i think the idea is to show that the MTX can take clipping distortion without blowing up. the old speaker blowing rule is:

"it's easier to blow a speaker with too little power than too much"

clipping DISTORTION destroys speakers by turning sine waves into square waves making woofers try to stop on a dime at their excursion extremes. in a weird way, clipping distortion is a subwoofer "test tone". a REAL square wave would destroy most subs at high power levels.
