I think of BMW as a luxury auto company, like mercedes and jaguar. All three companies make fast cars that handle great, but I wouldn't say the companies make purely sport cars or super cars. A sports car company ( in my opinion ) is more like Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini. I own a 02 BMW M5, and I'm not sure I like how BMW has focused their attention. The newer M5 model has sucked for the past 7 years, though the new one should make up for that. And the M3 is no longer worth the money.

SUV has become a bad word. the BMW X5 is one of the best cars you can get these days no matter how much money you want to spend. The reason why SUVs got a bad name is the recent state of the US car business. silly useless dinosaurs like Yukon, Tahoe and such gas guzzling monstrosities. They dont handle offroad, they dont go fast and arent strong. They are just big and outdated. They cant really be compared to the likes of BMW X5, Volvo XC90 or even Porsche Cayenne. These are all great cars.

my question is really for all auto makers. i recently watched the video on the volt and the host said that they had to go into the wind tunnel to get the volt to be able to actually do the 40mile range i believe the host said that they dont really need to do that for a full gas car because it will just use more gas. maybe i miss intermediated that but it sounded like they dont care about gas consumption. it brought me to the quistion why are we advertising fuel efiiciant engines and not fuel....
efficient aerodynamics. from my stand point aerodynamics made the viper faster and Honda offers a package on the s2k that has "improved areo". I think it make more sense to make the car perform better WHILE using less or just as much fuel to move it. the flex is supposedly decent mileage on the highway because of simple things like a closed front grill. and Honda's have a closed grill on all of their cars. less make things less complicated. is it harder to make a grill or an engine.....

One question to all car maker. Why is there not a circle plate and a ball place under every car seat now. That is an ignorant comment. If you own an SUV (or any car that costs $30k+) "Gas Gulper" then $5 gas is a piss in the wind. Those aren't the people complaining about gas prices, the lower class is.
That's not my point. You can easily buy a 1-year-old full size SUV for less than $30k. Probably even less now. What I'm saying is there is still market demand for SUVs, although it's lessened recently. So someone shopping for a large vehicle for whatever reason isn't going to jump at the chance to buy one of the less efficient and lower quality American SUVs when they can afford a European or even an Asian models that beats them hands down.
To the car manufacturer, I would want to know why do you produce a car, truck, or suv and say how good it is, get the best car of the year award, then put a 100,000 mile warranty on it and I just happen to use that warranty at around 2,000 miles, and again at 4,600 miles, then again at 12,000 miles then again at 15,000 miles. I mean I don't own a ZR1 or Viper but I hope that they have better engineering than the rest of the manufacturer line.

Horrible gas mileage. I forget the real numbers and too tired to look it up, but if you have the power boost key in and run the car full throttle, you can go from full to empty on your gas gauge in like 18 minutes...

a while ago there was solor power cars being tested. I think VW had a huge project with it, but could be wrong. Plug in is just easier and more reliable. Especially with cars like the lightening that charges in 10 minutes.
The viper acr beating the zr1 or anything around the ring for that matter is completely meaningless to me, and should be to anyone else for that matter. Its cool, dont get me wrong ... fast 'ring times are always cool, but saying that the ACR shattered the ZR1's ring record is just like saying a Ferrari F1 car shattered a ford focus' record. Put that much race kit on anything and you no longer have what I would consider a road car.

To me, they need to get out of the board room and hear the customer and see the competition. Why are they being beat out, and not only match it, but beat it!! Bimmer should shelve some of these suv idea's; I'd love to see the csl, but if you toke the extra money they would charge for the csl and put some extra tuning into the car I doubt there'd be that big of a difference. Whatever they do I hope they don't scrap the cs concept I have a feeling they're just going to use some lines from that concept in the new 7 but I hope they make the whole car.

It doesn't suprise me at all that BMW wants to focus on the SUV segment. For some reason people STILL want SUVs, but they don't want to pay for gas-gulping american V8s that have low overall fit and finish and have maybe 350hp. American companies haven't figured out that people are going to pay more for high quality, i.e. BMW, Porche, Mercedes

That's not my point. You can easily buy a 1-year-old full size SUV for less than $30k. Probably even less now. What I'm saying is there is still market demand for SUVs, although it's lessened recently. So someone shopping for a large vehicle for whatever reason isn't going to jump at the chance to buy one of the less efficient and lower quality American SUVs when they can afford a European or even an Asian models that beats them hands down.

To the car manufacturer, I would want to know why do you produce a car, truck, or suv and say how good it is, get the best car of the year award, then put a 100,000 mile warranty on it and I just happen to use that warranty at around 2,000 miles, and again at 4,600 miles, then again at 12,000 miles then again at 15,000 miles. I mean I don't own a ZR1 or Viper but I hope that they have better engineering than the rest of the manufacturer line.

Horrible gas mileage. I forget the real numbers and too tired to look it up, but if you have the power boost key in and run the car full throttle, you can go from full to empty on your gas gauge in like 18 minutes...

QOD: How much longer are automakers going to drag their feet with alternative fuel sources? I've done a little research, and besides the federal government doing a bunch of research, automakers only seem to do alternative fuels when they are forced to. I know its supply and demand for automakers, but if there is nothing out there other than fossil fuels and ethonal, how can there be a demand? The US military is making Hummers right now that run on water that is converted to HHO.

The viper acr beating the zr1 or anything around the ring for that matter is completely meaningless to me, and should be to anyone else for that matter. Its cool, dont get me wrong ... fast 'ring times are always cool, but saying that the ACR shattered the ZR1's ring record is just like saying a Ferrari F1 car shattered a ford focus' record. Put that much race kit on anything and you no longer have what I would consider a road car.

though it is a road car, and I am sure you know that, I compare it to the models like the CSL and Ferrari's Scuderia, or Porsche's GT3 (especially the RS). Though they are road cars, they are intended for track days. Dodge never denied that the ACR is a track day car, but it is also road legal. In that case, you have to respect the time. Though all of us agree, there should be standards to the ring. Where to start, how to start, when timing starts and stops, etc...

one word: warranty. If the manufacturers are going to guarantee their engines against breaking for 30k, 45k, or even 100k miles, they had better make sure that those engines are so conservatively tuned that you can beat on them all day long and they (mostly) won't break.

my one ? is for dodge chrysler whatever there name is , why in the hell did you make a charger 4 dour and to call a 4 door srt8 charger a superbee wtf , and when are you guys going to get back to 2 door cars that are cheap with a v8 dam bring back a duster or a real 2 door superbee god u guys have the cards play them for god sake and i know u have the challenger srt8 but who has 40thousand for a 2 door car come on dam

for QOD, something mentioned before, Ford, at least its international brands, have some amazing cars, the FPV models in Australia, and that rockin Focus RS in Europe. To me, they need to get out of the board room and hear the customer and see the competition. Why are they being beat out, and not only match it, but beat it!! They have come a long way recently, keep pushing it. Also, for Chrysler, coming from Iacocca's home town, take some notes from your old owner, get smart, takes risks!!
