it would have been better if u have used a heat gub cuz the temp will b higher and help take those bubbles out, also u would have to lift n re- apply the vinyl n smoosh it as u apply it on to what ever you want. its fun to do but time consuming. small pices will b easier then a hood, truck, roof etc
ive been working with carbon fibre, and as a tip for you guys who whana do it yourselves this is the easyest and cheapest way to go, will never look 100% carbonfibre but you can do it on your own and sont need a Autoclav machine for like 100 000 euros.
I have a carbon fiber hood on my Wrx and the car was in an accident and now has 3 stress marks. Is there anything I can do to get it fixed? Not just putting the Carbon fiber sticker over it or whatever
this will be a short video as my battery is about to die,, yet 2 mins in and we've only just started!! lol..
Tip for anyone thinking of adempting this is use a tiny bit of washing up liquid in water and lightly dab into across the surface your going to be wrapping, dont worry it will stick and all the water will come out when you squeegy the vinyl onto the surface....
it just makes in so much easier to move about and it'l stop you getting bubbles in the vinyl!! i dont know if this guy used this method as after 2 mins i got bored! wrote this and moved on...
dude i really appreciate this vid, it looks tight, but seriously i will watch this vid repeatedly just to listen to you complain about the awesome job you did, hilarious.
nice video dude, that sort of shit is real hard and time consuming.I've done quite a few decals an stuff, and if you mix up a weak mixture of dishwashing liquid and water in a spray bottle and then wet down the sticky side of the vinyl, you can slide it around a bit.then you just squegee the excess water out until it drys, and ,Bob your uncle.
A hair dryer is all you'll really need. I'm using my heat gun on low and it's still pretty hot. This stuff is really forgiving when it comes to bubbles also. I'm doing some interior pieces on my car now. The concave pieces are the hardest to do. I found some ABS plastic surface primer/prep, the Di-Noc sticks pretty well when it's fresh and cold, but you don't want to over work it or else you'll be fighting a losing battle. Gonna have to re-do one of my panels now.
i have a real carbon fiber hood and i was thinking since its like 5 years old and faded maybe just wrap it in carbon fiber wrap so it looks new again lol
@jonzo22 I have real carbon on my bike as well as the fake stuff. Google search "how to restore carbon fiber" or "how to polish." They sell stuff that will fix it right up.
if you have more complicated shap you will never get it right because it will not stretch enough.i did mirror and side panel for zx14,have a look and give feedback, real carbon fibre is hard and this is only wrap so no compare
Okay like the video alot, but however you should know that the carbon fiber vinyl is supposed to simulate DRY carbon fiber, that piece you compare is "WET" carbon fiber. Long story short...WET has a layer of resin that makes it smooth and "wet" looking.
wrap you plastics in real cf and send it to get cleared. This 3M Vinyl is cool but when you R6 warms up in a hot day that vinyl is going to start to bubble or peal off man...it sucks trust me..lol
i totally agree. when i say the first wrapped item i was like damn, that looks like shit. But this guy in the vid is really cool and owns up to his mistakes. and i totally agree with what he say's about paying for real CF totally not worth it. My props go out to ZstarOdustE tho, all you gotta do is spend some more time with vinyl and you'll get the hang of it, i did.
Try using a credit card if you don't have a squeegee and use your hair dryer to heat up the air bubble areas then squeegee in the air bubbles. Hope this helps. Goodluck with perfecting it.
Speaking of the real and fake carbon stuff, I think it really depends on how closely you look at the thing. From a distance, you couldn't tell if it's vinyl or real. But in Hong Kong (where I live), even real carbon gets underrated to vinyl. Take my car hood as an example.
@motorolaq9m I high sided, it was totally my fault. I was entering a Hair pin turn and honestly thought I could rush myself into the turning point entry & I paid the price for my ego. I repaired everything as good as new and learned a valuable lesson. The bike is great BTW the only thing that sucks about it, is if you do a 6 hour plus ride it isn't very comfortable.
@motorolaq9m get a Supermoto, like a KTM 690 sm, smc or an R. I got an 848 as my first bike and I loved it, but is not as fun on the st as a supermoto, Its also fast in the track. Its a very forgining bike so you can mess up and recover somewhat easy and if you do go down nothing really breaks on these bikes.

If you have like a panel made out of plastic, and want it to be out of carbon fiber, how much would it cost to have someone make it?

carbon fiber is lighter
grkpk123 1 week ago
For parts this small sometimes Real carbonfiber is heavier & offers no weight savings. So often it's just for the look really. IMO
ZstarOdustE 1 week ago
carbon fibra is not about the looks! its about the weight reduction ;)

@gsxr1300fan123 Many people just like the look of carbon fiber.
I do.

And yeah.. There's no sense in me paying $200+ for c/f interior accents and it'd prolly be a pita to do it myself.
