  • I didn't even know it was possible to move your fingers that fast. I'm trying to type at about what that speed on the strings would be, not even coming close.

I need to learn to play the guitar soon.

  • Smokin strings Yeah Baby

  • Dennis Agajanian is sloppy on the picking. He just swings the pick like a wild man and hits a lot of notes that dont belong there. A good man but a sloppy guitarist. Listen to Tommy and Phil Emmanual

  • when the violin kicks in I imagine chinese warriors from the BCs wrestling and battling cowboys.

  • try jimmy murphy

  • As to fast picking Dennis Agajanian is considered by most experts to be the fastest picker, and plays well also. Cheers!

  • @gmkell59 I looked Agajanian up on youtube and he sounds pretty good. I had never heard of him before. Which experts specifically are you referring to?

  • Compared to Joe Maphis playing Fire on the Strings on his album and CD of the same name (the image of which is portrayed, hearing this is torture!

Fast picking? Yes. But that is as far as it goes. Get the CD and listen to some REAL country guitar by Joe. Instrumentals such as FIre on the Strings, Townhall Shuffle and Flyin' Fingers would make a country guitarist turn green with envy. All this one does is make the same guitarist put his fingers in his ears instead of the fretboard..

  • people trying to compare Maphis to Atkins might as well compare a Ferrari to a Bentley.

  • I tabbed this if anyone's interested, L O L, not :D

  • @eric1love I'm interested please send to srobe9039@aol.com

  • He's got my respect and all only the place he went vainglorious was in accepting the cognomen of King of the Strings even though he deserves it.

  • K this guy would eat SRV for breakfast with a side of Aungus Young!!!!

  • Speed ain't everything......and this proves it.

  • You all have to watch the 'pickin and a singing' video on youtube. Joe displays mastery of a ton of different instruments including one of the best bass solos that I've ever heard.

  • It takes tremendous skill to be that good on an acoustic. Joe Maphis is one of those people who can do it.

  • SON OF A ....!!!! I think he's faster than Roy Clark!

  • I was just watching an interview with Dick Dale in which he talked about Joe Maphis being an amazing picker on the doubke neck guitar, after some searching for the correct surname spelling i found him and he is awesome indeed.

  • A True Shredder! Joe kicks ass of all Satranis , Vais of Malmsteens of this wolrd!

  • @EdwardBlues I agree, but in fact Vai, Malm, Halen are way way faster! This is at 160 bpm and the todays guitarists play above 200 bpm. Maphis sounds faster because he plays on a acoustic and 160 bpm on acoustic is impressive!

  • I bought this LP in Hawaii in 1959 and still have it, although I don't have anything to play it on. Joe was doing all the instrumentals, multiple recordings.

  • They finally did release it onto a CD!

  • To billga2007: Yes, this is Joe Maphis. Please read below, the comments I posted 5 months ago about this particular recording.

    Ken, Toronto

  • I doubt that is realy Joe Maphis . A good impersonation though .

  • Guitar master! Thanks for the post.

  • sorry man i think chet atkins trumps country guitar

  • Then put your imaginary money where your e-mouth is. Put up a reply youtube of atkins.

  • @xpunkstarrx Hey Guys... This guy is Gr8 but so was Chet... I agree with both of you. lol

  • @xpunkstarrx I'd say that Doc Watson trumps them all.

  • @xpunkstarrx Respectfully disagree. A guy like Maphis played with FIRE. Atkins played fast and pretty, but not with fire.

  • Satriani who? Vai who? Van Wholin?

  • @Winonasalibi

Only someone still in high school would say this, U probably listen to Taylor Swift dont u. FUCK U!

  • To clownpendotfart: The CD from which this particular instrumental is on is from a CD I have in my hand a I type this. It's called Guitars & Banjos-The Heroes. It's a compilation of instrumentals taken from previous recordings by Merle Travis, Arthur Smith, Don Reno, Sonny Osborne, Joee Maphis, and Eddie Adcock. All acoustic. Where did you find this particular recording by Joe Maphis? i.e. What album is it from.

    Ken, Toronto

  • I can't remember. I just googled the title and found the picture. I heard it from Pandora but they don't appear to have it anymore.

  • This is an acoustic version and not from the album as pictured. I have this on a CD called Guitar Heroes. I also have the album as pictured with his Mosrite double-neck guitar. Purchased this album in 1958 in Toronto. Have since had it transferred to CD.

  • Thanks for the correction. I guess I don't know what the cover-art for this would be.

  • eddie cochran was a big fan of this guy, that says it all.

  • Sorry - got to totally disagree with clownpendotfart - Joe Maphis is without doubt the greatest guitarist of all of country & western. Also surely a contender as well for (one of) the greatest modern era guitarist?

  • I don't think that counts as disagreement!

  • Broadclystboy I AM LOOKING FOR ANY VIDEO/DVD ON JOE MAPHIS. CAN YOU OR ANYBODY HELP ME? IS THERE ANY ON EBAY? I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL FOR ANY INFORMATION. THANKS

    mastercollector
