I saw these guys back in 1976 or something...it was a Blondie concert at the Beacon in Manhattan. Mitch Ryder opened up and Gordon and Wray came on second. I liked Blondie but these guys did if for me so sick.
I read in a Link Wray obit that he claimed of himself to be too slow to be a whiz on guitar, so he had to invent a sound...well, he look pretty much a whiz to me in this clip. He's up there with the best!!!
NO DOUBT, I used to be such a fan of rock a billy in high school, in 98 I read in the
paper he was performing, I didn't even have an idea he was still alive, IT WAS LIKE SEEING A REAL LIVE 50'S ROCKER, I must tell you I was three feet off the floor, plus in his third song there was a fight on the floor, and turned to his band so electified, "were not sticking to this set", what a show , he actually let a few guys play on stage with his guitar filling in, never forget it and what a rocker
i met link in santa cruz. he put me on the guest list for his show in chico ca. he was the coolest, nicest, friendliest person on the planet. he spent hours discussing music and film with me. he let me take a shit load of photos of him and his wife. he autographed a ton of things for me. if you ask me he invented true rock n roll.
And for some reason Chuck Berry get's all the credit. Music wouldn't be where it is today without the likes of Link Wray, and Dick Dale, and Robert Gordon.
@skrimpshidy amen brother. elvis and chuck berry are way over rated. rumble was the first rock song ever. it still freaks me out today its so hardcore. can you imagine hearing that song back in 1957/1958
@gittahfiend Check your history man. Link Wray made the power chords mr Berry popular (some say invented), Not to mention inventing distortion when he punched holes in his speakers. Chuck berry didn't invent squat, he was just more popular.
@gittahfiend LOL, It wasn't Chuck Berry that Inspired the Stones in the first place. Maybe Chuck did double note leads, and that's great. Link couldn't play lead very well most of the time. However, without Link there would be No Rock N Roll. LOL, We can argue back and forth forever, but, I'll give you a concession,,,,,, Rock N Roll wouldn't have been as popular without Chuck Berry. Sad fact, Most people never heard of Link Wray. Rest Assured, Chuck Berry knew exactly who he was.
@skrimpshidy hey,anybody that loves or knows rock-n-roll KNOWS that link was a TRUE pioneer that had great r&r technique till he left the planet.His playing kept him young.and may I say you have class as well !
Tarantino didn't pick this song...Oliver Stone did. The original screenplay that QT wrote only states that a rockabilly song plays during the diner scene, it's not specific. Tarantino had absolutely nothing to do with the production of the film once Stone got involved.

I'll correct myself here. Howie Wyeth was the drummer on the first three records!

Yeah, it is Anton fig playing drums here which is odd because the drummer on the first two records during this period (77',79') was Howie Wyeth.

@skrimpshidy that's because Chuck berry INVENTED rock-n-roll guitar.THAT'S why
