I've been going through a hard time right now. I've become what society calls "an addict". Yes, I love to drink and do drugs but I love Christ, although my actions don't show it. So my question for you is do you think addiction is a demonic force, disease or just all in the head?
P.S. Can you please do a video for addicts and overcoming addiction through Christ. It would mean so much for me.
To ARMINIANS -Romans 11:32 "for God has shut up all to unbelief, that he might have mercy on all".
To CALVINISTS -1 Timothy 4:10"for for this we both labour and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Saviour of ALL MEN ESPECIALLY y of those believing."
DOUBTERS I Cor. 15:23-28"But every man in his own order:..For He must reign until He has put all enemies under His feet..last enemy...destroyed is DEATH... Son also Himself be subject unto Him..that God may be ALL IN ALL"
by the way... in Hebrew emunah (=faith) אמונה has the same root as the word mother - em אם and thus, it goes along well with the whole nurturing side... faith has a feminine part to its side... you drink it up as a baby drinks from a mother
I think the key is understanding he chose you and maintains that union by his power you just yield and enjoy it you might have a break from the river but just cause you hop out for a little bit and do some 'outter' kingdom things doenst stop the river from flowing you cant stop it you dont have a choice in that regard
And now he's wearing glasses just like Jim Jones to cover up his eys :P !
Seriously, good word man. It's a really good synopsis of grace theology. Much love to you, John! Keep on truckin' in the Holy Ghost... or I guess I should say, keep letting Holy Ghost truck *you* around ^_0 .
John, people have accused you of having "false experiences" with God in the past, and from that i ask if when someone doesnt have a particular "experience" with God, how can one say "they do not believe enough" or dont have "enough faith?" (as does happen in Charismatic groups) doesnt that end up really meaning that they "must Beleive (by willpower)" in order to have a God experience? wut ya think?
Thanks for your almost-insane emphasis on the centrality of the Cross in your books "mystical union" and "Seven Spirits burning": the Spirit was able to use your faithfulness to finally get it into my head not only WHY the Cross is central, but even showed me how to "appropriate" it: The Holy Spirit is the inheritance left by Jesus to his brethren. Some of us may have to fight our way into it, but once in, WE REST AND ENJOY IT.
"Gotta crank up that chainsaw of faith!" LOL! Love it!!! Lotta whack on this vid :) Looking forward to celebrating the bliss at Gloryfest we you guys in Wales in a few weeks! Keep it unreal. Nick G x
Yes, John, I think when we do something wrong, we know it and we want to set it right, not do it again (or should as God lives in us).
Holy Spirit showed both myself and my friend independently three years ago before we found grace preachers like you to stop confessing sins and beating ourselves up, but thank Him we are forgiven and move on immediately, letting the weight go!
John - in the below Q&A, you mention asking forgiveness of sins. This is a BIG can of worms in Grace circles. Can you expound quickly on 1John 1:9 versus 1John 2:1? Some (mostly those under the mixture of law and grace) say we must confess every sin or be separated from God. I say that negates the work of the cross & is an invitation to salvation, and 2:1 is then Jesus pleading our case before the Father after we are saved. If we have to confess every sin to restore fellowship = self works.
@Buckyrhino I agree. Christ entered in as High Priest to absolve us of sin once for all. Every sin you commit is a "future" sin from the vantage point of the cross. We don't need to go around navel gazing, looking for sins to repent of and individually confess. However ... if we do something wrong, I think its mentally and emotionally helpful for us to recognize it and maybe even feel some momentary remorse. As James says, "Confess ... that you may be healed." But it's not a salvation issue.
can i add that when 1 john 1 talks about the need for confession, it is best understood in context where he teaches against those who deny that their sin is imputed to them, not on the basis of the blood but because they are spirits and not flesh. His argument aganist them is, if you havent sinned then theres no need for Jesus blood. So to confess that we have sinned means in the context to stop denying sin or not to defend ones right to sin, but to just agree with God that we have sinned.
What about the Command to Repent? Mark 1:15 and Acts 17:30-31 and Acts 26:20b, and Acts 2:38 and Acts 3:19.
I do commpletely agree that Faith is a Gift, but what about Repentance? those passages are very clear arent they? and what about Phil 2:12-13-"work out your salvation" (I know that verse doesnt mean we save ourselves by works but how do you understand it)?
@bettcher777 I think I may be able to do Johnny a favor and answer this one. Jesus commands us to repent because He wants us to return to the High Place (that's the breakdown of the word "repent"). As far as I understand it, you repent when you first come to Jesus. Repentance is not something you do repeatedly when you sin, that is asking forgiveness. And the fact is, most people don't have a sin problem, they just have a wrong perspective of grace and faith. Blissings to you in our dear Lord!
@bettcher777 Repentance is a fruit of salvation, not a prerequisite. AS Way translation is best to see what "work out your salvation" means. Has nothing to do with your self effort - just the opposite. Literally means "work it out with fear and self-distrust, ay, trembling self-distrust." Don't trust yourself in any way for this salvation! :) That negates Christ's finished work. The passage goes on to say it is God who is working through you. Much more on that verse in my book Mystical Union.
Repentance is an act of turning AWAY from sin. Much like Crowder earlier encourages a true spiritual fast is to fast from sin, repentance is much in the same way and most believers who are living in the finished works of the cross already live in this without realizing it. Repentance isn't kicking yourself for sinning, its realizing your folly and turning away from it.
id like to suggest that repentance (bot the shub and the meta-noia) in moral sense means simply to regret sin. Its not an outer act, but a change of heart/mind towards a life in sin. Theres no way anyone bound in sin can change their life anyways, they will either be rose in sin or worse in religion when they try. Jesus did say that the holy spirit is sent to convict the world of sin, because they dont belive, and that conviction - or repentance - helps a lot of ppl to believe in the cross.
@bettcher777 If I may add: "work out" is probably a misleading translation in our modern day vernacular. It generally means "do" or "work"; or if I may, "apply" (check out Vines). We've been given salvation, now let's live it out! We don't live (or work) according to the flesh, we live by the Spirit in happy obedience to Jesus! The surrounding verses (2:1-18) simply show us what that "working out", or "applying" is like. Essentially, it's relying on God, not ourselves. =)
