One aspect of our military in Iraq has been obscured is the fact that, just like the mercenary units in Africa, most of the young men and women are in the military for the money they get for signing up. There may be a few misguided ones who think they are there out of "patriotism", but "we have to keep sending people to die so that those who've died will not have died in vain" seems pretty lame to this Vietnam veteran.
