  • Sorry to hear about your injury. I would suggest starting with CD1 Open D Tuning. This is where the course starts. If you enjoy the lessons, then purchase more. In CD 2 you will learn Open G tuning and CD 3 compares the two tunings, opening up even more possibilities. My music CD good & Evil will give you examples of how I applied this knowledge. Thank you for your support. Enjoy.

  • Thank you for your kind words. Yes, my dog Onyx is a big ham. Whenever I set up the camera he is sure to get in frame. LOL Enjoy.

  • I thought that looked like it was made of sheet metal. Has a much heavier look than an most all metal resonator guitars.

  • Thank you for interest. Actually, the sheet metal body is lighter than the steel or brass bodied resonators, but it is still able to deliver good tone and volume. Enjoy.

  • Thanx for the reply :)

  • Awesome, great playing dude.

  • Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy.

  • Nice one Keni! Charley Patton is one of my greatest influences and you play it very well :)

  • Thank you. This song and Banty Rooster are my two strongest Patton tunes. I am working on a arrangement of Elder Green that I want to record with Jackie and Bill. Enjoy.

  • Nice I'm looking forward to it! I kinda figured out how to play "I'm goin home" but I'm still working on it...

  • Well, I'm looking forward to your cover too. Your method and approach to playing seems to be on track. Keep digging in. Enjoy.

  • Thank you for your videos, what do you think of Donmo guitars?

  • Don Morrison builds a nice resonator guitar. Good tone and not too heavy due to the galvanized sheet metal body. Check out my ebay auction. I am currently selling this model. Enjoy.

  • Bravo, bravissimo

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • Thanks Keni Lee. Yes, a perfect way to describe blues. Thanks for your good wishes for my next 50 years.

    Affectionately, Ricardo.

  • My pleasure Ricardo. Thank you for your interest. Enjoy.

  • That kind of blues are full of feeling.

After 50 years of playing guitar I've just discovered how deeply blues can touch my heart.

Nowadays I am taking baths of Robert Johnson, Son House, Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Leroy Carr, and some other "magicians".

I beleive yo are one of those who keep the blues alive.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Ricardo from Buenos Aires.

  • Thank you for your comment. I love the clear simplicity of the Blues. It reflects the reality of daily life...usually a constant struggling routine that is speckled with moments of pure joy. It is like an old friend that is always great to see or an aspirin to ease the pain. Enjoy the next 50 years.

  • Nice1! I couldn't have put it better myself. I enjoyed the video. It looks like your dog finds the music nice & relaxing too.

  • Thank you.

  • great

  • Thank you.

  • Nice singing and playing!

  • Thank you.

  • You're a natural blues artist, I'd say! Great playing, and your voice goes well with the blues style. Check out my Youtube vids if you get a chance, I have a blues tune posted. I really like the dog looking out the window in the background, adds a nice touch.

  • Thank you for your comment. Ya, my dog Onyx always seems to place himself in the right spot when I'm shooting a video. He does a great job at the end of my Jitterbug Swing video.

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of resting the guitar on your left leg instead of your right?

  • Thank you for your question. Resonator guitars are very heavy, the weight seems to cradle nicely between your legs. Holding the guitar in the classical method also alignes the body better for fingerpicking. Many plectrum (pick) players, I might assume prefer sitting the guitar on their right leg to free the right arm for strumming.

  • How do you consider playing bottleneck slide blues on the Deering B6 from your other video compares to playing on resonator guitar? The differences in sound are pretty obvious, so I mean only in terms of playability, feel, ease of fretting, picking, etc.

  • Thank you for your question. My Banjitar was set up by the same person who sets up my resonators. The action is really not much higher than a standard guitar. The heavier strings and the lower tunings provide the correct string tension for the slide. They are not very different in playability, but the Banjitar weights a lot more than any of my resonators. So playing the Banjitar for extended periods is not good.

  • How well do the same tunes and techniques work on a standard electric like a Strat? Again, I'm curious about general playability. Does tuning down and do 10-46 strings make a Strat unnecessarily difficult compared to a guitar set up specifically for bottleneck slide? Or is it about the same thing, except for the sound and tone?

  • Well, I don't play or own any electric guitars, so I don't know how much help I can be answering this one. I have never seen performances of fingerstyle guitar on solid body guitars. Usually, if it is electric slide, it is that Chicago sound. Lead guitar backed by Bass and Drums. Regardless, in general, the quality of the instrument and how it is set up will account for any guitar's superior playability.

  • Hey, Keni,

Terrific stuff, man! I'm heading to e-bay to buy your cd right now! Thanks!

    Mike Roos

P.S. Love the dog at the window too!

  • Thank you for your comment and your purchase. Ya, my dog Onyx is a big ham. He makes is a point to always be around when I'm shooting video. Please feel free to write if you have any questions about the lessons. Thanks for your support.

  • what kind og genre of music is this? I am becoming intrested. haha this is coming from a Metalhead.

  • This is Country Blues (Bottleneck Slide style). It was popular in 1920 and 1930. Influenced by the Hawaiian Music craze of the same time. Mainly known for the music that came out of the Mississippi Delta. Charlie Patton, Son House, Robert Johnson are some of the most popular artists of this style.

  • Thank you very much :). Very good playing. 5 stars. Also one more thing. Are these resonator guitars played the same as electric or acoustic, meaning like the standard E A D G B E tuning, though I do believe its different because of the slide effect combing strings to get that nice sliding sound. ANyways keep up the good work :).

  • Thank you. If you are interested in this style, please consider buying my instructional CD that is available on ebay. Search: Keni Lee It is only $9.99 for almost 2 hours of video lessons (w/tablature sheet music file). I think you will find that it will give you a solid foundation, and also help you understand how to figure out, and arrange songs. The guitar is tuned to a chord. The keys of D and G are very common tunings. Open D is DADf#ad and Open G is DGDgbd Low to high.

  • Hey Keni just bought your cd from cd baby online and I can't stop playing it! love them all. thanks for the lessons. kennon lee

  • Thank you. I'm glad you are enjoying my CD Good & Evil, and the lessons. Please feel free to write if you have any questions as you work thru the lessons.

  • I love your dog its really beautiful.I want one of those.

  • Thank you. He's a Cockapoo. Real smart, playful and happy. I was very lucky, and got him from a shelter when he was one year old. I've been told if you get one from a breeder it could cost $1000.

  • Hey thanks for the tip.

  • I say perfect. But, Onyx seems unimpressed. Do you have any Charley Patton music on you DVD's?

  • Yes, Please go to ebay and search: Keni Lee. The track listing is there for my new CD, Good & Evil. If you go to my page and click playlists, you will find the lessons decriptions for the Series one instructional CD.

  • Thank you for your comment. Please watch some of my other videos.

  • Hey Keni your donmo sounds great (Because of your fingers too of course ;) )...Actually I hesitate between the rusbucket tricone and the one you've got...I love to play old blues style...Do you have an idea ?

    Thanks. PHIL.

  • Thank you. I play single cones. Tricones have a better overall tone. Of course, tricones are more expensive. National resophonic has a cd where all their resonators are demonstrated. It could give you a better idea of the differences in tone. They are both nice instruments. Too bad you have to choose, why not get both...lol. Good luck with your new guitar. Nothing like a new baby!

  • Bluphil,

I think you should choose a single cone, whatever the make.

  • Thank you for your comment, but if you would like bluephil to see your comment, you need to click on "his name" and send him a message.

  • Wrong Kenny...I Received it ! By the Way, I'm still fan of your playing...Best regards...

  • Thank you. Just trying in my small way to keep the information highway moving smoothly. Take care, and enjoy.

  • Great Playing. It sure is hard to listen to the old recording, but you got it off, good stuff boy, sure thing

  • Thank you. I wish I could take all the credit, but I learned most of this song from one of my teachers, Bob Brozman, during a course of seminars he held over the years at Columbia Univ. NYC.

  • I love the dog in the background, lol.

  • Thank you. His name is Onyx. He is a 3 year old Cockapoo. That a mix of Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. He appears in many of the videos. A friend painted a folk picture of me and him.

  • Mighty fine pickin' there brother and I like your singing.

  • Thank you.

  • This song has the most beautiful controlled resonance. I like the shuffle that sounds like a train whistle at "Well I thought I heard that Helena whistle blow" and after "painted over green" and "my back door".

  • Thank you. These lyrics are not exactly like the original. Unfortunately, Patton's old 78 records were in bad shape. It takes some time before you can listen thru the noise and hear the magic of his playing. Some of these lyrics come from Jo Ann Kelly's version of this song. In the duet version, Bill recreates the whistle sound. This song is a great duet because there are two very clear lines of music.

  • Fantastic sustain from that guitar!

  • Lovely primitive country slide blues at its best.

The dog looks cool too - a definite bluesman's dog.

  • Thank you. Please check out the duet version with my good old freind, Blimey Bill playing Willie Brown's part. My dog is a cockapoo from a local shelter, so he's done time in the big house. You are right, he knows the blues.

  • hey great song! i've got myself a donmo!

  • Thank you for the video response. Ya, Donmo is great. I love that big open bucket sound. I see you got the old rust bucket model. They are great for playing on the street. Everyone asks me if I made it myself. Keep slidin!

  • really smooth dude!

  • Thank you. I learned this tune at a Bob Brozman seminar in NYC (IGS - International Guitar Seminars). Check out his videos.

  • i thought there was someone behind you, and then it jumped =/ when i noticed it lol. Cool dog :O

Nice skills. Hope you get a duet going ;)

  • Thank you. I got my dog a year ago from a local shelter. My friend Bill has been helping me record a CD. It's almost complete. We are going to do some duets for youtube to help promote it. So, please stay tuned.

  • Thank you. He is two years old. He is a cockerspanial and poodle mix. A Cockapoo!

  • love the doggie

  • luv it man have posted it on nothin`but the blues, this is class man !! regards bluespower..

  • Thank you. I need to have my good friend Bill come over one night and record a couple of duets. This one sounds even better with two guitars.

  • this is the good old blues sound, i like it !!

  • Thank you. It sounds better with two guitars. Where is Willie Brown when you need him?

  • Thank you. I going to record Banty Rooster when I get the time.

  • nice. I love patton, the slide, guitar and your voice sound great!!!
