  • dude this is awesome! great...thanks

  • you are getting violent with the bass :P

    i enjoy your vids.:)

  • i have the same bass

  • dk,

i see you using jazz basses most of the time. this is the first video i've seen you playing a stingray, do you prefer the j basses? i'm trying to decide.

    thanks so much.

  • to btn13:

    Yes i prefer jazz basses

  • Are you plucking from right to left?

  • to flemming:

    right to left?

  • ring-middle-index-thumb as oppose to thumb-index-middle-ring as I think Gary Willis does...

  • to flemmin:

90 % of the time I actually only play with thumb and index - "downbeat" with thumb and "upbeat" with index (alternative to a pick with downstroke - upstroke). But when i do use more fingers its thumb, middle and index (triples) and thumb, ring, middle and index (really fast 16'ths)

  • Okay.. I ask because I do it the other way which seems way easier to me to avoid getting my hand curled up too much. It is as if the ring-finger gets closer to my palm when going from right to left than my index does when going from left to right. If you know what I mean?

  • cool!

hey marlowe, what gauge strings are you using?

  • to maturanesa:

    45 -105 standard gauge

  • oooooof see you have every bass that i would only dream of having dude

i`m getting a jazz bass thoguh.

    i love your playign.

  • cool stuff ! but where is you Ali Baba cave of jewels gonna end ??

  • to Zak:

    Meaning?

  • I mean the Cave of Ali Baba and the 140 Thieves, with all the treasures inside and that magically opens when you say "cave, open up !". All your postings are like treasures from that cave, and from the Pandora Box that is also a kind of magic mysterious thing ;o) that when it opens it unleashes all the treasures inside... aaaaah, a little bit of lyricism from time to time, 'tween the grooves...

  • to Zak:

    :-)

  • marlowe, do you have a band cause if you do it would be cool if you could put some videos up

  • for some reason i don't the he does. i believe he said he doesn't even have an amp.

  • thats true, he doesnt.

  • to snapshot:

But look at my info for bandinfo. I dont use an amp on videos only the Korg pandora, but live live i use an Ashdown solid state amp with Peavey cabs

  • ohooo Peavey cabs ! One of the bass tones that mostly blew me away some 6-7 years ago was the one from Faith No More's bassist Bill Gould: he was using huge Peavey cabs... Another killer bass tone was the one from Robbie Shakespeare when I saw him play with Peter Tosh back in 1981, a hofner beatle bass and a wall of ampegs - fuckin' awesome that was !!!

  • Look at some of his really old videos.

  • interesting this looks alot like a Dominique di Piazza techinque

  • to woolly:

Yeah forgot to mention him :-)

  • So the technique is using your thumb as a pick, and using alternating fingers? cool though, i'ma try it out ;o)

  • Its basically thumb and first finger and a lot of raking. Initially inspired by Abe Laboriel and recently Damien Erskine (theres some videos of his explaining this tech)

  • aah okey, for example Abe Laboriels "Guidum". it's cool stuff, i like the spanish sounding style you can use with it :)

  • You never stop amazing me, Marlowe.

How long have you been playing?

  • on and for 30 years but with year long breaks in between

  • nice one marlowe yet again!!!!!!!
