OMG this is overwhelming.. so many memories.. I used to live just a few blocks away from Yankee Stadium and was able to attend to so many games. It used to be Macombs Dam Park, where many latinos used to play soccer and joggers run around a track. Now it's where the world champions galantly play their baseball. Across 161 st St, the old place is getting ripped apart..a piece of baseball history is also being ripped apart from my heart but life goes on... Let's go Yankees!!!!

Yankee Stadium was destroyed in the Fall of '73. Steinbrenner just decided to bury it it in '09. Thanks George ! The damn pillars weren't so bad anyway. Well worth it for the thrill. At least Fenway and Wrigley live on. Neither is half the ballpark that the Stadium used to be.

The original plans were not to demolish the old 1 but keep it as a museum and also to have a new stadium that would have all the great modern amenities that the old 1 lacked. they could not keep the old stadium due to the fact that they took park land from the city to build the new 1, it makes me very sad to see the demolition of the greatest stadium ever built

The old stadium held more than 56,000 seats and was sold out every game constantly breaking attendance records. If there was one place in the U.S.A. that should have been preserved til the end of time it was the "cathedral of sports" Not Fenway/Wrigley or even the Whitehouse held as much history/memories as this place. Ruth Gehrig Dimaggio....the decision to bring this place down and build a new stadium was a slap in the face to all sports fans (especially yankees fans all around the world) The Steinbrenners down give a fuck about Ruth or Gehrig -about tradition or history.
