Your right the church isn't evil, it's God's bride. But we screw it up every now and again. As for Socrates, I don't have alot of knowledge. But I think Jesus could take him.
Lol, I don't think either are the violent type. If one where to compare Jesus and Socrates many parallels surface (especially the events surrounding and significance of their deaths). The second Testament is heavily influenced by Plato. Its a reason why is such a rich text. I see overlap between religion and philosophy as a way to temper superficial views of faith that are too common place today.
Jesus' teaching live on because of their Neo Platonist roots. There are many parallels between Socrates and Jesus. The Church isn't evil, but lets put the teachings in their proper place. Sure, I enjoy Kirkegaard, but I don't think the Christianity has been the same since Nietzsche.
Amen! We need a Christian revival that is worldwide. We need to come back to scripture and not interpret the New Testament. Forget denominations I say. We need a new, singular denomination. It must not include idols, efigys, ritual, incantation, etc.
I have always wondered how can we share Jesus with those who do not know Him if we don't spend time with those on the "other side" Just wanted to add that :))

I have always thought the church should be about love and not about control. It is good to hear a kindred spirit.
