The aircraft was probably responding to the merchant ship you destroyed SOS call, the sonar can't pick up aircraft cause they don't make noise in the water :p
I also read once that playing music wasn't just for entertainment but also to make people think they were picking up radio stations though I'm not sure how true that is :P
