Meh, as a ref, I can say it gets pretty frustrating when the player has a full area of ice to shoot at, but somehow manages to hit you. The thing on the boards wasn't really avoidable, that's happened to me too; but usually I keep my arms out. One time I accidentally clothes-lined some poor guy, but better me than him--I got only a few pads.

The ref isn't at fault at all, That is the usual place for refs to be the entire game. I've had a player who was a total moron that yelled to me "get out of the way" when he collided with me. I made sure that retard understood. This isn't some sport where the refs can chill out of play, we have to be on the ice and we usually stand on the same spot so players KNOW. The ref isn't at fault here, and the player is a moron.

On the other hand, it would have been very difficult for the official to avoid the player as well. If he jumped, he would've still been hit by the player, who was skating close to the boards. If he moved out toward center ice, he would've been hit by the Islanders player trying to play the puck.

If you got hit by a player not looking and just shooting the puck, would you not be pissed off too? And swearing is just natural in hockey - it's just unfortunate the microphones picked this up.
