It's so cool when Letterman comes out of his usual "talk show host" persona and gets into real discussions with the guests he admires. There aren't many - Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, etc. - but it's great when it happens.

For me, Tarantino and Scorsese can no longer be compared. Tarantino is the king of homage, of playing on our nostalgia of genres. Scorsese has been branching out to biopics and action thrillers, though not ones that are as homage-like. Hard to compare them.

Scorsese is simply the greatest director working today, even though his work since Casino has been very flawed. To say that Tarantino isn't as great as Scorsese says nothing about the talent of QT: the man is the greatest filmmaker of the past 20 years, with Pulp Fiction being the single greatest movie made in that period. KB and Death Proof were shit, but so was Color of Money and Shutter Island.

Natural Born Killers, Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown are great and influential pictures.

Yeah- i think sometimes people like all those 3 just because of the guns and violence etc in all their movies- but from an actual cinematic point of view theyre all totally different, and scorcese is waaaaay ahead of the others :)
