i've heard a while ago about jean grae but i never checked her out. this is my first listen of her and i have to say she sounds pretty dope! not just as a female emcee but as an emcee period! i'm loving the vibe from this song
I've seen this video over a dozen times, but every time the abortion scene comes up, I have to suppress the tears! And I'm just straight a guy who doesn't know what it's like to be pregnant.
damn, I just saw the video on deadendhiphop comparing Nicki minaj and Jean Grae. Jean Grae would destroy Nicki's fake commercial ass! Jean Grae is just a dope MC!
so i thought this shit was cool when i found out me and jean have the same b-day the 26th thats way rad to me and i thought i would share that wit ca..:)
@jamiebridges123 because Nicki appeals to mainstream and does a lot more than just rap. She's different. Jean Grae happens to stick to the hip hop only route and she remains underground like Common, Nas, Lupe, Rapsody, Mickey Factz, ect.
@DivinelyMochaDipped I feel like she incorporated both and made it her own. When I say she's different I mean no other female rapper has also done that pop like stuff. There won't be another Nicki. I feel like she's talented she just doesn't fully show it because she wants to dumb it down for the $. Point is the reason why Jean Grae isn't as famous is because Jean Grae is too lyrical for mainstream. That's not what a lot of people want right now unfortunately. She wont sell out which is good.
Saw her in Seattle last night, best show ever! She involves the crowd, then kicks it with her fans. She gives advice if you ask her questions about any kind of art. Plus she's funny as hell! Loved her before, but after meeting her I'm a fan for life!
Hold ya head high my black sistas.. won't be long before Christ come back.. us Israelite men waking up to this truth taking our rightful place.. won't be long ya heard -peace
@nicky63220 You are right about it being a Herbie Hancock song, but the song 9th Wonder used was Norman Connors' remake of "I Have A Dream". I just found that out a month ago, LOL!!!
This be the truth. We need more of this and less of the superficial and fake ish parading as Hip-Hop. Tracks like these mean something and they touch someone somewhere giving hope to somebody and that's profound. Jean Grae I feel you!
damn its crazy how common this situation in life is.. i think HALF of women go thru it.. i like shit like this. we can all relate to the song and video. hella deep. sad, but uplifting. its good to know you are not alone...

@Nickyelunico Im saying shut up comparing and talking about Nicki, that goes for everyone, and actually discuss the issues portrayed in the song. It is ridiculous that you "hate" someone so much that she is all you can talk about
jean grae just became number 2 best female rapper for me, lauryn still got first, but she better drop some quick to keep her there cause Jean is smashing she is def in my top 20
This is REAL Hip Hop. Jean Grae is a genius real talk. Her music evokes so much thought and has so much feeling to it.. Not too many people making that real ish that you can really feel. Her and Nicki Minaj need to switch places.
Today the first time Ive heard this song. And its fukcin brilliant! Jean is and has always been an awesome storyteller. By far the best female Mc still making music. Alot of these chicks need to take lessons on what it is to be an mc. Especially living in the south. It hurts my head how wackness spreads quicker than an AIDS epidemic..Keep doin ya thing Jean..real headz love u!
LOL @ you bringing up Nicki Minaj when she has nothing to do with this video. It shows your insecurity and bitterness, and that deep down you know what Nicki is the standard
i cant post my comments, this is hiphop in its truest form, symbolically and verbally brilliant, this video is, he's a beautiful artist in any way you can describe her....jean grae is a gifted mc...when need to support mc's of this caliber and get back to developing artists, just like the lakers groomed Kobe, he earned is positon, they throw aspiring artists to the wolves, lets gaurd our sheep..take back our artform
