every lease road or forestry road looks like this in the alberta winters , just another day at the office man ! like they say if yer scared chain up !
It just means that the rig only runs there in the winter. They relocate somewhere else in the summer/warmer months. We have rigs that move every couple of weeks depending on the conditions and whether or not trucks can get into them. If they are really wanting to stay where they are, they put in matting to help the trucks stay about the ground ... bad drivers aren't really an asset to hauling out of these ones ... especially if you have to back onto the matting.
I work'd up in the conklin area looks the same all around there easy to get lost if you don't pay attention. did it all from hauling dirt to water and equipment and operated too, nice ppl to work with now i'm a court worker.
As far as I can see, there isn't room for a 2 way traffic but if there were or is, it would be close lol. but nice video man, I like watching trucking videos, nice one :)
Ive gone to a rig and to travel 55 kms it took a lil over 4 hrs to do it, one single lane with a lot of traffic and 2 hills that you had to be towed up and over..That was off the 500 rd and the wapati rd off the Heritage highway in BC
interesting to see it done in alberta.i do it in manitoba.20 hrs winter road from lynn lake to lac brochet, about 17 out when M/T.Seems 1 winter road is the same as the nxt.altho this particular road seems quite smooth by comparison.
its like there wasnt anything else around, like he was in the middle of nowhere lol.backing up that big rig would've been impossible had he taken a wrong turn.idk man,it just freaked me out kinda lol.
lol it can make a guy nervous the first few times ever going down a bush road like this (so narrow).. i was working in a Wabasca a few weeks ago and due to a flat bed breaking thru a few trucks had to back up the road for 20 some kms to the hole so they could lay the rig matting down... took them 2 days with 14hr shifts
Oh i can imagine lol.I was nervous watching this.I used to repair rigs when i worked in indiana but never actually driven one that far.Wow,2days? 14 hour shifts? oh shit. Its better that is was a flat bed than a trailer tho, otherwise it would've probally been a week! lol, amazing.
this is nothing...currently myself im oporating a snocat (skihill groomer) on a lake...3.5km from shore clearing a path so they can freeze it in for travel... the thickness varies from 9 inches to 22 inches, i already broke the ice at 12inches. when i park and shut down the machine i can hear ice cracking at 18 inches...nervous work
Whoa man,you bring back memories.thats how that silk mud is along the river beds,in the backwoods of indiana, fall in that, its like quicksand and the snakes will get ya.but nothing compares to the ice tho, whoa man,you be extra careful out there.
the snow cat is just light enough...there was a D5 cat and bobcat on track last week doing the same thing i am but they ended up going under... safety first!
thats nothing...i rip down the winter roads north of you with a john deere 9520... with my blade straight im 15 wide (one foot ext facing ditch)...basicly i open these roads up and drag them for endless hours so you can have a decent ride down them
He was when I was there. I don't think I met the guy, but I sure heard a lot about him! I just found that it wasn't the right place for me personally... but it was a fun 3 months while I was there.
Sorry again but my mom was wondering and so am i that if the ole Freightliner Cabover number 847 is still there? when i drove by there to take a look in i think 04? or 05? it was sittin there but is it still sittin there? and my dad was drivin the Kenworth T800 number 842.
Hey, that's OK! You know, I walked that yard probably 100 times looking for trucks. They would give me a list of units, and I would go try to locate them and bring them in for repair. Unfortunately, I never once spotted a cabover there. They were in the process of getting rid of a lot of older trucks at the time, and I think they were having issues with management and employee retention.
Yeah i noticed they was changin their trucks to macks and new paint sheme for em use to see em come up on the ramp comin off the white mud on calgary trail or just by snow valley on the bridge sucks they changed to macks and changed their paint sheme i like the original Black,White and that other colour can remember the name now i see em White & then w.e the name is but they finally got rid of the ole cabover eh? that sucks.. oh well.
So this is what im up against in 4 or 5years!! awsome lol i use to go loggin with my stepdad here in alberta when i was 3 or 4 maybe even 5 that was awsome i loved that and i been all over the U.S and Canada when i was 7 and hauled cattle up around calgary etc but my mom use to drive these type of roads long time ago for NIC (Northern Industrial Carriers) but yeah awsome vid man!!
Niiiiice Clip Man ! I love the Wintertime , but the driving in the wintertime is a hell more work for the brain and the feeling in the Butt for the moves of the Rig ! I came from Germany but i liv now in Norway ! I drive Stones out of a Tunnelprojekt with a 6 axle Tipprig ! I waiting here for the Wintertime , then in Germany we dont have much Snow in the winter ! I hope here in Norway , near by Oslo , comes more Snow down ! Greetz from Truckerbuddy Mike from Norway
Beautiful Roads....I Know, I drove them around 3 years ago when i was a as the say "Greenhorn", but after only 3-4 weeks on the job, i crashed my rig after missing a turn in the dead of nite, right into the woods.
Wow, i loved watching this, could almost smell the diesel wafting in the cab from time to time, great truck, great landscape, amazing! Thanks for posting this, this kinda thing really is You-Tube at it's best. Well done! Excellent stuff! Reminded me of one of my fav movie sets, in the Shining!
I would advice against trucking....my husband regrets it now...he's is 39 years old and does flat deck work; tarpping is killing him. His back is already screwed and he's in pain all the time. It's not easy....and he work between 18 to 20 hours 5 days a week.....he has no choice....so now...at 39...who is going to hire him? I told him 15 years ago he would regret it....it's not what you do for a living, but who you work for....he has no benefits and living expenses are through the roof.
Hey Yerfucked, did you get your training in Fort Mac or did you take a heavy equipment course? I'm getting mine starting Nov, 6 month course. Hopefully I'll get a half decent paying job in Fort Mac.
I got my class 1 in 94', so gained lots of offroad experience early on... once you have a year in Northern BC or Northern Alberta, you can get a job as a truck driver anywhere... You can probably make more money driving further north, but you gotta be a special type of person to drive the "real" ice roads over lakes and shit.... I can't do that. Too paranoid...
Yeah, I wouldn't be able to drive over lakes, that would be nuts...I'll probably move to Fort Mac once I get out of school and drive a heavy hauler. Do you think they hire many people who have the course but not much experience?
I think they're so hurting for drivers that they will hire you right out of a course with no exp. I would go back, but I enjoy seeing my family here in Edmonton once in a while...
Oh yes, I wouldn't blame you. I'm from the East coast, I've already lived in Calgary and did some contstruction work in Medicine Hat. I'm back home for a few months and going to take advantage of getting some funding for this course. I don't think I could live that far away from home all year round but I think I'll see if I can get some experience out there and then possibly find a job in that work field closer to home.
I'm an East Coaster too... Tatamagouche, NS. Been here for 17 years though... I came out before the "big boom" that's ruining life here in Alberta... too expensive now to live here and have a decent lifestyle, but at least there's work here!
awsome, im thing about becoming a truck driver, i have talked to other truckers on the cb, and they said not to do it. but. i have wanted to be a truck driver ever since i was a little kid. so, should i do it? is it $300 a day, or delivery. free food is always a good thing!

Dumb question, but if road like this in the muskeg aren't drivable in the summer, does that mean everything goes by plane?

I lived in Dohn D'or Prairie which is farther up north as to which the only way in and out of Fox Lake was to drive accross the ice bridge.
Good thinking to building there roads.
