  • lol these commentators...

  • shitty ref

  • TONEY CONTROLLED THE FIGHT THE ENTIRE NIGHT. HE WAS CUTTING OFF THE RING, LANDED PRECISION PUNCHES, AND SLIPPED NUNN'S PUNCHES ALL NIGHT.

  • THESE COMMENTATORS ARE HORRIBLE. WHAT FIGHT ARE THEY WATCHING? JAMES TONEY WASN'T HURT ONE TIME ALL NIGHT.

  • The post fight interviewer is Joe Goossen, the brother of Dan Goossen of Gooseen/Tudor Promotions, and trainer of the late Diego "Chico" Corrales.

  • james toney went up to fight the heavyweights, he got some balls, a very good tecnical fighter

  • one of the best middleweight championship bouts of all time

  • james toney struggled with a very fast and taller south paw. He lost to roy jones jr because he was much faster also.

  • From the last minute of the 9th till the end it was all Toney...Nunn cracked under Toney's pressure, and the left broke him!!!

  • score judge: Gary Merritt 93-97 | judge: Bob Watson 91-99 | judge: Dalby Shirley 92-98

Alright I had the fight 96-95(1 round even 6rh, since I didn't see it)

Toney really came on in the 9th and 10th and he would have gotten Nunn is not in the 11th then the 12th. Nunn was tired and Toney had him figured out. That simple.

I lived in FL at the time of this fight and the Lakeland Ledger had a clip of nunn laying on his back, still have it. What crock of shit shit that toney landed a lucky punch

  • What assholes, commentators, the punishment that toney took during the 1 half of the fight. Nunn landed very little he threw a lot, but toney's defense was great he blocked or slipped or ducked most of Nunn's punches. I thought this was even at this point, with Toney coming on and would have won the last round as well. Probably not get a decision.

  • @sinusbradycardia woulda, coulda, shoulda. The better fighter won, period. Nunn never recovered after this fight. Became a statistic and doing hard time.

  • @jperez9805 I'm not exactly sure what post you are referencing to. I said Toney was the better man in so many words. I still have the news paper cutout of Nunn laying on the canvas. I stole my neighbor's new's paper, the Lakeland Ledger, and went to sports section to see if they had any print of the fight and to my surprise it was the cover of the sports page. I jumped and down in the street, because I wanted Toney to win so bad. Maybe you should reread what I posted, it was all pro Toney.

  • @sinusbradycardia Also, I don't think Toney landed a lucky punch. As so many others have said. He was countering with that right hand beautifully and I think he sucker Nunn into thinking he was going to counter with the right hand and instead throw a left hook. That was skill not luck. So if I didn't explain thinks clearly I understand your post, however, you don't have to be an asshole about it, but hey maybe that's just you and you can't change.

  • @sinusbradycardia Absolutely. Luck happens when opportunity meets preparation. Toney landed a number of hard shots in the 9th and 10th rounds, his pressure was relentless, and I think he beats Nunn in a rematch too.

  • @jperez9805 My bad. Did your neighbor ever get his paper back?

  • i enjoyed the stunned commentators more than the ko....

and wtf was the ref doing... he kinda half stepped in on the second knockdown to stop toney's attack.... either wave it off or get the fuck out the way....

  • he switches his stance when he whiffs on the first right hand. what decapitated Nunn was an overhand left. Nunn was throwing a left uppercut and his right hand was coming up to block the hook. little did he know that Toney switched to southpaw (genius) and hammered him from a different angle than the traditional left hook. awesome punch....

  • What a beautiful left hook.

  • James toney is the only hoodrat type of fighter i can stand. A bastard through and through, but tough as nails and real smarts under the ghetto Facade.

The man would FIGHT anyone under any circumstances.

    A true warrior indeed!

  • thats why there is more brain damage in boxing than mma, all those unecessary shot nunn absorbed, that shouldve been stopped. who cares if he stood up, he was out. great fight by the way, the 8th round was the beginning of the end for nunn. james tony is a late round fighter.

  • This was a great fight. I was a kid watching this going for Nunn I guess because I didnt' know better. LOL. James Toney was sick. After that guess what, I picked Toney to beat Roy Jones Jr. well who knew?

  • ay man.. i like james toney, hes 1 of my favorite boxers, but i dont like him gettin this win. I had been watchin some Nunn fights and saw he was a great boxer, but I never saw him fight another really good boxer, so i was interested to see what hed do in this fight. Both of these guys are arrogant, but i think Nunn was just a lil too arrogan for his own good. at 37-0 i think he was too used to winning and got caught slippin at the end. I believe if he put his heart into the fight he wouldve won

  • Did you see James Toney's Ol'lady. lol ! She was all on his nutts! :P I never seen a guy's wife or girlfriend interfering in an interview, like this chick was ! lol !

  • @joeblohhh thats not his wife or girlfriend actually, shes just part of his team and i think James used to live with her in the early part of his career, shes jewish thats why you see the star of david on his trunks at times.

  • James Toney is one of the all time greats.

Nowadays you don't see great technical fighters fighting each other.

Fighters pick and choose and it seems to me that people just accept it and give these guys just as much credit as a JT or a M Nunn.

Where has the hounour got to man?

Fighters don't seem to have the same ambition as the old guys-with the exception of Manny Pacquiao whos gone through alot of tough matchups in his career-he's one of the only guys who carries that sort of ambition.

  • @KASHLAMDA I think it had more to do with money than pride. You HAD to fight the best in them days to make a decent living. But yeah i agree with you that the modern era is seriously lacking when it comes to the best fighting the best,

  • It's amazing to hear James Toney talking about a good training regiment.

  • wtf "high-tech" training are they talkin bout that holyfield also used???? steriods or what. im dead serious, wtf are they talking bout?

  • @ForOweOne Things like training in intervals and shyt

  • these commentators are dicks, toney bitchslapped this kid

  • ive never heard more bias commentators in my life.. the whole fight all they talk about is nunn nonstop.. who are these commentators? worse commentators ever.. glad toney knocked this guy out.

  • @dianawapooh It's hilarious, really. Through the first 3 parts they do nothing but shit on him, say he's not able to back up his talk, etc. and then he beats Nunn senseless in the 10th and they're all "TONEY IS ONE OF THE BEST MIDDLEWEIGHTS PERIOD"

  • James Toney is one of the best technical boxers in history.

  • sweet left hook to take out nunn. He deserved the way held his hands so low, and being so cocky. And I dont know who these biased commentators are, but they suck big time.

  • @HitmanConan I think Nunn at the time was the #1 ranked middleweight who had beaten Iran Barkley, Sumbu Kalambay, and Donald Curry. Obviously the announcers thought he was going to win based on his record and not the fact Toney would go on to be a certain HoFer

  • This is James best win I think

    He is a legend

  • One dementional? my ass....

This fight was a huge deal when it happened. I was surprised Nunn was taking so many shots. I mean I knew he had no defense besides his height and length...Toney knows how to shoulder roll, slide and slip punches... Nunn had no idea how to avoid getting hit eventually one of those punches was going to turn the Light Out, Nunn took a lot though..

  • There is no way that JT is one dementional, in fact, he is a very skilled boxer/puncher...however, Mike Nunn was also a master of the slip-n-slide movement as a BOXER, NOT AS A SLUGGER/PUNCHER...he didn't LISTEN to Dundee when he was told not to reach 4 JT...Nunn stop fighting his fight & he got TKO'd...He took one powerhouse shot 2 many...

  • Nunn got KTFO.
