Please tell us more about Katheryn Connell! I've loved her voice and laugh on this record for decades and have always wondered whose it was. Thank you for giving the solution to the mystery.
I still have the 45 of this. Thanks for posting it since my record player is in storage :) My late sister and I used to laugh so much listening to this, such great memories!
OMG, I remember this record! My brother and I used to hear listen to this and "I Need a Vacation" as kids back in the 60's. I think we got the record in one of those "grab bags" filled with 45 records that Woolworth's used to sell for 25 cents. Ahhh, the good ole days! Glad to find we didn't just imagine it all. We also thought the woman's voice was Phyllis Diller. Thanks for posting!
Not Phyllis Diller. She's answered that question many times but the legend persists. Backus said it was a studio extra. In typical 50s tradition, they did not write down her name.
I've heard the "friend " is Hermione Gingold ...and also Della Reese...?? Doesnt sound like HG to me ...She was in "GiGi" British you know ...Hilarious to hear her (their) laughter again !!
Jim Backus was born on this date in 1913. {Feb. 25th}
Sadly, Mr. Backus passed away on July 3rd, 1989... May he R.I.P.

The actress on this is Hermione Gingold. The instrumental backing is by Appleknocker and His Group.

That woman is defiantly not Phillis Diller. It is my grandmother Katheryn Connell.
End to this mystery.

This was actually a top-40 hit in 1958 - not 1959. Great New Years Eve song though in any year.

I can hear some inspiration for Austin Powers, in the way the guy laughs in this.
