  • I got a Hellraiser Special C-8 for X-Mas. I have been working so much all I have done is take it out of the box and put it in the SGR-1C case. That amp sounds good. I still got my two Ibanez TBH-100 solid state heads, (discontinued). I'm hope full my guitar sounds that brutal. Thinking of getting an Engl Invader 150. Any, keep it brutal \m/(-_-)

  • @TempestaRiggs The Invader would be pretty sweet.

  • lol Flobby Mc String Central \m/

  • maybe next you should invest in a better head? you hav a gorgeous collection of guitars but your usinga line 6? have you ever concidered getting an engl?

  • @wertaw So what if I am running a Line 6 head? I have preferred the tone I get out of this thing to most live rigs I have heard. A lot of people judge line 6 based on their Spider and POD stuff. The HD147 and Vetta II were class act pro rigs.

I have never been crazy about tube amps. They always feel sluggish in their playing response to me. However, I do love the tone of Engls. I don't do anything to justify dropping $2-$4K just on a head though. If I did anything, I would get an Axe FX.

  • Hey dave does the low F# intonate well with the 26.5 scale?

  • @ICJ3X Usually. Sometimes its a little off, but not by much. The shorter saddle helps, but I may go with a .080 for the F# and see if the extra tension over the .074 helps.

  • @DarkKnight369 thanks, i played the mapel walnut one in a guitar center for 3 and 1/2 hours straight. decided im buy the hellraiser special or the damien 8

  • this compared to a c-8 damien elite...how is the neck diffrence? and i see it has schecter tuners how good are they...to anyone who can answer, cuz i know the elite is thin enough for my small hands to shred on

  • @xlxfinaldeathwishxlx The Schecter locking tuners are pretty good. I hate the black nickel finish though as I have a problem with corrosion. I wish they would go back to either black or chrome.

Not sure on the Damien vs the Hellraiser neck. Unless someone owns both, I doubt you will get an answer. It would be rare for a shop to carry 1 model 8 string, let alone 2.

  • @xlxfinaldeathwishxlx The Damien Elite 8-string has a bolt on neck, so it's much harder to reach to lower frets. But the Hellraiser has a neck thru design that makes the lower frets much easier to hit. I think the Hellraiser is worth the buy if you're a lead player.

  • @dremora1324 Most people have a problem with the highest frets on the C-Shape designed 8 strings. The thickness and opening room just makes it hard to reach.

  • is the neck too thick for average sized hands? I heard schecter necks were kinda chunky. If so I'm going with an ibanez but i like the scheters a lot better.

  • @clanbigger4 I don't know...I have large hands. The Schecter 8 string necks feel flatter than the 7's. I find them comfortable, but its all personal preference. You can always buy from somewhere with a return policy.

  • Black cherry is a common finish that anyone can get. The limited edition one is gloss black.

  • @Tysnatch You need to get your facts straight. The Black Cherry limited run was the first production release of an 8 string by Schecter. It was a limited run of 100 that was released at about the beginning of 2009. It sold quickly so Schecter decided to do a limited run of 100 black C-8's. After that sold, Schecter did a limited run of 100 white models. After all 3 limited runs depleted, Schecter put this guitar in all 3 colors into production.

  • I just got 1 of these 100 crazy @ss monsters today !!! ... FCKNG AWSOME ...

(try this sh*t out ... not kinda fear factory but it will do ... "headbanginwise")

  • @MrAugustMordum If you bought it brand new, its not part of the limited run. The limited run models all were released in 2009. Anything now is a normal production model.

  • @DarkKnight369 see where it says 'uploaded by x on feb 11 2009'?

  • @tonystrong11 NO, what are you talking about?

  • bitchin tone!

  • @metalman1a Thanks.

  • you, good sir, have me convinced. going out to buy a tasty 8 string tomorrow!

  • do you like fear factory isn`t? :P

  • @sercenare123 8 string would more be Divine Heresy, but yes on both accounts. Although, they are by no means my favorite bands.

  • orgasmic tone man :)

  • which do you like more, the loomis with stock emg 707, the schecter blackjack, the shecter hellraiser c-8 or should i get a blackjack c-8 i dont know whether to buy a 7 or 8 string guitar plz plz help me darkknight369

  • @TheMetalhead804 Loomis with blackouts. If you have yet to play a 7, then start there.

  • Nice...as always sick ass playing DarKnight

  • @verber001 Thanks dude.

  • Bast!!!

  • Where can I find strings for this beast?? seems a 7 plus a bass G string oO

  • @OuvidoInterativo You have to buy the 7 th and 8th individually. I use D'addarios website or just strings dot com.

  • @DarkKnight369 one question to u. is it worth the 1500 dollars?

i can't say powerchords sound better with the 7-8 string exstra but it sure does sound good.

    how are the emg 808's?

  • @laiholapso I would say so. I definitely didn't pay that much though. I got this for $920 with the case included when this was part of the limited 100 run.

If you are just going to buy a guitar to play power chords, why spend so much?

The 808's sound better to me than the 707's. The bridge really needs a brighter pickup in a dark guitar like this. The ATX models would sound better.

  • gots me a stringless guitar w no neck and invisible body.

    incredible sustain !

  • how is the neck

  • @Warriorboss14 Its fine, I don't have any issue with it. I have not played other 8 strings, so I cannot compare it.

  • 8 string awsome nine string meh. i find seven string guitars perfect, and after playing a 8 sting i look at my six strigs and go wow its mssing strings.

  • i turn around this guitar but i wanna know if she stay tuned?... because she don't have a head lock like the ibanez, i'm asking because the price is pretty cheap....

tanks for response dude and its a good review! tanks!

  • @EMGXX84

It has locking tuners and it stays in tune quite well. Way less hassle than any locking nut and bridge setup as well.

  • @prog2djent HD147 is more for metal. POD has more general patches...does have some extra effects too I think.

  • Comment removed

  • @prog2djent They discontinued it...so its only a matter of time before all the stores world wide sell out.

Engl amps are amazing though. If I had the money, I would buy a Savage 120, Invader 150, or Special Edition. I would also consider an Engl power amp with an Axe-Fx.

  • what gauge strings did you use on this guitar?

  • @alecxg The gauge it comes with.

  • @DarkKnight369 i havent researched much on this guitar. last time i checked i saw 10/13/17/30/42/52/64/74 is that the right gauge?

  • @alecxg Yeah...But I am thinking of trying a .080 instead of the .074 for the F#/Gb string. I am thinking it will fit through the tuning post, but I don't know how it will feel when transitioning between strings.

  • @DarkKnight369 who know i dont think it would be that bad. on my schecter hellraiser 7 string i put 10/13/17/30/42/52/68. thats not that big of a transition to me. but the 80 on top of a 64. on most bass string the high D string is a 65 and the A string is an 85 so maybe just look at a bass so you can get the basic idea of how it might feel.

  • @alecxg You know....I may try a .068 for my low A string on my 7's. Right now I have similar string gauges but with a .064. I had some lying around for my 8 string and wanted to bump up the tension. I was playing last night and noticed the tension in the low A is slightly less than the rest which can trip me up in fast runs. I will see if D'addario makes a .068 and give it a try.

  • @DarkKnight369 yeah the .068 is great for drop A it holds the tension pretty good and feels right to the rest of the strings and has a good clearity to it. thats were i had problems i couldnt find a .068 from D'addario so i used the daddario 10-52's with an ernie ball .068 which im not a big fan of ernie ball but for the moment i guess it works till i can find some from D'addario. so if you find any if you could let me now were you got them from that would be great. thanks!

  • @alecxg Just checked...D'addario website has them. They also have a .066 which might sound a little better for me to try initially. I just wish they had a .076 or .078, I am sure .080 will work, but I worry about the nut and the tuning peg handling it.

  • @DarkKnight369 alright thanks for the info! that would probably be good and it would probably suit an A just fine. yeah thats what i worried about when i got the 0.68 cause i was going to get a .070 intially but i was skeptical about it fitting through the tuning peg. the .068 just barely made it through my tuning peg. idk how a guitar tuner would take a .080 since its getting pretty close to bass territory lol im sure it would work great for the F# and probably even could do drop E.

  • Have you thought about getting the ATX 8? I'm debating between the atx and hellraiser, i have a atx c-7 and love it, but i hear 808 sound tons better than the 8 string blackouts. any experience with them?

  • @ahub2010 No experience with the 8 string models, but I prefer the 7 string blackouts over the 707's. I can't imagine the 8 string versions would be much different. If anything they would be a better fit since it would be a true bridge and neck combo.

  • love your setup man! whoop line 6! what one you have?? i can't think of it atm lol it's 4 am O.o

  • How much was it? I'm thinking about this one or the Ibanez RGA-8.

  • @Archeron33

    I think I got it for $920 w/ case.

  • @Archeron33 if you get an RGA-8 change the pickups in it, i have one and the stock pups arent great

  • I just wanna see one guy use this in country that would be hilarious

  • sounds killer witt da HD147...

  • @bchewdown Thanks dude!

  • now is the guitar it self a limited edition or the color? becuase i would seel BOTH of my testicals for this lol

  • @sacredscam Schecter started making 8 strings as limited run models. In 2008 they released a limited run of the black cherry model. Basically, they only made 100 of them. When it sold quick they made 100 of the black and 100 of the white version as well. In 2009 8 strings became a permanent option for the hellraiser and blackjack ATX lines. You can buy this guitar today. I will say that I have never played a hellraiser that was made this well.

  • @prog2djent This may be a dumb question, but have you tried turning down the bass or adjusting any other settings? You can try an OD pedal in front of the amp to see if it helps. OD pedals usually help tighten up the low end, which essentially eliminates some of the bass frequencies and mud. You can also try an EQ pedal in front of the amp.

Is it one 10" speaker or one 12" speaker. That makes a difference and its unclear what you were saying. A 12" speaker is going to handle bass better.

  • Comment removed

  • @prog2djent Settings vary between amps though, but my guess is the speaker size. Do you crank the gain on OD pedals? I barely have any gain turned on with the OD I use.

You are mistaken about Meshuggah. The Spider Valve MK II has only been out for a year or two. The MK 1 didn't come out until like 2007 or 2008 I think. For the longest time Meshuggah used Vetta II's with no cabs going direct out. I believe Catch 33 was recorded entirely in that way. They use Axe-FX now.

  • Comment removed

  • @prog2djent

The only spider I would spend money on is the valve MK II. Supposedly its like a POD with tubes. The spider tones are more lower end. I had a Spider II before the HD147 and the 147 blows it away. Line 6 makes it easy with an 8 string if you have 7's or 6's too. You can set up tones for each.

  • @DarkKnight369 'Spider tones are more lower end' as in cheaper sound, or more bass, i think i know the answer. I'm going to my store in a few days to try the Valve 212, hope it's good, never again will i get a 1 by 12 speaker combo, my amps have been all over the place, playing for 10 yrs, i had a tiddy 10 watt, then a marshall mg 30, then a crate solid state 120 combo, then a hughes and ketter switchblade 50, biggest dissapointment ever, i'd been skeptical about line 6 until the tube range.

  • @prog2djent Yeah, as in cheaper. They are bedroom amps.

  • kwl thick strings then what is the lowest it can be tuned to?

  • @James57433 I think you can maybe get away with low E.

  • Haha I got here by searching "100 string guitar"

  • i like your reviews you should get something that can handle the bass of a 7 and 8 string for recording so people can actually hear what an 8 can really do

  • @eefums I had a line 6 tone port UX 2. I run a Mac with the Snow Leopard OS and line 6 still hasn't come up with an up date for it to work on my Mac. I gave up and sold it. I will get something else down the line.

  • I dont know whether its the setup you have for recording or your amp? But you really dont get the "entire F sharp" experience. Its mostly mud and doesnt sound good. Ive got a killer sub system on my puter......

Im suspecting that you almost need a freakin bass setup to really get it........

Nice guitar....just looses alot in the translation. It actually might need the longer scale to really use the low string.

    Nice review.............

  • @georgwashere I record this with the built in mic and camera on my laptop. I doubt it encompasses anywhere near the entire frequency range. On top of that, I have to ease up on the volume a bit as too much will distort the audio...as a result my tone isn't shinning through like it does at a higher volume range...especially with the F#. My mid range cuts through more as I crank it up.

I think the scale length is fine on this guitar. Blackouts or bare knuckles would help clarity though.

  • how´s the line 6 in your opinion ? :)

  • @Theguitarskater1 awesome.

  • "It could use a little more tightness to be super tight!"

  • @turok0404 i have the 6-string and yes its good for metal, but seriously, just look at it, its for shredding and most people should know that

  • @turok0404 I am sorry, but this is a really dumb question. The whole point of the hellraiser series is for hard rock/metal players.

  • i got the damien elite and dropped the lowest string to E so i have 3 E strings its so fuckin brutal

  • damn that thing roars. but who needs to go that low.SCHECTER FTW even the cheap models kick ass

  • Hey man, is the 26.5 scale lenght too short for the low F#? and does the lowest string get too muddy? and finally, do you plug it into a regular guitar amp? awesome playing, btw!

  • @mcpihvi Did you even watch the video?

  • Great tones. How thick the lowest string is?

  • @truedimebagdarrell As I mentioned n the video, he lowest is a .074.

  • @DarkKnight369 Thx!

  • wow surprised you actually responded..thanks man i'll take your advice but, where could i find/buy a black satin ATX model?

  • @metalmaniac9498 I always try to respond to questions.

Drum City guitar land as the black satin C-8 ATX in stock. I saw it on musician's friend site a while back as well.

  • so is there any diffrence between the cherry, white, or gloss black guitars? or just the colors

  • @metalmaniac9498 @metalmaniac9498

The black cherry has the quilted maple top. Not sure if its a veneer or actual wood that is thick enough to effect tone. The others are just straight up mahogany and rosewood. When I bought this, Schecter 8's were a limited run of 100 black cherry models. They released the other colors and ATX models later based on demand. If I were to buy one right now, I would get the black satin ATX. I think the ebony and blackouts would help the lower notes shine more

  • I have a C-7 and the neck is gigantic on it, I couldn't imagine that one.

  • @MrJHate Its similar, just a tad wider to accommodate the extra string. Feels flatter than Schecter 7's though. Schecter's are not made for people with small hands though, which is why I like them so much. I am a giant and my hands are big.

  • FINALLY someone who shows "why 8 Strings?"! 8 strings is just for drop sound and not for fucking virtuous feminine playing!

    chugging rulez!!! :-)

  • @MadPHiL76 8 strings is for whatever you want it to be for. I really dig the work of bands like Scale the summit, and the lowest note on the one dudes 8 string is B. I have enjoyed the vids of the guys who use 8's for finger tapping rhythm and lead stuff as well. I get what you are saying though, and from the perspective of a metal head, I would want to hear what this beast could do on the low end of the sonic spectrum. Hence, my video.

  • FINALLY i review with a guy chugged on the low strings!!

  • This is either really sarcastic, or a lot of the 8 string reviews out there lack low string chugging.

  • @DarkKnight369

Barely any have any playing like you play. I saw a proguitarshop review and the guy was play jazz on it!

  • @ChetterNugget Yeah, I have seen some of those vids. The Pro Guitar Shop guy demos all their guitars like that and extended range guitars don't seem to be his specialty.

  • @ChetterNugget hahaha, yeah every review i've seen they hardly touch the F#

  • @Ullish1989 F# is too hardcore for some...hahaha.

  • @DarkKnight369 Then why get an "8" string? There's an extra string for a reason, it's to use it =)

  • @FRr3AkOnALEaSh I don't know. I got one to experiment. Still not fully comfortable with it...although it took me a decade to become accustomed to 7 strings.

  • @DarkKnight369 Ah ok. When i transferred from 6 to 7's, i felt right at home. I've been wanting to play one for years. I was using heavy .060's for the low E tuned to a low A, so i was use to heavier strings. When i go into the whelm of 8 string's, does Schecter do the job? I'm stuck between a Schecter C-8 or an Ibanez RG2228 (Or RGA8)?

  • @FRr3AkOnALEaSh Yeah, I had an Ibanez RG7420 for about 8 years. It never felt comfortable to me and I could play it, but it didn't feel as right as 6 string did. I then started tuning the Ibanez in drop A...felt better, but still awkward. I finally sold the Ibanez for the 7 string Schecters I have now. The larger neck and longer scale actually felt more comfortable. 7 become home and 6 was odd now.

Have you looked at Agile 8 string, like the Intrepid pro? What about ESP/LTD?

  • sweet riffing, nice rig. do you play in a band?

  • @dudemac Haven't in a few years.

  • how much did it cost

  • I think I paid $900 with case.

  • @DarkKnight369 New? That's not bad.

  • Phat! Wish you had mic'd the amp properly though.

  • In the future we will have 11 string guitars... With tuning so low only certain types of animals can hear them.

  • @FranklenWylder funny shit

  • @FranklenWylder hahahaha

  • @FranklenWylder And we will use 60 inch scale lengths and 1 inch wide strings.

  • @FranklenWylder if i ever make a guitar, that is what i will make.

  • @FranklenWylder Holy balls lmaooooooooo

    ---

I approve of your guitar playing attire.

  • @FranklenWylder just so that its logical... you do know that animals tend to hear higher pitches beter not lower ones.

  • they already do have em, they sound like shit lol like F#0 @FranklenWylder

  • @FranklenWylder lol id play it man and write the most complex rhythms that youve never heard lol

  • @FranklenWylder They already have them :P check out a band called M.A.N song "Logicide" must cost a bomb!

  • Seymour Duncan does now manufacture 8string AHB-1 (set) ..try google u'll find em on some sites for <$200

  • Yeah I know, but when I made this video they were custom only.

  • from 4:32 to 5:02 if that is just you messing around then shame on you cause that needs to be made into a song! i was just growling some good shit to that

  • Most of what I play in these videos are just me messing around...

  • hey there nice video!!!! xD I have one simple question!Do you think it's worthy of its price???

  • Most definitely. I doubt you can find a better 8 string for the price. This is one of the first 100 Schecter Hellraiser 8's ever made...it was part of the limited run. This thing is built better than any of my other schecters and sounds amazing acoustically compared to other gloss guitars I have played.

  • @DarkKnight369 thank you m8 I appreciate it!!! xD

  • i have my 6 string set up with a 7 string set (56-11)

could i set up a heavy set for a 7 string by doing the same; by making the 6th to 1st on the 7 string the same set i use on my 6 string and a 66 or 68 like an 8th string for the 7th??

  • one of my local shops just got one of these in and it is really nice looking but i cant think when i'd ever use the F# string

  • Yeah, I bought this to experiment with really. It still takes a while to use the F# musically and creatively. Some have tuned it BEADGBEA, adding the high A. Others have tuned it to G which still gives you a higher string, but also something lower than B as well.

I personally like the tone of G better, but I am not sure about the extra high string. For now, I am fine with it in its native tuning.

  • I would love to buy this but afraid it's to wide. Might settle for agile

  • Haven't played the Agiles, but those are nice too. They have a longer scale length which is good for tension, but if you worried about size that might make the fret spacing too awkward for you.

  • Wats the radius of the neck

  • Not sure about the radius. It feels like a Schecter 7 neck that is a bit wider to accommodate the 8th string.

  • My lefty C-8 has the shortened saddle for the F# and the B... it came to me set up REALLY BADLY.

  • The F# saddle should be shortened for proper intonation. I am not sure about the B though. This is a custom hipshot bridge that Schecter requested as intonation with the F# was a problem on guitars without this.

Set up is personal preference, but it usually comes pretty straight from the factory. I always change it as I like a lot of relief in my neck and a bit higher action. Some stores and shops may fiddle with factory set up. Weather and humidity change conditions can mess it up too.

  • can I come over to your house?, finally someone doing a good 8 string demo broootal

  • thanks alot darknight369

  • what battery type does the schecter take

  • All Active pickups take a 9v battery.

  • taking a wild guess but it sounds like you are influenced by dino cazares a lot

  • A little bit, but I don't ever consider myself to be playing in a similar style to him.

  • Nice!! I just traded my C-7 Helraiser for the C-8. I cant wait to get it!!!

  • I hope you have another 7 to play with. 8's are cool, but I personally love 7's...they are my bread and butter.

  • Nope, it was my only one. I've been waiting a long time to play an 8 string. Im a lefty and 8 strings are rare for us... Im sure I'll purchase a 7 string eventually, most likely the Hellraiser V-7!!

  • f-ing great video

Ever tried an eight string RG?

  • Thanks!

Haven't tried one. I had an RG-7420 for 8 years then I sold it. Once I got into Schecter 7's, I lost all interested in the Extended Range Ibanez Guitars.

  • too bad

i still consider ibanez as the greatest brand when it comes to sevenstrings

    only tried a schecter once

  • Their necks cramp my hands. Schecter fits better. The only Ibanez 7 string that truly interested me was the Xiphos. The neck dive is sort of a deal breaker for me though. Plus baritone scale is where it is at for 7 strings.

I also hate floating trems which seems to be the bulk of the bulk of the Ibanez lineup. The sharp corners makes the paint chip if you sneeze at it too.

  • haha ok

Im thinking the exact opposite way XD

  • Yeah. Many find thin necks better, especially on 7's. I can't stand them. My big meat hooks need something to hold onto.

  • funny

    i have really huge hands

my ibanez has a pretty wide neck tho

  • my 7420 felt line the strings were too close together or something..it hurt to play for extended periods.

  • ah i play like 6 hours a day

    never had that problem...

  • My hands would probably be in better shape if I played 6 hours a day....or even more than the 1-2 hours a week I play now. Using a keyboard and mouse for 8-10 hours a day doesn't help either.

  • hahaha

    i guess so

  • Yeah. Really I think when it comes to guitars for me, the bigger, the better. Playing 6 strings just feels too weird and awkward for me anymore. I would be willing to give Ibanez another look in the future if they had something without the floating trem and with a baritone scale. If I ever see any of the 8's in a store I will for sure give it a try.

  • know what? go to ibanez website and look up the RGA8

  • I saw that when it was announced. Its definitely an improvement over the RG2228, but I am still not all that interested. If I ever see one in the store I will definitely give it a whirl.

  • 1 to 2 hrs a WEEK! I would go insane...

  • Only so much time out of work that I have to balance between guitar, video games, my creative side business, and maintaining a house.

  • thank you for doing the clean notes at the end. im always anxious to hear how an 8 string does on the clean channels rather than hear the chug chugs all the time. but dont get me wrong, chugs are good as well.

  • Not a problem.

There is a video of a guy who is doings all clean + effects with finger tapping on a C-8 Blackjack ATX. Its pretty sweet. I can't remember the name of the guy whose video it was though.

  • Is the Hellraiser's EMG's better than the BlackJack ATX's Blackouts? im trying to choose between those two guitars and i have no idea what is better...im more of a shredder and ive heard nothing but good from both pickups...
