  • What a great tune. Spann was a volatile character but he had so much soul. Thanks for the upload

  • Willie Dixon must be on bass - whose on drums ? Fred Below?

  • I've known this track for 40 years and still love it,,,,

    Annette

  • Piano and Harmonica, what a great combination.

  • OTIS WAS TO MUDDY WHAT HUBERT WAS TO WOLF

  • The photo is Otis and James Cotton...

  • Great upload! ~ just curious... but, did you notice the picture is James Cotton & Otis Spann?

  • Notice how Willie Dixon hasn't even bothered to tune his double-bass, and/or bothering to play in tune. He is spoiling what could otherwise 10 times as good a track.

I've got a live Howlin Wolf LP were Willie Dixon spoils the whole album.

And do I need to mention Muddy Waters' "Folk Singer" album ? Dixon spoilt that one too ! The only decent song on that album is "Feel Like Going Home" that Muddy plays solo.

  • @snakehips81 too bad willie dixon wrote half there tunes. dixon was a damn fine musician. in fact anything that features willie dixon on the bass is groovin

  • @TheWhiskeyRover Actually, no, not everything featuring Doxon - the tracks Willie Dixon ruin are not "groovin".

  • Spann was not Muddy Water's half-brother in any biological sense. I have read also that Spann was Muddy Water's cousin, but that's not true either.

  • This is killer. Perfect accompaniment by Shakey all the way thru. Wish I'd had the opportunity to see them live years ago.

  • Can't stand a bloodless murder.

  • this is great.

he kinda sounds like sonny boy on this recording

  • Otis Spann and Muddy Waters were blood brothers. Not born of the same blood but via a blood ritual. Voodoo stuff.

  • thanks for putting the record straight :)

  • Spann the Man. This will play good in 200 years.

  • amen, and then some.

  • this was recorded in June 1968 but not released until 1972. Otis spann was Muddy Waters half brother and he died in 1970.

  • I never heard that Spann was Muddy's half brother, really? Thanks for the post, really enjoying this one.

  • @zenguitarblues Not true! Muddy only only reffered to Otis as his half brother..

  • thanks,

  • What year was this??

  • Absolutely fabulous track! Listen to that Big Walter's licks over there...

  • Otis has the best blues voice, his voice is like bread

  • one of the best chicago blues tracks ever cut... this song has a real atmosphere to it

  • on top of his piano Spann could sing, knew how to belt out a blues line

  • thats for sure!
