I stayed in this hotel after that happened and it had a very bad vibe, I didn't even know about the murder. The room really looked like something out of a horror film, but I tried not to think about it as I was out most of the day sight seeing. But that night someone called our phone at 4am and told me they were gonna get me and other stuff and then started banging our door! It was crazy. What a scary place.
Damn, that guy doesn't look 35, balding at that age, DAMN!!! as for letting sex offenders walk, the stupidest notion is that they will be rehabilitated.
I've had the misfortune of staying in this hotel back in 1998. All reviews you see about this place only touch on what its really like. I've been back over to new york a few times since but never stayed there, but I took a look inside again and it is still the same, surely even the Americans have some sort of standards as far hotels go. This was always going to happen in a place like H C. I can't believe its still operating, the Chinese people who own it look very dodgy as soon as you enterfoyer
This disturbs you? Come on there are muderers like Ted Bundy, Andrej Chikatilo, Jeffrey Dahmer, Jack The Ripper, Charles Manson, and the list goes on.... This are real murderer.
I just watched Inside Edition and they did a story about this place. It was named the dirtiest hotel in America for the 2nd year in a row. I read some of the reviews -rats, mice, bed bugs, garbage, filth. Why is this place still open? It needs to be condemned. Why anyone would stay there is beyond me!
Jimmy, There have been multiple suicides there in 1931 and 1932, then again in the 40's, and several murders, including a police officer murdered and a 25 day old infant murdered there by her father.
The story about the guy smoking is also true. He died the next day at the hospital after falling asleep smoking and suffering very bad burns to his upper torso.
thats exactly who this hotel was built for, dirty Eurotrash who care less if they spend their nights in filth. Fuck the price, who cares how cheap it is or where its located? Spend a little more money and stay somewhere a little more respectable. Anybody who willingly goes back to this trash after staying there previously has no self respect.
@scooniepenn The Hotel Carter appeals mostly to prostitutes and their "customers". From the 1970s until the mid 1980s, it even served as a homeless shelter for drug addicts and the few people who were actually unemployed during the Reagan years.
Oh no, the Overlook's not a real hotel, thank goodness! I meant the haunted hotel from 'The Shining'. The Carter reminds me of a real life version in an urban setting. Anyway, I thought I was the only one who liked to read bad TripAdvisor reviews! LOL! :)
Ever since I saw the dirtiest hotel list on tripadvisor Ive been facinated with this place. I even walked by it the other day and noticed the front door is covered in hand prints. Idk why I found that strange but i did. I just cant stop wondering how this place is in business.
I was on the 6th floor but I cant remember the room number, I think it was 611. But I arived on the 2nd Sept, I didn't even now anythnig about the murder though!
Just looked it up, it was in room 608.

Zero-star hotels are very unsafe. Stay at least in a 2 or 3 star hotel or higher and it's much safer.

The city sometimes parks problem officials in there!

The only reason why this hotel still exists is its location. If it were in a more average city, it would be closed within days.

There's been a few murders and freak deaths in that hotel. We only found out when we had camera crews asking us questions, the hotel said nothing
