@elusivejahnell - the song was successful because Miss McCutcheon had played Tiffany, a downtrodden cockney barmaid in Eastenders who was killed off by misogynist producers in a gratuitous and violent fashion when trying to escape with her daughter. The death caused national trauma.. for a few days at least. Since some people could not distinguish between Martine and Tiffany, this music video and song seemed like her resurrection and people flocked to pay homage to her, making the song number 1.
