  • I'm sorry to be blut, but this look pretty home made compared to PowerPoint 2010. Just find a demo video for "powerpoint 2010 transitions".

  • @PowerTorsk The difference being OpenOffice is free.

  • You can done all these effect in OpenGL using Processing. Pretty easy.

  • @FizzyWodawg i was wrong there ... thanks for pointing that out!! and about the PS3,,, I have read in many sites that the PS3 is the hardest platform to program also making it harder to port games.. not cause of DX/OpneGL but because each of the Cell processor PSE´s need individual programing...

  • From what I know, OpenGL is with the GPU, and DirectX is with software. Hope that sounds right, didnt know how to word it lol

  • Why are people comparing OpenGL and DirectX? OpenGL is purely a GRAPHICS LIBRARY. DirectX, however, is a whole collection of different APIs for multimedia purposes like sound, input and, yes, graphics (Direct3D).

  • @Drondh I think you dont understand DX10 and OpenGL much. DX10 is meant for gaming and for windows and xbox. We all know how many games are available for mac and linux. In that sense, yes, DX10 is a 1000 times better, both hardwarewise and for graphics. But for things like this, OpenGL is really good because its cross platform.

  • :/ The cube ones look like crap. The projection must be orthographic or at least with a super-low field-of-view angle. There's barely any difference in perspective between the outside and inside cube.

  • can you make a tutorial video on how to get this, please

  • SICK TRANSITIONS DAWG

  • it needs some ai - anti aliasing

  • OO.org > MSO

  • OpenGL is LIFE

  • dude these are so much better than office transitions

  • I guess this is made using the old fixed pipeline (OpenGL 1.x) so it will work on computers without a proper GPU. The effects might be limited because of this. Nothing fancy, but it does the job :-)

  • haha these are terrible, how can they run so crappy off the GPU

  • @IPUNCHEDALION Maybe it's the Java VM layer.

  • open source rules!?!?!?!

  • Very impressive. It does look kind of choppy though. Is that an artefact of the video capture or encoding process, or is it really that choppy?

  • @CaptainChaos artefact of the capture

  • iLife actually does things Impress will not (like "keyframed" animations).

Still, no need to troll here even if i'm a Mac Fanboy myself. I do use Linux as well and are grateful that i have OOo there, plus i have friends that foolishly stick to Windows... it is nice that i can give them a nice and legal office suite when they ask me to get them MS Office and it is better than MS Office too, imho.

  • simplemente increibes

  • here are some more open office videos...

    freecomputertutor (dot) net

  • open office... is FREE you retards...

  • Great for a program that is free!

  • gpo4b

  • you can do most of it with the ilife 09'

  • That sounds like it costs money, though.

  • you mean iLife for Windows or Linux?

  • Yeah, but these are useless when you have to convert them to powerpoints so people without OO can see them.

  • OpenGL but not 3d

  • OpenGL doesn't make a distinction between 2D and 3D.

2D is just 3D with the z coordinates locked.

  • Not working in Openoffice 3....

  • cool stuff

  • Why are they wasting their time on this guff when they should be fixing basic annoyances like the table of contents bugs or the fact that you can't even insert a single landscape page without a plugin?!

  • A lot of those are very cool, while some look very easy to do that I can probabaly make quickly. My favorite is probabaly revolving circles.

  • I don't care what anyone says. Direct X 10 is no where near better than OPEN GL. OPEN GL pwns the hell out of Direct X

  • i bet you have never thrown a line of code in your entire life in neither of those 2 frameworks

  • Just because I don't know how to program it doesn't mean I don't know any better. All direct X has over Open GL is that it is a little faster.

  • Ok, you just stated that "Direct X 10 is no where near better than OPEN GL" and now you're saying "it is a little faster". Not to mention before you didn't even state what was so great about OpenGL. DirectX is a different type of API then OpenGL. Direct3D is the one that can be compared to OpenGL. OpenGL interacts directly with the GPU, Direct3D uses a wrapper instead. The only major thing OpenGL has on Direct3D is that it can be easily Ported to other Operating Systems with little code change.

  • It was my OPINION in the first comment. Thats why I took the time to say "I don't care what everyone else says."

  • @UbuntuLee: Everything for it's use. DirectX as an API is far superior to anything out there. That's a fact. I wish I had the same features in OpenGL. BUT.. that does not mean you cannot achieve the same thing in OpenGL. OpenGL vs DX is choosing between software that wraps yout graphics drivers. Nothing more.

  • DirectX works only under Windows and the XBOX SDK.

So, if you want to tie yourself to a corporation that has demonstrated a 30 year antagonistic relationship with the entire software development industry, go ahead.

  • I think the presenter crowd is always looking for an edge. They all know ppt and keynote so some new transitions can be that edge. Plus in openoffice, you could hire your own person to create whatever effects you can think up. The talk about DX10 or OpenGL doesn't matter to the market for this product. It being rock-solid and practical does.

  • Does it come with OOo by default or do you need to install it separately on OOo Ninja web-site?

And do you need a GPU for that?

  • OpenGL is better graphicly then DX10. DX10 is faster then OpenGL on a base level.

OGL is cross platform meaning other OS's like Linux can be in the scope while DX is developed by Windows and is not available for any other OS.

OpenGL Shaders faster then DX10 does.

  • Comments on youtube are always correct. Anybody with 1337 in their name can be trusted.

spiderbyte1337 is a really cool guy. eh knows about opengl and d3d and doesn't afraid of anything.

  • i dont like you

  • spikedgav gb2/b/

  • OpenGL is the closet you can get to the actual video hardware. Many OpenGL functions directly translate to GPU opcodes. Direct3D is actually in a way a wrapper around OpenGL, and OpenGL tends to outperform Direct3D for this reason.

  • What do you mean by a wrapper around openGL? Does DX actually use openGL commands? Also I thought that dirX is better on ati cards since their drivers are more geared towards drirectX (that's what I find anyways).

  • Are you a moron? It's obvious that you haven't done any serious OpenGL programming yet. You make bold statements based on nothing. Where is the proof of those statements?

  • at least on the lowest level opengl is faster because opengl has a lower function-overhead.

  • Lol I do Know ,Dx is more user/dev friendly but it sucks graphicly. Thats why for instance ps2 games even though the ps2 had a whole lot less power ,looked just as good and even better then most xbox games. The First max payne on the pc blew anything that was DX away. And the ps3 will thanks to openGL blow anything on xbox 360 away.....It's seems you're the kid you dont knwo shit about games development

  • Uncharted! drake fortune ,you idiot. God of war 2 and final fantasy 12 look better then most xbox games! Also okami looked very good.

  • Lol Apple keynote does that easily and way better... thats nothing new!

  • dude put that on powerpoint!

  • wtf?? Whats the point?

  • lol

  • these all scream "cheap"

  • free*

  • i like the circles

  • open office is free.

  • At least, it is not as bad as Office 2007. They changed too much too quickly and they don't allow you to get classic menus by default. In this case, OOo 3 > Office 2007.

  • I will switch back to Openoffice as SOON as they develop a grammar/spelling checker that rivals the one in MS office.

  • Their spell check is good already, but grammar checkers are useless, compared to proofreading yourself. Yes, you can customize MS Office's grammar check, but again it will not help you write very strong articles, stories, or anything a word processor does.

  • And you believe that the MS grammar check is any better?

  • no, I think proofreading yourself is best.

  • i wouldn't install this, but i'd like this for microsoft office. sorry, but i still like their better.

  • the keynote for mas does the best cube

  • trippy shit its good mon

  • Not that impressive ,but it's ok ;-) Open Office is free so it's worth it.

  • Hey, nice background music; what's it's name?

  • From the article: Cellule by Silence. I tried posting the links, but YouTube is being difficult

  • I love when MacHeads feel threatened :)

    Guess who is copying who?

  • Lets all copy keynote 3 and call it original

  • "eskimayo knows best"

  • Not all that impressed!
