs old(04-05)

  • Lebron better? Only more physically dominant. Anyone with eyes can see that Kobe's On Ball skills were supeior to Lebron's at the 20. Today as well. Lebron still has alot of the skill deficiencies now that he had in high school. Cannot say that about Kobe. Take off 60 lbs. Lebron is good but not great. Poor shooting in all stages, subpar footwork, no post game whatsoever, makes highlight blocks but very few fundamental stops. Still relies on his size and athleticism to dominate just like Shaq.

  • Physically dominant. Yes. Skill wise. No. Still has same deficiencies. Kobe does not. Kobe's weakness is his ego, not his skills.

  • @chitownmo

    lebron is a media's trademark

kobe opened space by himself, by doing it on his own

    lebron arrived as a superstar..despite of his mvp's awards i can't see a superstar

  • And still shoots free throws at the rate of a average power forward. The best? Like I said take off 40-60 pounds solid but not great. Not with his deficiencies.

  • i loved this game this is when i started watching kobe after jordan retired since jordan left the game kobe just took the league over 33 in the second half in this game unbelieveable i saw it live it was very coo game for kobe bean

  • clutchcity25 is right

  • i was at this game.. it was amazing

  • Kobe can be compared to jordan in so many ways. Kobe might not be at that level right not but trust me Kobe will be soon.

  • I love Kobe. He is the best player in the league. He works really hard and I admire that.

  • KOBE is better than michael... kobe scored 55pts on jordan face in his final game...

  • Actually dumbass, Kobe is nowhere near MJ. He didn't score a single point in MJ's face, and MJ destroys him in stats, accomplishments, accolades, records, rings, and impact on the game. Wake up to reality dude.

  • MJ is better, legacy wise, public image, and Stats wise. Individual talent and skills, no one knows. Maybe KB24 is more talented, but luck, fate, and timing are very important in professional sports. And oh yea, Kobe did score on MJ, numerous times, for ur info.

  • Well if Kobe is as talented as MJ, he will be the only all time great whose talent and skill aren't reflected in his stats. Skill and talent are meaningless unless they translate into performance on the court. Kobe is talented individually, but can't really compare to Jordan.

  • And no, the post I responded to said Kobe scored 55 pts in jordan's face in his final game against him. In that game, Kobe actually scored 0 pts on Jordan. Stackhouse primarly guarded Kobe that game along with a few others. Obviously both Kobe and jordan scored on each other, but not in that game.

  • the nba on nbc fantastic

  • I remeber watching this game

  • visit FLINGDATINGSITE . COM for hot women to date

  • i'm a big kobe fan....but mj is the still the greatest, c'mon people there will never be another jordan

  • when kobe retires... they'll b saying to other players "the next kobe" not "the next jordan" kobe is kobe jordan is jordan... if u put it down to the nitt'e gitt'e... i say kobe would take it

  • Actually, if anyone were ever going to say "the next Kobe", they would have started by now. Kobe has been in the league 11 friggin years already! Kobe couldn't take Jordan on anything save for possibly 3PT shooting.

  • your right in a way i guess.. but they didn't start saying "the next jordan" intill jordan retired

  • Actually, no, they were saying "The next Jordan" or "Baby Jordan" LONG before Jordan retired....heard of Harold Minor? Ron Harper? Grant Hill? Just about every great player than came up after 1988 was compared to Jordan....

  • some ppl startd to call OJ Mayo and others the next kobe

  • Good for them!

  • If ur old enough u would know that they didn't start saying "the next jordan" intill he retired in 1993.

  • Incorrect dude. Ron Harper, who entered the league in 86-87 was referred to early on as "the next Jordan". Harold Minor, who entered the league in 92 was called "Baby Jordan". Pretty much every player close to Jordan's size who was athletic has been called the "next Jordan" for quite sometime. Kobe is the latest..

  • I agree with you 8ghosts Lmfao all day @ jordan fans feelin threatened lmao

  • LMFAO at Kobe fans that can't stand reality: that MJ beats Kobe in every facet of ball imaginable save for 3PT shooting, and even beats him there in the playoffs. :)

  • lol@ jordan fans feelin threatened

  • yo utfanatic!! theres a video caLLed "LeBron James, The Next Jordan" i dont see your comments fuLL of stats in there.. ur saying that nobody is in mj's LeveL.. but why are you posting your comments on kobe vids onLY? theres aLot of pLayers of players being compared to mj.. yea thats what i thought.. YOU ARE NOTHIN BUT A KOBE HATER!!

  • either ur inLove with jordan or ur obsessed in hating kobe? if you think kobe cant be compared to mj, why do you keep on posting ur comments fuLL of stats on kobe videos? why dont you post ur comments on tmac vids or iverson vids or LeBron vids? its Like ur trying to show that kobe is the onLy PLAYER worthy to be compared to JORDAN.. think about it.. i know that you didnt reaLize that before.. btw.. nice video mamba 9831..

  • You're trying to downplay Kobe 06 season with your #42. But we're talking about scoring right now. And Kobe 06 season ranks 7th on the all-time single-season list (2832pts). Only Chamberlain & Jordan scored more pts in a season..and Jordan did it just once.

  • Actually, I'm not downplaying it at all. #42 is where it ranks. That isn't downplaying it. That's REALITY. I'm not talking pts, I'm talking season PER ratings. MJ scored more in a single season anyway, so your point is moot. Yet, Jordan also did much more in his great scoring seasons than than Kobe has, hence, much higher rated seasons for MJ.

  • The mro you post.. the more Im actually starting to see that Skill wise Kobe mightbe superior to Jordan... I want to be proved wrong.. but after watching all of Kobe's videos its becoming eevident

  • It isn't evident in the least. Skill wise, Kobe has absolutely nothing on MJ other than possibly 3PT shooting. MJ had quicker hands, quicker feet, faster, better leaper, better defender, stronger, better mid range game, better penetrator, better finisher, FAR better leader, and better in the clutch. It's not really even close.

  • Kobe's 05-06 PPG and total points is more than just about every Jordan average and total point stat excluding the infamous '86-87 season AND it's ranked #7 all-time. And many people will tell you that MJ is a smarter player while Kobe is better when it comes to pure skill, not necessarily athleticism, but PURE skill.

  • Jordan's 86-87 season isn't "infamous" it's famous. And yes, KB's peak scoring season in terms of ppg only trails Jordan's 86-87 season, but MJ has had 8 seasons of 30+ ppg vs. only 3 for Kobe. I have heard a few people say KB is more skilled, but I've heard many more say MJ was better, more talented, and more skilled than KB. Having watched the entire careers of both, I'd definitely have to say Jordan was.

  • And KB's top season (05-06) is PER ranked #42 all time. Jordan has 7 of the top 20 ranked seasons all time, and 4 of the top 10. FYI, Lebron is currently playing at a pace that would rank as the #6 season all time, in terms of PER.

  • Jordan missed almost the whole 86 season. So he really started to chamberlained the league when he was 23. At that age, Kobe had already scored 56 in three quarters, drilled 12threes in a game, scored at least 45 in 2 straight playoffs games & being the hero vs Indiana in game 4 of the finals.

So you put Kobe at age 22-23 in this mid-end 80's era, and he would have chamberlained it. Alrigh Punisher?

  • Actually, in the 85-86 playoffs is when MJ scored 63 on the Celtics, one of the greatest teams ever with the best defense in the league. But you forget that defenses were quite a bit tougher in the 80s and there was handchecking allowed on the perimeter. The nba got rid of that specifically to increase perimeter scoring. KB is the beneficiary of that. Phil jackson recently said "Michael would average 45 a night under these rules."
