I love how my fellow British commentators can not recognise the second verse sung by singers of diverse background and ethics. 1) The second verse is part of our national anthem. 2) The people singing it are not all Chinese, but rather composed of singers of diverse background and ethics. Do some study, or watch the bloody Olympics next time, before you commenting on relevant videos... :)
@mark1mod0: I bet it was the chinese who required that last verse from another version to be used. Although I fail to see what was wrong with just using the 3rd verse but I guess it glorifys the opposite political system to the communist government. Personally I would have loved it if we used the real second verse here
@kanenkitten Well actually it was the decision of the UK to sing that verse. The Chinese did not place restrictions on what we were allowed to do, only on the space we were allowed to use in the stadium for our presentation. Personally I think it was the right decision.
@kanenkitten Well seeing as the whole thing is made up of several verses, I don't think it matter which verses were sung as long as the first verse was included since it is the main component of it. The lesser known verses are just as valid, and seeing as its the Olympics which after all promotes the values of the second verse they sang, it's apt to include it here.
My great-grand father was a victim of the Opium addiction.
Wealthy landlord, British Opium forced him to sell out all his wealth, land, assets, and even his children (my grand father) into slavery to finance his addiction.
Imagine the King of England, would his let his disciplines of the British India Company do this immoral act of cowardice because of the trade imbalance between China-UK, to sell highly lucrative and ultra addictive opium to British people?
Honestly, maybe you didn't have any members of your family affected by Opium or the Opium wars, but if British occupation was all that good, then the world should throw themselves openly into British arms.
Ooh, more British Colonialism please - they onnly help the white people, British India company wanted to make money off Opium addictions to finance their empire building.
You can look at all the shiny skyscrapers in HK right now, but my great-grandfather was addicted to opium !
I am well aware they have done bad shit too. But it has nothing to do with people's lives now. Without them being here, HK would've remained an insignificant and poor area. You wouldn't be saying shit on the internet now if it wasn't for them. And maybe YOU don't have any members of your family being affected badly because HK was given to China.
You can go suck the Imperialist asshole, because HK is nothing but a trading port for British Empire's trade with China.
Stolen land, I decreed you to die in mericless pain for EVERY suggesting that the British Empire was legitimate in her devious activites. Terrible you. FUCK YOU BITCH.

Isnt that the fourth verse they added on? Was that by British consent or did the Chinese require it?

But be God's mercies known
