I used to live on Bertrand Island after the theme park closed down, until I moved in 1st grade. I went back and visited last week, and now it's a bunch of condos.
My parents had a boat on Lake Hopatcong, but would never let us go there. We used to drive by it on the boat, but I think they thought it was unsafe or something. I always wanted to go on that roller coaster.
Remember nickel night, the dodge 'em cars, the whip, the rocket ride and the night one car flew off the track on the Boomerang! A couple of people were hurt, but not seriously. When I got older, it was fun dancing to rock music in The Cube! Great memories! RIP, Bertrand Island! :-(
Breaks my heart that they built condos here. I used to come to the park when I was very small -- always denied by Mom from riding the coaster -- probably why I love them so much now. So glad to find this little gem of a video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the post, We use to hang out there a lot in the last years that it was open, 82, 83???. The guards would let you hang out after the park closed. It stood for a little while before they demolished it. Condos are there now right?

One of the best memories of my childhood was Bertrand Island. The Carousel from there was moved to Disney World in Florida, it looks amazing.

bertrands island amusement park was a blast...i rode all the rides many times the roller coaster was great...this brings all the memories back

The roller coaster was really rickety and caught fire once while people were on it so maybe your parents were right to not let you on it. Ha Ha.

The park's final owners really let that place fall apart! It possibly could have survived had it been taken care of!
