well why do they call them tricks? a trick is when someone can find the card you arndomly picked from a whole deck of cards or stuff like that. getting a dog to roll over isn't really a trick. it's just a power trip where you m ake an animal do silly things for your amusement, usually with the promise of giving them a treat afterwards.

@topperheartramada A "Trick" can mean a special skill too. Obviously, you don't go to school because you would know how to spell or write a complete sentence. That would be a good "Trick" for you. If you learn how to read and write, I will give you a dog treat.

my husband and i have been thinking about geting a dog for months now cause we cant settle for one breed. We have to young children and we wouldnt want to geopordize their safety. We heard that boston terriers are very good with kids. looking at this one makes me want to run to the pet shop and get one. its all i needed to make up my mind. ill have to talk with my man tonight i guess!!!:)

Boston Terriers are great with kids. I would not recommend buying a dog from a pet store or on craigslist. They are dogs from puppy mills and are just out to make money without any worries about the dog's health. I would find a reputable breeder near you and ask them where you should buy from. I found a breeder by asking someone from the Boston Terrier Club of America. One of the reasons for buying from a reputable breeder is that they try to breed OUT health problems. Do your research.

@lilmommysteff NEVER BUY FROM A PET STORE!!! Not only are they bread in cruel puppy mills, 2/3rds of the time they are sick and have genetic problems.. I have bought three in my lifetime from a pet store.. All three were returned because one was so severely sick with kennel cough.. The vet recommend I do so.. The other two had severe genetic defaults that required specialists to fix with surgery in which I could not afford.. It about killed me!

Love Rex! With our BT we found that it helps the overall farting if you don'g feed them chicken. Also because of allergies, we cut out beef, pork, chicken and wheat.

What a cutie! Crashing is right...mine farts all the time! He clears out rooms on a regular basis! But he is sweet, smart, affectionate and requires very little grooming with the exception of cleaning those big ole' ears! Check out a vid of my Boston getting a bath from the cat!!!

My Male Boston will be 4 this year, and he's sharp as a tack! I would recommend this breed to anyone. They are very smart Dogs. They all have those big brown eyes!

Gregd8888 - They do not shed, rarely have a doggy odor and are not barkers. Some fart quite a bit. My girlfriend had 2, one did and one did not,same diet.Some snore.

They love people and want to please,very smart and lots of personality,excellent companions. Ours love to hike and are like little Jeeps scrambling up rocks.

As you see from the video, if you have enough treats you could teach them calculus.

I have a couple questions about this breed -

Do they smell bad?

I assume when you asked if they smell bad that you were referring to their general scent. They do not smell bad in that sense but........I mean BUTT, any Boston Terrier owner will tell you funny storys about their dogs farting a lot. Boston Terriers do drop their share of bombs. As far as shedding goes, it is very very little.

They are very smart dogs. Just be consistent and patient. When training, just do a little at a time. They can get bored quick too.

Well, I adopted Rex when he was 8 weeks old. He needed to go outside every 3 hours or so. It took probably about a month and a half to be fully potty trained. I did teach him to ring a bell with his paw when he wants out. All you have to do is mount a bell next to the door. Then, every time you go outside, make the dog ring the bell with it's paw. At first you have to help. But after about a month they will catch on and do it all by themselves. It's pretty cool.

Same breed, different size class. I had a Boston that was 11 lbs full grown and the one I have now is 26 lbs. I believe there are three size classes. The heaviest being 30lbs.

I do have pictures of him as a puppy but they are in my photo album. I adopted him before I bought a digital camera. Rex has a.d.d. with my girlfriend but he listens to me. It took quite a while to get him to sneeze. It is kind of a wierd family tradition to teach our dogs to sneeze. Be patient.

Of course she can. Rex just turned 5 years old. You just need to learn how to teach your dog though. Just teach a little at a time otherwise your dog will get bored or frustrated.
