  • So knees coming in on the ascension isn't a bad thing? Cause I've found my knees bow in when I get to like 300+ (I'm 5'9" at 170 with a max of about 385-400 depending on the day)

  • He's not bouncing out of the hole at all. He has such tremendous strength and power that it may appear that way, but he's just exploding back up. I mean for christ sakes the man is squatting way past parallel with over a quarter ton on his back with nearly perfect form. From this angle his feet look a little straight for my tastes, but the man clearly knows what he's doing.

    Don't you love how people unfamiliar with proper techniques are so quick to criticize? I wonder if any of you novices know what a snatch is, or even a full clean. These are lifts that involve explosiveness and dropping under the bar. This guy is essentially dropping under the bar in his squat.

  • Aesthetics aside (I'm a strong, fat dude too), you're going to get hurt squatting like that one day. Now I understand that there's always a potential for injury but the way you're doing it is only increasing your chances. You may find an exception or two, but the best squatters in the world (1000+LBS) stay tight through the entire range of motion. You're utilizing the muscle's stretch-reflex, I understand that, but that band's going to snap one day. Be careful, man.

    After Shane did this "dive bomb" squat, he went on to eventually do 1008 for a World Record, Switch to Olympic lifting, made 2 Olympic teams and become the strongest lifter in US history. Not bad for another "fat" guy.

    Squatting fast is not a lack of control but just the OPPOSITE!! Try to move 700+ pounds quickly and without control you will miss for sure!

  • You're a fucking moron. The fact that he's able to explode out of the hole means that weight is easy for him, and it also means that his joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles and all connective tissue fire like angry pistons to pop that weight up with relative ease.

    BTW, bodybuilding is the type of weightlifting with the statistically most injuries while also producing the least amount of weight moved in lifts when compared to powerlifters. Suck on that.

  • Most WPC lifters have a wide stance with theire feet, IPF lifters have a more narrow stance like this guy, and the squat up to 400kg + with singel ply squat suits.. So you can squat big with a narrow stance as well.

    What this guy is doing is more of a "weightlifters squat". Narrow stance, no stop, and has the bar higher up on his back than the powerlifters.

    Do as you prefer, try them all, change between them, or whatever. Dosent really mater that much. Its a preference.

  • Just curious, but what's your opinion based on? There's never been any scientific evidence to support what you said, and anecdotal evidence of weightlifters shows the opposite, that in fact the knees get much stronger squatting deep and through the heels or center of the foot. And what specific part of the knees is it bad for? At what load does the 'badness' start?
