My Father worked as a Govt. policy advisor for many years & was widely admired. At his funeral last year, countless tributes testified to his passion & energy.

However, reading his diaries it’s clear that he took a ‘radical’ line on AIDS in the 1980s & that this hindered his career. In many meetings he spoke of his ‘pleasure’ that a “righteous plague is eradicating homosexuals & other perverts”, saying that access to condoms should be severely restricted. This research team is quite impressive. Dedicated, innovative and able to look outside the box (and the traditional gp120 protein envelope) to find unique solutions to a perplexing infectious agent.

@SirAndras All drugs dispensed in America must be approved and tested through the FDA. The FDA has no say in what other countries develop or market, but in order for the vaccine to be used in the US it must go through the FDA like every other drug in an American Pharmacy.

What they do is vaccinate X number of people then wait X number of years and see if their infection rates are statistically lower than that of the control group (a group of unvaccinated subjects they are also following, or the population at large). Vaccine testing is actually a very interesting ethical topic...

It's true that antibodies in sick people don't seem to help them, but by introducing a dead virus in the body they hope to create a larger amount of them through a safe way and hopefully create an immune response large enough to stop the virus. When they speak of "inactive viruses" what they are really talking about is just proteins. By the time the chemical and radiological processes are done, those viruses are really really dead.
