@suntbelgae Observe how this guy fired the thing, the recoil looks crazy yes but in all reality it was completely safe the round left the tube before recoil had even took effect. Also he didn't let it recoil onto his body so he didn't get any bruises and it shouldn't be so hard to point a tube at close range. Stop being a, "I think I know every thing dick hole". What do you mean how to NOT fire a mortar? They train rangers to do this and sometimes they go on missions with a mortar in their crew. Direct firing a mortar brings huuuge amounts of firepower to your side. They usually only use the smaller mortars for this job but even those do twice the damage of a 40mm grenade out of a launcher.

Yeah, I heard of WW2 Japanese "knee mortars" which were supposed to be placed either on the ground or against a tree. Some GI's tried firing them while braced against their leg/knee, resulting in broken bones. Anyways, I'd like to try hipshooting the 60mm from the video too ... just to say I had done it.

60mm mortar, charge zero, only one who's going to get hurt in him, and then probably only a sore hand and bruised leg. Lighten up people. BTW, the 60mm mortar is designed to be fired in "handheld" configuration at charge 0, though the base plate should normally be on the ground with the gunners foot on the back of the plate. Charge 0 doesn't recoil too much. Now it he'd tried that charge one, he'd probably be pretty messed up.
