I am Coast Guard. I cant wait to serve my country, I cant wait to wear that white uniform of honor. I cant wait to lead others and show what I have to give back. I cant wait to be an engineer, and architect and eventually a operations ashore search and rescue. I am Nikolas and I am Coast Guard. Im just waiting for my application to be accepted:D
hi im just 15 and im planning on joining the CG when i get 17 or 18 what all would i have to go through in or do in order to become a hh-60 jayhawk (helicopter) pilot ? i know i would have to go throught flight school but what elce is there id have to do to become a pilot?
@sparklerbombg yes you can graduate from a normal college, and then go to OCS Officer Candidate School, but if you go to the academy, your already an officer and don't have to go to OCS
Hey if some one is interested in the rescue swimmer program but wants to attend a CG Academy first how does that work? Do most Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers not attend college?
Hey what if you already have a degree? so you need to go to the academy if you want to be an officer? is the contract time the same for officer and reserve? what is the shortest term you can serve? I am not very fond of wasting all my youth in the military but because I wanted to carry the military tradition/patriotic duty.
Thanks for posting this video! Looks very demanding. If I may ask the poster/author of this video, what academic achievements and extra-curricular activities did you participate in to make you qualify as a cadet? ( I'm assuming your an alumni from here)? I know it sounds like a generalized question, but I'd just like to adapt to the competition and make sure this is the right choice for me. Then again, only if you willing to share your information.
I want to go to this academy, I am a freshman in high school and I would like to know where a recruiter is for after I graduate, I live in Hawaii but going to another state is not a problem for me. I want to be a helicopter pilot for the coast guard, what flight school should I go to?
If you are looking to get into the Coast Guard Academy then I advise some of you to improve your writing skills. It is one of the most elite undergraduate colleges in America. Also, do your research before asking plain questions. Even enlisting is very selective these days, as the recruiters are only taking people with an AFQT score of 75+. If you are a hard-charger but don't get accepted into the academy, I recommend a Maritime Academy, as you can get a direct commission after graduating.
**Any one know what you are suppose to write the Essays on/about - required after submitting the online application?? I looked on my profile/ website and could not find it anywhere. Nick D.
I was talking to to a college and career person at my high school and I asked about the Coast Guard Academy. She told me that I had to take the S.A.Ts or A.C.Ts. Is this true?
@USCGAAdmissions . I wasn't aware that the average score was a 29. Could an applicant apply with a 26 in the ACT ? I mean, getting in with a 26 might be pretty hard then, other things being equal ....
Ive been looking at this and got all the information. But the hardest part is that i live in the UK, and i cannot find a way to contact the academy about how to try and join. Any advice on how to go about this ? Thankyou
To be honest, my biggest interest in a career would be to become an astronaut with NASA. I read how two graduates from the USCGA became pilots, and am wondering if I manage to enter the school, what degree would be best to pursue?
Becoming an astronaut is solely based on your performance. The Academy is an engineering school, so I am assuming you want to be an engineer, whichever major you pursue, if you do well and then graduate and do well as an officer you can compete for the Astronaut program.
@warrenbfoster im there right now trying to do the same thing. go mechanical electrical engineering. do your flight school time and go to graduate school, then ull have a good shot at it.
That's not true. We have a holistic review, so it depends on the rest of your file and the competition you are up against. A 2.5 in an IB program is very different than a 2.5 in a low track high school curriculum.
if I went to uscga and wanted to be a pilot, do I have a good chance at getting a slot, in other words, do alot of other ppl that go their want to be pilots
@sedargo77 We have more pilots b percentage than the Air Force, and more pilots than people on boats. You can apply for flight school any time between graduation and 7 years after graduation.
The admission process looks at more than just grades and extracurriculars. There's no way to tell what your chances are without having a full file, but anyone can be accepted if you meet the eligibility requirements.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy at a Civilian college. Think I get sign up as an Environmental Officer after meeting ASVAB requirements? Or would I need more schooling?
b175977, the admission process looks at more than just grades and extracurriculars. There's no way to tell what your chances are without having a full file.
1. Load up on math and science.
2. Get ahead in your class rank.
3. Be well rounded by participating in sports, academics, and extracurricular activities.
jbf501, I'm not sure what your question is. Search and Rescue is a mission in the Coast Guard that almost all graduates of the Academy will participate in after graduation. It is not an academic major at the Academy.
like i said before i think all Branches do their part...i dont think one branch does more than the other........I prefer the Navy or Marine Corps and im in the process of applying to the USNA. EVERYONE DOES THEIR PART.
its messed up cause most people make fun of the USCG and stuff...personally i want to go to the USNA to become a Marine Officer...but the coast guard is ok...i mean each military branch is great in its own way...
That's right. Many disrespect the Coast Guard as a military service because the general public is not well informed of the missions we do. Thank you for your insightful perspective.
