  • i really love your channel! my mother always kept her korean recipes a secret... i really don't know why...but as a young girl i watched her very closely, and could copy any thing she made by memory and a good sense of taste. she was shocked when she tasted my food and told me not to tell anyone how i made the food...guess what mom...too bad!

  • WHat is the difference between odeng and uhmook bokkum?

oh btw that is sooooo good with some potatoes! yum making me hungry

  • @AnotherMACfreek odeng and uhmook are the same.

  • This is my favorite side dish!! yum i am going to ask my mom to make it now

  • where do usually get the ingredients ????

  • Hello again, Maangchi! I did it! I cooked uhmook bokkeum and everyone loved it! :) I'm supposed to take a picture of the dish so I can send it to your website but when I came back my friends were eating it already, it was gone in minutes! Thanks so much, Maangchi. I'm definitely going to cook this again (and have lots of rice ready) but make sure I have the camera with me next time (=^-^=)

  • @kansai062281 lol, thank you for your update! Congratulations on your successful Korean cooking!

  • Hello Maangchi! I finally have all the ingredients for this recipe :) I'm really, really excited to cook this! One thing though, do I need to keep the remaining hot pepper paste in the fridge? (I bought a big one and I don't know if it's ok or not to keep it in the fridge...)

  • @kansai062281 yes, keep it in the fridge. That's what I'm doing. Good luck with making delicious uhmook bokkeum!

  • Hi! Maangchi

I love spicy food so much!!!! And what do you mean by "roasted" sesame seeds? I have to roast the sesame seeds before I use it?? Thank you so much!!!! Always love your channel so much!!!!

  • @iaccik no, you don't have to. Get roasted sesame seeds instead raw sesame seeds. If you buy raw sesame seeds, you have to roast it.

  • @KISTOVI Let me know how it turns out. Good luck with Korean cooking!

  • @112deepblue cool! Thank you for your update!

  • I love fried fishcake...

  • I love fish cake me and mom buys it all the time at the farmers market its so good

  • HI! I love seeing K-food, They all look delicious. I've tried kimchi. But I'm looking fora dish that's in a stick and it's white color. It kinda looks like a skin, but I don't think so. It's white colored in a skewer. Any idea what that is? I would like to try it.

  • I don't know what it is, but if you want to discuss more about the food you tasted, leave your question "general discussion" on the forum on my website. Someone else may give you the answer. Please give more detailed description about the food there. : main ingredient, flavor, spice...

  • Thanks for the reply Maangchi, Actually the one I was telling is you is that I've seen it in most korean novela, and mostly it's sold in the streets over w/ a drink of soju. (if that could help) It's white in a skewer and it looks like it's dip in a broth or something liquid, dunno the ingredient but the color was white, and it's arranged in spiral form in a skewer.

  • @ misyelnald

The only Korean food I know of that's on a skewer is fish cake. The 'batter' is white, but when it's deep fried, it turns golden brown. It is in the shape of a cylinder and is on a skewer. Could this possibly be the food you're mentioning?

  • @misyelnald is it ddukbokki? o.o I think in Korea...the street vendors use it to like poke it and give it to the customer, not sure, =X

  • I love fish cake. It is my favorite Korean side dish. I have seen other ways to make it. What other ways can you flavor the fish cake? Thanks! ^^v

  • oh god im drooling XD :O~~~

  • y don u put salt in it ?

  • Fish cake is a little salty enough by itself, so you don't have to use salt.

  • you are so lovely :)

  • Can I make this with shrimp instead?? Looks sooo good!!!

  • shrimp sounds good! why not?

  • heey maangchi I can only find frozen fish balls? Can I use them?

and Can I use corn sirup when I'm frying beef? And for what else can I use corn sirup?

    thanks byulanamie

  • Hi, yes, thaw the frozen fish cakes before using. You can replace corn syrup with sugar.

  • how much sugar do we put innit?

  • I posted the written recipe and tips on my website. Thank you!

  • I have bought spicy fish cakes at a local Korean Market but I've always wanted to make them myself. Now I can! One thing I would like to try is to make the fissh cake first though. Have you ever done this before?

  • i have always wondered what do fish cakes taste like and do it have a good texture?

  • yeah, it's a little chewy.

  • hahaha i'm so excited again with this recipe.. i'm going to cook again but i don't like spicy haha..

what if i don't have corn syrup? any alternatives? :D hehe

  • Corn syrup will make this dish shiny and a little sweet, but if it's not available, use sugar.

  • hotttt

  • hi ma'am maangchi, did you study culinary? :D

  • No, I didn't! If you are interested in who I am, check my about page on my website.

  • i love these fish shapes, normally i just make soup out of them w chicken stock. never thought of stir frying them though... thanks for the idea.

  • You are very welcome!

  • easy to understand.thanks

  • hey, I love your korean accent, actually I am foreigner student in korea, and I love to try ur recipes! thx

  • Why are you playing that song in the background?! 2:13 " The KKK took my baby away...took my baby away from me..." What the heck?!

  • it is another funny song by the ramones.

don't be that serious to that great band!

    :)

  • I'm only 12 and im happily watching your videos as i find them interesting .. ^-^ . I learned how to make 계란 말이 from you .. And it turned out great! ^-^ .

    Thanks! Maangchi fighting! ^_^

  • uhmmm... yummy..

  • ahhhhhh you're making me drool again!! ^^

  • Hi:] i no this is random, but i was curious, what do u do for a living?

  • Maangchi....great dish....never tried it yet...looks good. Just love it spicy...too bad I don't see it at some of the Korean Kareoka bars in Hawaii.

Great for pupus when drinking beer!

  • did you buy the fishcakes frozen? I know the Korean market in my neighborhood has some frozen fishcakes for soup. Should I boil them before stir frying? or just defrost in the refrigerator?

  • just defrost it before cooking. Check the written recipe on my website if you like to make this dish.

  • Thanks! :3

  • o-o That looks really good :D.. I have to try this! Just asking, but is the chili pepper a must in the dish? Because, I really don't like it..

  • oh, yeah? Instead of chili pepper, use just 1 tbs of soy sauce. I wrote about the tip in the video and my written recipe. Check the detailed recipe on my website! Thank you

  • Thank you. :]!!

  • Maangchi, I'm so glad that I discovered you on youtube. I used to always beg my Korean friends at school for their mom's kimchi recipe. Surprisingly they got very annoyed at me when that became a daily routine. Thank you so much for saving my friendship and posting these authentic recipes that I crave. When I found your videos I was instantly hooked and did not move untill I watched every one. I'm a vegetarian and apricate your efforts to cater to them. (contiuned)

  • thank you for the nice comment. Good luck with your Korean cooking!

  • Thank you maangchi!

  • Maangchi,

I like the recipe, I am going to try it.

    I have some question:

What do Korean mothers eat after delivery baby? Is there certain food that she must eat? and for how long?

    Thank you.

  • Korean mothers eat miyukguk for about 1 month after having a baby. I have posted the recipe. Check it out.

  • Another good thing to eat after a baby is hobakjuk (squash porridge) It helps the body release the extra fluids in the body. Maangchi has a recipe for it listed.

  • SnowLyte, porridges, like walnut, avalon, miyuk, spinich, broccoli, onion, mushroom, etc., without sugar, are good.

Pig feet or pork soup help the mothers to produce more milk. boiled whole pumkin water(soup?) helps the body release the swells. ^^

  • love your videos!

  • Thank you!!

  • I love the simplicity of this! i really want to try it and I am one of those people that doesn't like spicy! Is there anything I could replace the chili peppers with?

    Thanks for the vids!

  • Hi Maangchi.. I am interested in Korean culture as well as the dishes.. therefore i am so thankful, that u provide your video for free on youtube.. I really enjoyed it..!

I have a question.. do u perhaps know the recipe of making the fish cake itself (odeng and its soup, which is sold in street vendors?)

And because u have posted this recipe, it remembers me to a dish that i trully like "nakji bokkeum" .. that would be my request recipe..^-^ if u have time, could u perhaps make it? thx

  • sure! The recipe for fish cake soup and spicy stir-fried octopus with vegetables (nakjibokkeum) will be posted someday,

Check my "stir-fried squid" dish recipe. I'm sure you will like the recipe as long as you are interested in nakjibokkeum. (nakji is small octopus in Korean)

    you have great hair!

  • This one look rather easy. But, I'm wondering, can you replace that spicy hot pepper paste? And by what if possible. I don't like spicy stuff. It can be lightly spicy, which is OK, but not too much.

  • 1 tbs of soy sauce instead of hot pepper paste. I wrote in in the video. yes, it's a very easy recipe!

  • YUM!!!

  • What's happening?!!!!

  • ill try to make it if i find fish cakes ;)
