  • It would seem that if you were to add the vasaline to your paraffin while melting you would have the best of both worlds?

  • Anything which can act as a wick will work this trick. I taught my scouts for years to drip half a dozen drops of candle wax into a cotton wool ball...same result, less mess!

  • I just picked up some vaseline today to test this on other materials like dryer lint. Interesting how it is clearly superior to other cotton balls by themselves.

  • Would clumped up toilet paper with a bit of vaseline be a good tinder?

  • Sounds like Tony Soprano filmed this.

  • I'm about to make some right now! Cant wait to burn it.

  • Have to say this is about the only way I made fire in mine camps now, so easy and fast. Also could use them or it as a candle if need be for a quick field repair if you didn't want to waste your energy on building a big fire. Well Done Bro.

  • im assuming its saturated cottonball and burns roughly 6 mins?

  • @martialartist34 The description and annotation say it's covered in Vaseline (not saturated). I'd imagine that a saturated ball would either burn longer or just burn higher.

  • gawd this is making me wanna watch 101 way to make a fire >..>

  • As space is not really an issue with small items like this I carry multiple options.

Char cloth, jute twine and gun cleaning patches.

Rather than vaseline, I use Bees Wax...Longer, hotter burn time.

  • Get a cotton ball, dunk it in hot wax. While it is still cooling, press strike anywhere matches into the wax. You can break the batches in half to make them small enough to fully press into the waxy cotton. It is waterproof, portable, easily lit, long burning.

  • Six minute burn time is about right. I got seven. So, you figure you can count on about five minutes for your tinder to dry out. With a dozen of these "petro-balls" in your pack, you could start a good fire in almost any environment with fuel.

  • i use this for my mini stove homemade

  • AMAZING VIDEO! THANX!

  • how does it hold up in the wind?

  • @Illustratos I imagine it burns faster, but I suspect it stays lit (unless you're in a hurricane).

  • You are like a demented god of fire.

Women must want to suck you off!

  • Fan-F'ing-Tastic video brother

I for 1 wasn't 'bored' because i was to busy being amazed at how long that sucker burned...Thanks for the upload

    gonna go make 100 now

  • Good trick! Thanks for sharing.

  • Nice video

  • good job on the vid . It really gets to the point . Thanks

  • nice very very nice

  • GOONESS GRACIOUS GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!

  • @rla1978x you got that from mr g from Mindpaint

  • @islandfireballkill Jerry Lee Lewis sang Great Balls of Fire, not Mr G although he does have cool vid's.

  • Will beeswax work too?

  • @DJ2KChrome You can make very useful tinder out of cotton and beeswax, yes. From what I just read on using paraffin, it might be difficult to make it as reliably easy to light.

  • Nice i wanna try that. where did u get the "blast match" i want 1

  • @TurtlesHermitCrabs Try any web search engine. Like all sparking fire starters (including the sparking part on lighters and torch strikers) it's ferrocerium rod, which you can get more compact as plane rod and strike about as easily with the back of a knife.

  • wow i always thought a regular cotton ball burned pretty long and i always heard stuff like petroleum jelly soaked cotton balls burn way longer than regular cotton balls do and i always thought...ahh their full of crap until i saw this vid and tried it for myself :)

5* great video the only one that shows that actually shows the burn time

    great video 5*

  • Nice tip!

Corn chips, fritos, doritos, nacho chips & taco shells work good in a pinch too.

  • I know their only supposed to be used as fire starters, but has anyone tried using a vaseline soaked cotton ball instead of a trioxane block as a camp stove fuel?because I'm sure this petroleum jelly cotton ball is burning longer than the last trioxane block I used,in fact I went through 3 trioxane segments of a 3 segment block and the amount of water I was using only got hot, it only started boiling when I got a meths burner under it,but weather was mild at the time

  • totally correct bro. I have tried the maya dust (rip off), and most of the natural stuff, dryer lint won hands down until I tried this.

Cheap, starts quick, burns long. What more do ya need. Great illustration.

  • I actually melt my Vaseline and mix in charcoal fluid let it solidify then rub it on my cotton balls.

  • That is actually one of the best videos ive seen. nobody else shows the burn time on these. Good vid!

  • @tina30d there's a video by watuwaitn4 which shows a burntime of 8 minutes

  • @tina30d Except me! And i show it in the snow in 20 degree temperatures!

  • NICE VIDDEo, even though u don't talk it shows the difference very well
